Fuel sensor says car is on empty but will never fill up past 1/2 tank. Alternator is out now & bad vibration when driving between 60-70mph so could possibly be u joint considering everything else has been done that would correct a vibration.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that during routine maintenance with an independent mechanic, it was discovered that the the fuel tank was leaking due to a failed seal. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 06v054000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 211,000. Djr.
In March 2013, a Nissan dealership replaced the fuel sensors and a related amplifier because the "service engine soon" went on and the diagnostic codes specified a fuel sensor problem (I paid between $1000-1500). About a year later, the fuel sensor light went on again, the fuel gauge intermittently shows empty even when the tank is more than one-half full, and the "miles to empty" gauge periodically goes to zero and then rebounds to the substantial number of miles left. The Nissan dealer states that the diagnostic code shows a problem in a "past cycle" and they do not have an onboard diagnostic tool. I'm unsure what's going to happen next -- but it sounds to me like there should have been a recall (other Nissan models had recalls because of fuel sensor problems).
Strange rust around ring of gas tank. The rust is in the area where you put gas into. Nissan does not cover this under the 5 year rust warranty!.
