1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

The vehicle has only 55k miles , but the front subframe bushings and front lower control arm bushings are worn out causing safety issues.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

Car began shaking on acceleration and low speeds and wouldn't stop shaking until approx 40mph or above. Upon braking to take a right hand turn car died, just stopped accelerating even though all lights on and running. No response at all when pushing pedal to the floor. Would go in reverse but only very low speed. Replaced alternator. Seemed ok but 4 months later same exact problem happened and car is not drivable again.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2023

The cvt unit shutters, lurches, and slips out of gear ratios when acceleration. There is violent jerking when pondering at low speeds and it even causes the engine to stall when coming to a halt in drive mode. Nissan knows the problem and others have served Nissan with a class action lawsuit to remediate the issue with the cvt unit. The check engine warning light illuminates when the issue arises. Nissan has not submitted a recall request.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

The sunshade has dropped down into the car. There was no warning and appears to be a common problem with Nissan. There was a recall for this same issue on a different model. It was looked at at the dealership and the repair is outrageous and a common problem with the Murano.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2023

Sunroof exploded while driving down the highway. There was a loud explosion sound. Nothing struck the vehicle. I wasn't sure what had caused the sound, but when I pulled off the road, I noticed that sunroof was shattered and had exploded.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

My wife was driving the vehicle down the highway with no one around when the sunroof spontaneously exploded without warning. She immediately took the vehicle to the dealership and took photos. You can clearly see that the sunroof glass exploded up and outward - not indicative of an object hitting the sunroof causing it to explode. My one year old son was also in the vehicle at the time it exploded. Luckily, the shade was closed because he had taken a nap earlier that day. However, if the shaded wasn't closed, my wife and son would have been covered in glass. Also, the explosion was so loud and startling, she nearly wrecked. We took the vehicle to the same dealership we bought it and purchased the extended warranty from but they are still refusing to pay for it.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

My transmission is on recall the cvt transmission is malfunctioning the transmission flutters and shudders loses power in slow motion when starting to pull off from lights or going up heels, there’s a slipping, feel to the transmission very unsafe to drive during wet, rainy days and snowy days some days absolute power loss this has been a problem since I purchased a vehicle in 2021 until current and it’s getting worse every day I was told about a Nissan dealership this is just how the transmission shift. I know this information is incorrect because it’s very unsafe to drive.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

After having the anti lock brake recall remedied I noticed a warning light came on as I was driving home that had never occurred before. It was the aeb (automatic emergency braking) light. I was driving straight on a highway and there were no cars or other impediments ahead of me. There was no reason for the light to illuminate. I called the dealership as soon as I got home. They told me I needed to bring the car back in again. I did. They did a diagnostic test and told me the aeb sensor was defective. Because I had purchased the gold warranty when I bought the car new 5 years ago, I would only have to pay the deductible and not the full price for the replacement which would normally run approximately $1000. 00. I made the appointment. After the sensor was replaced, and on my way home the same aeb light came on. Again, I was driving on straight with no car or other impediment in front of me. I was on a highway. I called the dealership as soon as I got home. I now have another appointment for the same problem. I decided to research the problem. I found out that many Nissan vehicles are having similar problems and you have been notified of this. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall. As you know, if the aeb isn't working neither is your cruise control which I use for long distance driving. Scaringly I heard of some who's car stopped as they were driving on an expressway. I drive expressways for work and to see my children. I would be dead if I had that problem on the busy expressways I travel. This problem is serious and should be addressed. I urge you to contact Nissan to have a recall. I'm not sure if this next appointment will rectify the problem or not. I'm very upset that I've spent at least 12 hours at the dealership dealing with the recall and now this issue. I would like you to follow up with me regarding this complaint.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2020

This is the 2nd time that the tailgate lift will not lift and I cant reset it and if you googled this numerous people have the same issue over and over again.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2020

The forward collision avoidance light frequently comes on when I start my car. Sometimes restarting the car will make it go off. When the light is on, all my cameras, cruise control & side sensor lights do not function. My biggest fear is that the car will stop itself in traffic. I am afraid to drive this car. I took it to my dealership. They put in a new sensor ($1300). The light was back on the next day. Another sensor was put in. After a month, the light is back on. The car goes back to the dealer tomorrow.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

We had our 2015 Nissan Murano at a certified Nissan dealership for service because of a safety factory recall ordered by Nissan. The recall was for replacement of an abs accelerator. The Nissan certified tech indicated to me, when loosening the strut bolts to get to the abs accelerator they snapped and now the struts would have to be replaced at a cost to me of $700. I now have an unsafe vehicle with defective strut bolts and an abs accelerator that needs replaced unless I come up with $700. The strut bolts possibly would of never been an issue if Nissan hadn't a recall for their unsafe abs accelerator. I contacted Nissan customer service and the could not offer any assistance with my issue.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2020

While driving, my panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded. When the glass broke, it broke outward as it was lifted when I saw it when I got to my destination.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

The collision light goes on intermittently while in motion on city and highways and causes the cruise control not to work unless the car is turned off and resets itself.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

The vehicle was in motion driving about 45 miles an hour (no rain, no snow on the car), when the sunroof spontaneously exploded. The car was going straight forward with no bumps in the road. No rocks hit the car and there was no collision. It was about 1:30pm in December in michigan, there were no other cars around, no rocks. The sunroof exploded on I's own - due to faulty equipment. The car had about 21,000 miles and has never been in an accident. We purchased it certified, pre owned from a Nissan dealership 8 months prior. Nissan has refused to take any responsibility for the issue.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

Two weeks ago I was backing out of my garage as always and hit my other vehicle. The backup sensor didn't sound. I now have a dent. It happened again last week away from home but luckily I had someone directing me and I was right on the car and no sensor went off. My vehicle is a 2015 Nissan Murano. I feel that I should be a part of recall. I purchased it in March 2019 and purchased extended warranty.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2019

The backup camera did not function properly. Backing up the indicator did not show or sound a warning. This occurred when I was backing up on a street and hit a car. It also does not sound regularly when I'm backing up in all situations.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

My Nissan Murano has an automatic emergency braking (aeb) safety feature. About a week ago, I was pulling out of the garage at work. A car in the lane to my right and a little ahead of me, but not in front of me. I slowed as I approached a speed bump. Speed at this time was less than 10mph - about 5 mph. Once slowed, to get over the speed bump, I needed to press on the gas. The aeb system beeped quickly and loudly. The aeb symbol flashed on my dashboard. Then, suddenly and abruptly, the car stop. The aeb system stopped the car. As it did, I looked up. The other car in the lane next to me had managed to go over the speed bumps well before me and was never coming into my lane. The only other thing near me was the speed bump sign that straddled the median to the left. But again, it was not in my lane. I was not in any danger of hitting anything. Thankfully, the car behind me was about 20 feet away or it would have rear-ended me. I was scared and confused, but had to keep going to not block the exit lanes. After that incident, I noticed that the aeb light on my dash would flash, sometimes briefly, again, when I was not in any danger. In one instances, I pulled into a lane as I exited a gas station behind a car waiting at a red light. There was a car in front of me so I approached slowly to get in line at the light. The light turned green. And as I pressed the gas to begin to accelerate, the aeb light flashed. This time, the cars behind me were closer and starting to pick up speed. The car did not stop, thankfully. But these situations continued and occurred at least once a day. I called the dealer to ask about recalls. The service tech did not acknowledge any recalls and offered to test it for $145. This is a safety issue caused by Nissan. We paid extra for this feature and now I can't trust it and worry it is faulty.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2019

Sluggish acceleration and shuddering at speeds below 35 mph. I am not sure what is causing it but it almost acts like it could die. I release my foot from the gas pedal and then push it again to get the hesitation to stop and continue driving. This has happened more than 4 times since I bought the vehicle in April 2019.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2019

My barely 3 year old vehicle recently began displaying a warning that the anti collusion system was not functional and I noticed this also disabled and disengaged the cruise control resulting in sudden deceleration . This problem seems to reset when car is started and reoccurs after 15 or 20 minutes driving . I took the car to a Nissan dealership service dept both reps at the desk told me the problem was a recall on the less expensive more common rogue model but not on the Murano which used the very same components and also told me it was very expensive to fix . I searched on line and on numerous sites found it was a very common serious defect with a bosch supplied sensor on the radar . Why are they fixing one model but not the same defect on the Murano . This is a driving safety feature I considered essential to my purchase and when suddenly fails disengaging cruise control presents a very dangerous situation . The manufacturer is well aware of the issue and insists I pay to diagnosis and at this point pay a very large repair bill to repair ,,,,unacceptable !.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Anti collision light falsely illuminates often, indicating impending collision. Nissan has many reports of this problem, but needs to recall. Wife is afraid to drive the vehicle. This mainly city driving. Dealer (lamb Nissan, prescott, az) says it will cost $1600 to replace forward radar sensor. Only 36782 mileage. It is possible the car will slam to a stop for no reason, as has happened to others.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

The Murano has approximately 35,000 miles on it. It was driving fine without any strange noises. It suddenly lost power and would not go faster than 2 mph. Luckily it was on a dead end road and there was traffic around or it would have been hit and the driver would have been severely injuries if not killed. There was absolutely no warning and no lights on the dashboard. It is going to cost $800 to fix as it has been diagnosed as the alternator. The vehicle had to be towed.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

On the morning of November 7, 2017, the front/sliding portion of the sunroof on my 2015 Nissan Murano spontaneously exploded while I was driving down I-5 in seattle, wa, at the posted speed (60 mph). The sound of the explosion was deafening (I thought that a gunshot had been fired at my vehicle, and/or I had had a catastrophic tire blowout). Luckily the retractable fabric "shield" between the sunroof and the interior of the vehicle was deployed, and the shattered glass did not fall on me. I was able to pull off the freeway and prevent large chunks of glass from flying into on-coming traffic. I subsequently reported this incident to my insurance company, and the sunroof was replaced by my insurer (the cost of the replacement glass was approximately $1500; I paid a $250 deductible, and the insurance company paid the rest).

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

I was driving my certified pre-owned 2015 Nissan Murano with my 1 year old daughter in the back seat, a car that I just purchased 2 weeks ago when the front half of the panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded. I was not under an underpass, there were no cars right next to me. It sounded like a gun shot & glass came shattering down the front & back seat where my daughter was in her car seat. This was an absolutely terrifying, dangerous experience that could have ended a lot worse. I consider my daughter & I lucky that we were not injured but from what I have read, this is not an uncommon occurrence. This safety issue with exploding sunroofs needs to be resolved as this is a very dangerous issue that consumers should be aware of before buying a Nissan or any car with a sun roof.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Passenger side airbag stops detecting adult passenger, was recalled by Nissan in 2016 and system was reprogramed, it's now may 2017 and the problem has started again. Will need to contact Nissan for repairs. Also when driving there is an extreme glare from the back side of the hood which blinds and disorients when driving towards the sun, nearly wreaked car because I could not see for a few seconds. This happens all year when sun shines.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

This car caught fire while parked in the garage with the key out, burning down the house of david and amy barzoff at 1509 saratoga blvd. , indian trail. I am subrogation counsel to their insurer, erie insurance company. We have set a date of October 27, 2016 to conduct a scene inspection and invite NHTSA to send someone to attend. The date may change, so please have someone contact me to keep in touch.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

Nissan campaign : pc482 on 9/92016 took vehicle in to have abs actuator checked. It was within range for recall. Part was ordered. Week of 9/192016, received call from dealer central appointments (sheehy Nissan waldorf) telling me part was in and was given appt on 9/23/2016 to have abs actuator replaced. On 9/23, at dealership, I was told Nissan is not replacing abs actuator as called for in campaign unless it has leaked and abs light is on. This is a part non-conformance issue. When seal allows leak, it drips on circuit board which will cause a fire. Remedy is to park vehicle, call for tow and get rental. This is unsafe and remains so. Nissan recall states "your Nissan dealer will inspect the serial number of the abs actuator, and if it is within the affected range, the dealer will replace the abs actuator with a new abs actuator at no cost. " my actuator is within affected range and Nissan is not complying with their own recall remedy.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

Nhtsa recall 16v-244, the occupant classification system software, notified 6/16, dealer attempted to correct the problem in June, July, sept. , oct. , Nov. , and advised me in Dec. That there was no "fix", at that time I was turned over to Nissan consumer affairs, case#24846736, in late Dec. I was advised that Nissan would decide to either buy the car back or replace it in 10 days; that period has passed and they are blaming the dealer for not sending work orders, but I verified they were sent twice and Nissan misplaced them. The car is unsafe to drive with a passenger and I feel that I am just getting the "run-a-round". I have photos but don't know how to attach them.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2016

The door locks for this vehicle are unreliable. I have had to replace all 4 on this vehicle and many other locks on my previous 2 Murano vehicles. They will not lock/unlock reliably. Sometimes they will not unlock when exiting the vehicle. They cannot be counted on in an emergency to unlock.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

The brake and gas peddle are far too close together causing the foot to have a problem transferring form the gas to brake. This has caused me to almost have several accidents. This is very dangerous. This has happened several times in city driving and a few times on highway.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2015

When on a test drive with the new 2015 Murano on the highway, I encountered a semi infront of me and to the right of me; a typical everyday occurance with my 80 mile drive to/from work. This is the point that scared me-- it felt as if the Murano was being lifted off the ground and the whole vehicle was floating back and forth, the sales person stated I just caught some draft from the semi's. I stated everyday to/from work 80 miles in a small 4 door car and also a fullsize crewcab truck, the vehicle varies on days. I have never encountered this feeling in 32 years of driving and was very nervous about the situation I was glad the road wasn't wet or icy making me wonder if I would have spun out. I really wanted this new Murano but now I am back to square one on the vehicle search. I am not sure if it has to do with the new frontend or lighter design or not. I wanted to inform someone else about this situation so it can be looked into. The dealership said it was nothing and tried talking me into taking it then and there. Of course it turned into I have other cars to test now and as I was walking away I just heard hysterical laughing. Good customer service for a serious customer. I am so happy I did a test drive on the highway first. "this is a dangerous situation and needs to be looked into before someone gets killed. ".

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

Poor hood design near the wipers, the inclination of the hood near the wipers reflects the sunlight directly on to the driver eyes and the intensity is so high that it obstructs vision and could lead to fatal front collision and the driver may not asses the distance of breaking before the impact in emergency situations. The first occurrence happened to me while driving between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm and the most recent occurrence was when driving on i76 turnpike philly to pittsburgh west bound around 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm the sunlight reflection was causing me discomfort in my vision. This can be avoided by adjusting the seat height all the way to the lowest level and I being 6 ft tall was not a problem in driving at this seat positik . Every driver has a comfort zone of seat level and unfortunately my seating position falls where the reflection causes a serious problem. Nissan has to find a workaround on this issue and has to consider it very seriously and take immediate action.
