1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

The brake fluid continues to leak the cvt affected therefore the car only drives backwards. It has under 70,000 miles. It completely stopped while driving in the middle of traffic. I had to have it towed. There was no notice of this issue prior to this incident.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

Rear lift-gate failed to latch. Paid for assessment and repair in August 2024. I was told it could occur again that there is hatch issue with this vehicle. Eight months later, the rear lift-gate failed to latch again. I took it back to the dealership. While driving, it is unsafe as the warning lights are flashing on the dash and an alarm is screeching for the entirety of the trip. You cannot safely drive a vehicle when the door will not latch. After inspection of the vehicle, they advised to repair the lock assembly($770) though $180 was paid at first assessment . I was told this may not be the final solution to the problem. This time there was no discussion of the hatch issue with this vehicle. Hmmm, there is an online forum for other Nissan owners with the same problem. I never received any warning lamps prior to the issue. The rear lift hatch was working until it wasn't. Thank goodness I was not on a road trip (I have two adult children who live out of state). It is unnerving and unsafe to drive while all of the warning lights and sounds are on all while your rear door is unable to latch. In my opinion, this is a safety issue. There have been two class action suits on the 2017 Murano. One for foggy headlamps and one for the cvt transmission. I did not join the suits. At the time I was contacted, my headlamps were not foggy, now they are. Knock on wood, I have no issues with my transmission. I can drive safely with foggy headlamps. I can not drive safely when my rear door will not latch. There are 3 buttons for this feature (the dash, the rear door, and the glove box). The button in the glove box allows you to turn off the auto lift feature. Even when you turn it off, the door will not latch. In my opinion, there is a faulty design. This should be a recall, not a repair. I am long past the days of soccer and basketball tournaments where a rear door gets a workout. It's just me. Having a door close and latch seems fundamental to the safety of a vehicle.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2023

Is the pearl white paint peeling off the car all over I cannot drive it in the rain. The paint falls off. I cannot wash it but paint peels off the car only has 42,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new it started in July I have went to several dealerships and consumer affairs, and no one seems to help me. It is all over the internet. This is not due to any warranty. This is a product before it was built. The paint is no good the car is worthless the way it looks I’ve taken very good care of this car. It’s been stored in a garage. I’m the one drives it. There’s nothing else wrong with the car except the paint is coming off when I go down the highway.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2023

Car is a safety hazard from October 2022 to current. I have had this car at the beau townsend Nissan dealership service center, vandalia, OH multiple times, about the safety issue of the car slowing down with floor acceleration then shutting off on 4 lane highways just barely escaping severe accidents. Each time dealership isn’t able to fix issue, had me spend $800 to fix what they thought it was, reset codes which has not fixed the safety issue. Latest issue occurred 4/27/23 traveling on 3 lane highway in middle lane 3 hours from my home at 70 mph speed limit. Car abruptly started slowing down without cause, and almost created a bad accident. Luckily, I was able to get the car to the right narrow shoulder strip before it shut off, police came to assist with keeping me safe in my vehicle until I could have the vehicle towed 3 hours back to beau townsend Nissan for more diagnostics. I opened a case with Nissan consumer affairs prior to this last safety incident and to date nothing has been done. I have multiple documentation with the dealership about my car being a safety risks to me (senior citizen) and others on the road. The only people to date that seem to understand the safety severity this involves are the highway police and towing services who have provided me safety every time the car shuts down abruptly while traveling. I’m reaching out to you in hope that this concern can be addressed before you learn about me and possibly others in a fatality situation. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this matter. Yes, I’m available for inspection of the safety concern specific to my vehicle.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2023

The sunroof/moonroof drain tubes stop up and leak down the interior door frame and also into the floorboard of the car regularly. I have been in contact with Nissan regional and they tell me its a maintenance problem. I read through the owners manual multiple times and nowhere does it mention sunroof drain tubes or anything related to sunroof drains. It does not mention it in the maintenance portion of the book or anywhere else. The issue with it leaking into the car is mold. This is a design flaw by Nissan, and unless a Nissan dealership submits it to Nissanusa as a design flaw, nothing can be done. Obviously a dealership will not submit it because they can make $159 each time a customer comes in to have those lines unclogged. Never buy a Nissan with a sunroof!!!!!! mine has leaked into my car four times since 2021. It has flooded and molded my entire interior.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2022

Sunroof shattered while driving today, I read that many Nissan Muranos have had the same problems. The sunroof looks like it shattered from the inside out.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

A friend brought this to my attention July 2, 2020. Vehicle's catching fire, going up in flames, terrified to drive my car. I sent this message to Nissan via email, all social media and direct messaging and was told someone would contact me but I have not heard from anyone. I was given a case number I have since move my car parked in front of the house phone on the street because we do have oxygen in the house for my mother whose on hospice and I'm on disability. See attachment image of response from Nissanusa via messenger on facebook. I haven't received anything regarding this recall and my car is parked in the garage. VIN 5n1az2mg0hn176229 this is terrifying, my daughter's room is on that side of the house and I have an 86 y. O. Mother with dementia and my own medical issues. I chose this car for the leg room and to transport my mom. It was purchased from central autohaus, richardson, texas. Please click on the link and read it. . Read more...

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2020

The forward emergency braking system light will randomly come on both when the cruise control is on or not in use. If the cruise is on, the car will automatically slow. The Feb light then disables the cruise control. Vehicle is in motion at any speed.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2020

I purchased this used vehicle on 4/4/20 and during a test drive the unavailable front radar obstruction came on and they stated it was because we were close to other cars. The sensor kept going off with nothing around while driving so took it to local nissian dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad sensor which is about $1400 to repair. Asked nissian to pay as a goodwill gesture and they denied it. I purchased an extended warranty which will not cover it. As explained to the selling dealership and nissian corporate this is a safety hazard and I should not be held responsible for repairing the sensor. Whenever the car is in motion the sensor goes off. . About 8-10 during a 12 mile trip. I need help with this sensor. The selling dealership knew this was faulty and so does nissian and no one will help. This is placing my life and other drivers at risk. Please help. . . .

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

The abs light, crash sensor light and traction control light will come on intermittently while the car is on. The three lights will come on at the same time, and will remain on until the vehicle is turned off. The lights do not come on each time the car is started, and when they do come on, it is not only at the time of start up. They usually come on at least once a day. They have come on when the vehicle is stopped, starting up from a red light, while driving (various speeds), etc. There is no rhyme or reason as to when the lights come on. When the lights are on, nothing else is going on with the car--only normal usage--no weird sounds, feelings, etc. The car has been at the dealership for the past 2 months. Per the dealership, the abs sensors, the speed control sensors and the actuator have all been replaced, but the lights still present themselves. Nissan technicians have advised that they will need to bring a Nissan engineer to help them with the issue. The car is not even 2 years old and has 19k miles on it. This is not an issue that I should be dealing with and it needs to be corrected permanently so it is not a recurring issue.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

While driving with the cruise control engaged on my 2017 Nissan Murano, a message appears on dash: unavailable front radar obstruction. The cruise control disengages at that point, requiring the driver to use the accelerator. At that point, I think the automatic braking is also disabled. The car currently has about 38000 miles on it and is 2 years old. The frequency of the problem has increased over time. I checked to make sure the sensor at the front bumper is clean. This error will happen on days with no rain or snow. At first, it errored when exiting a tunnel, but now it occurs randomly (but so far only when using cruise control). Since it is over the 36000 mile warranty, Nissan requires a diagnosis from the dealer. This is a safety problem that should have a recall. I also recently rented a 2018 Nissan altima while on vacation, and it was really bad. It errored about every 5 minutes, even without cruise control. Nissan has a recall for the rogue model. According to information on the internet, the problem is a sensor manufactured by bosch.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

Driving on the road when loud shotgun blast sound above resulting from the sunroof exploding. No traffic in front to say a rock hit it nor anything above like an overpass to drop something from.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Radar collision detection issues. Ever since I bought this car in 2017, we've been receiving periodic warnings "front radar unavailable due to obstruction" and it seems like the issue is getting worse. On a 2 hour drive on the interstate this past weekend, we would see the message over 10 times and this causes the cruise control to stop. This seems to most often occur if there is a vehicle in front of us that changes lanes. This issue also occurs driving around town, it's not only on the highway. This is really impacting our safety because the warning message scares whoever is driving that something is wrong. I have told Nissan of this issue as early as summer 2019 and they made adjustments, but it isn't fixed. They are not willing to cover this under warranty. Please help. I don't know what to put in the 'when did this happen' field because this has been an ongoing issue.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

I purchased a new 2017 Nissan Murano a couple of years ago. After 6 months of ownership, while in motion on any road or highway my car will beep and show "front radar unavailable due to obstruction". It then turns off my ability to have cruise control and removes aeb and Feb features. After researching this issue, it looks like several Nissan owners have had the same issue because of a faulty radar. Nissan replaced the radar once but that radar is now bad too. The aeb, Feb, and cruise control will not work in my car. Nissan states they will not assist in replacing the radar again because they have replaced it before. This is a safety concern and needs to be addressed with a potential recall in my opinion.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2018

Panoramic sunroof shattered when driving down highway. Nothing hit car to cause glass to shatter. Per insurance adjuster this is a design flaw with the car.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2018

Key fobs and auto start doesn't always work. Murano will be parked and off and I walk up within 15 ft of the drivers side door and try to autostart and it consistently only works about 1 in 4 tries. Dealership has replaced both fobs and batteries and still not working every single time. Also, several times in the past year, I get in and place foot on brake and push button to start and it will not start, takes several attempts before the vehicle will start!!!.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

Platinum package. When car is in motion, forward collision warning system malfunction incorrectly identifies a pending collision, indicating that a collision is imminent. Once the warning occurs, both visual on the dash, and audible beep, it will not go away. It continues until the vehicle is turned off. Occurs often. Dealership attempts to repair fail. Parts departments claim replacement parts are not available. This is dangerous to timid drivers in heavy traffic. Although problem exists in light traffic as well.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

C/s forward collision warning keeps periodically coming on with no obstruction in front of vehicle. First reported June 2018, replaced failed again, curating under engineering review, at this time when it alarms all time, also curse control does not work, and side alarm off and on. When in motion, we have insurance discount for the collision warning system that is not working.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

Forward radar which controls the automatic braking system and cruise control stops working for no reason - states radar not available, obstruction, when the car is in motion. Unit has been replaced once and just starting not working again. When this happens the cruise control goes off and the car slows down quickly. This is a real safety concern for cars behind you as brake lights do not come on warning that you are slowing down.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

While sitting in traffic, going less than 10 miles per hour, on us route 60 in mesa, az, the sunroof spontaneously shattered. The weather was clear, sunny and cold (high 30's fahrenheit) and I was not under an overpass.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2017

Happens at least once a trip. The front radar, used for collision mitigation/intelligent cruise control, shuts off and reports obstruction for no apparent reason. This renders the safety systems useless.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2017

High pitch noise coming from wheel well with engine off or on. No indicator light showing issue. Opened and closed all doors did not stop. Could not determine when or why noise was occurring. After driving to dealer the high pitch whistle stopped. Dealer could not detect reason.
