The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Nv200. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, there was a sudden loss of power steering, the steering wheel was loosely detached without warning and the vehicle veered to the right. The contact was not able to straighten the steering wheel and crashed into a ditch and a field. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The failure damaged the undercarriage of the vehicle and the license plate. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and the steering column was re-attached. The dealer refused to perform an alignment. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v603000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was waiting for a response from them to further address the power steering failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,389.
