Suspension Noise problems of the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

Two problems related to suspension noise have been reported for the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Suspension Noise problem

Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact received NHTSA campaign number: 11v244000(steering , suspension) however, the parts to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the contact observed an loud abnormal sound from the driver side and the steering wheel failed without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 229,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

2 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

The contact owns a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact was driving 10 mph when he heard a loud popping noise and the steering wheel began to exhibit grinding noises. The vehicle was inspected by the driver and he noticed that the strut tower was separated from the front suspension. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 154,000.
