general problems of the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

Seven problems related to suspension have been reported for the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

I had the Pathfinder tested for the rusted strut mount and corrosion issue in 2011. Now it is more than three years since I had the recall performed but I have no way of knowing if the Pathfinder three and a half years later is now safe to drive. What is the NHTSA policy on rust-related issues when an owner would like to keep their vehicle but with increased driving time on salty roads, they no longer have access to the recall that was designed to ensure safety? I am at the point where I have to make a substantial investment in major maintanence on the vehicle yet I do not know if the vehicle would pass the recall that it was tested for some 40 miles ago and, more importantly, three very hard winters on salty streets.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2012

The contact owns a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the strut housing cracked and detached away from the frame. The contact then found the recall associated with NHTSA recall campaign id number 11v224000 (suspension: front) and was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included. The failure and current mileages were 130,000.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2011

The contact owns a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 11v244000 (suspension:front) when he was informed that there was a hole near the strut mount on the frame assembly and could possibly cause the vehicle to collapse. The dealer did not offer any assistance since this failure was not included in the previous recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current and the failure mileages were 132,298.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

This is for Nissan Pathfinder voluntary safety recall campaign 1996-2004 Pathfinder in salt states left front strut housing corrosion campaign id # r1107 NHTSA # 11v-224. I dropped in Pathfinder in the dealership at the end of sept. 2011. The dealership told me that the car was unrepairable and leased a car to me. I have not got any information until March 27, 2012. Dealership called me said that car was fixed. Dealer told me that they did not think it was repairable, but Nissan wanted them to repair. Based on NHTSA safe recall compendium (a guide for the reporting, notification, and remedy of motor vehicle and motor vehicle equipment in accordance with title 49 of the united states code, chapter 301 and supporting federal regulations) prepared by the recall management division office of defects investigation national highway traffic safety administration u. S. Department of transportation, under ii recall remedy (page 10) that if the repair period exceed 60 days, manufacturer needs to replace the item with an identical or reasonably equivalent item or for a vehicle, refund its purchase price less a reasonable amount for depreciation. But now Nissan does not follow this rule and asked me to take the car back. I don't know which department will take care that Nissan is against the NHTSA rule?.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2004

Front wheel shimmy at speeds exceeding 50 mph. Vibration caused me to purchase 4 new tires for the front and rear of the vehicle.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2003

My "service engine soon" light came on after I filled it up with gas. Was told it was an oxygen sensor problem and then the code was cleared. Light came on again and it can't be seen at dealer for another week. A few months ago I had to get the transmission replaced and the rear and front shocks replaced and the car is only 3 years old. The company says that that happens sometimes.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/20/1999

Was having vibrations in the steering column while driving 45mph. Even when vehicle was idling it would vibrate. Could feel it through the seats & see it shaking inside. Had the wheels replaced & the suspension tightened, but problem still exists.
