2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

There is an excessive amount of rust on the vehicle including the wheel well, door jams, floor board, and frame. I was almost unable to receive a replacement windshield because the frame is rusting out. I purchased the vehicle in the north then moved south and the problem has grown worse. The compartment that is holding the spare tire under the vehicle is rusting out as well. This could potentially become a safety problem if the spare tire separates from its supports while operating on a roadway. Rust has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle with no specific start date nor end date.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2017

This vehicle was sold to me by an individual and it has so many problems it's unbelievable. Haven't been able to get it to pass emissions. Had the death wobble when I first got it. I'm extremely upset about this lemon I was. Sold. I'm a breast cancer patient and limited on income and I was really screwed over. Lost over 3000 dollars over this vehicle.

The 01 thru 04 Pathfinder has some kind of rear suspension flaw. The online forums call it a death sway and I agree. It is beyond me why this has not been recalled as of yet. If you have sometime I would love to take you on a ride because I know that something would get done after riding with this problem. Thanks.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

I just bought the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder 1 week prior from a private seller. While driving at 30 mph I hit a very large pot hole, common in mn. I heard a extra loud bang come from the front driver side wheel and pulled over instantly, upon exiting the vehicle I noticed the tire and wheel well were almost in contact with each other I couldn't see what had broke, being that it was a pitch black night. So I decided to drive the rest of the way home. The next morning I woke up and ran directly to mechanic who looked at the vehicle and told me I needed new struts shocks and cv axles I agreed with his bid and he began work on the front passenger shocks, struts, cv axle. Next he does the driver side and notices that strut is not staying in place, finishes the job calls me and says the job is complete but he needs to talk, I get to the mechanics and he hands me a bill for $830 and shows me that the strut housing on drivers side had completely rusted away. I have parked the vehicle and need to find out if this is covered by the recall.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

While driving, especially at high speeds (40-65 mph), if road is bumpy, or uneven, the truck begins to wobble from side to side. You have to immediately let off of the gas to get it under control. It's getting worse, and feels unsafe to continue to drive, unless I slow down and get the wobble under control.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Rear end sways uncontrollably wobble. Wobble happens after 50 mph while accelerating around corner and or on freeway. Extremely dangerous and scary . . .

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2013

Traveling down the highway - hit a swoop in the road and the vehicle starting rocking back and forth like a boat in the water. It felt like it was going to roll over until I had to put on brakes going 65 miles per hour. Now can only maintain a highway speed of 50 mph in order not to experience this rocking back and forth.

16 Suspension problem

The car's rear end sways on slowing down and up on acceleration, it seems to have a loss of traction.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2011

I recently replaced the suspension on my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. I see now that the Pathfinders have been recalled in the northern states for that problem. I called Nissan and they are telling me that my car is not on the list as I did not purchase it up north. I have driven it to charlottesville, va frequently as my daughter attended school up there. I cost me approximately $700. For this repair. I was driving on the interstate for work and could not keep the car on the road as it fishtailed all over. I immediately took it to the shop and was advised my suspension had to be replaced due to rust.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

I noticed a little pull in the steering wheel when taking a turn, so I stopped in to the Nissan dealership an was advised that the shock tower has failed. This is a problem that Nissan has know about an has done nothing about it. I did contact Nissan and they said they would pay $1100. Towards the repair, which was $2100. 00, I tailed them this is a safety defect and should have been recalled. Lucky for me an other people I wasn't driving on a highway an had this fail completely. The wheel would have fallen off an have lost control of the vehicle. They know there is a problem and have decided not to take action. I have argued with Nissan, they do know there is a problem, otherwise why would they be willing to pay without lots of questions. I have had this vehicle since 2001 and have done all the oil changes, brakes, tires, it is in great shape, an this failed because of a problem in workmanship. You can find many people that own this vehicle and have had this problem, they need to do something before someone really gets hurt or killed with a shock tower failure.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2006

Strut housing and structure rusting, crack in housing and mount.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2005

I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 se. For about 8 months now I have been experiencing a problem with the handling of this truck. The car begins to shake extremely hard between 55 - 65 mph. The shaking is so bad it is sometimes difficult to keep control of the steering because the steering wheel shakes just as much. I have seen that im not the only one with this problem. I have gone to the dealer several times to get this problem resolved. They told me it could have been the alignment or the balancing of the wheels and I payed to get that done to no avail. The problem persists even with new wheels and tires. I dont know what it is but it should be looked into before something terrible happens to somebody because of this problem.
