Car shuts off in the middle of driving & also when simply parked. It starts jerking like it’s trying to catch up then it kills. It’s happened in front of traffic and busy roadways/intersections. It has happened more than once.
Transmission oil cooler line in radiator broke causing coolant and transmission oil to mix and car is not driveable and needs $3,000 repairs.
Timming chain is making a bad noise.
My timing chain on my Pathfinder has been defective. It has always been noisy but a few weeks ago it really started getting loud while driving in motion around . I had to have it towed to a shop as teeth were falling off the chain into the oil. They say it is a known thing with 2005-2010 Pathfinders .
While driving on the freeway or the city street, the car started to jerk and then suddenly cut off and lose power. This has happened at least five times at normal highway and freeway speeds in a straight forward motion. While on the freeway, I was able to glide over to stop the car and restart it. The car starts right back up and is drivable. The last time was on the city street, I was going about 35-40mph and the car again jerks and the engine cuts off and looses power. However, this time the steering wheel locked up preventing me to get over. I had to stop the car by breaking directly in the lane nearly causing cars to slam into me. Again, once I come to a complete stop and put the car in park I am able to start the engine and drive again. After this first happened, I took my car in for a tune-up, oil change, and a diagnostic test but nothing read as an error. I do not drive far distances just mainly around town and have received regular maintenance on my vehicle. I am now afraid to drive my car because the lose of power does not happen consistently but is very dangerous when it does and can definitely cause an accident/injury/death if someone is driving too close. I looked up recalls and found recall10v517000. It says there was a recall for 2004-2006 Nissan Pathfinders but my VIN # is not excepted. Please look into this for this matter because I do not feel safe for myself and others while driving.
Timing chain is messing up which its clear that all Nissan Pathfinders made from 2004-2010 have that problem as well as the automatic windows not working going up or down when using automatic as well as passenger airbag light going off randomly. Oh if it helps I worked at Nissan north America manufacturing and I can't even begin to tell you how managers would send defected parts to the line for assembly because they would always say "quantity over quality". Its a shame and I hope that this will help push to hold Nissan responsible to fix what they already knew was bad.
I have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder with 91,450 miles. I notice a slight slip in the transmission on the way to work. I work at a auto repair shop. They took it for a test drive and found nothing. Approximately two weeks later, it really started to slip to the point I had to pull over, because it was not shifting correctly. When it was brought in to the shop again it did nothing. I called the local Nissan dealer in stroudsburg PA and was told there was a "silent recall" and to check the fluid if it was a milky color, pretty much I was going to be without a car. I always took care of my car and for this to happen was a real blow. The dealership told me pretty much the repair exceeds the value of the vehicle. I did check the value of my car was approximately $6-7000 for the shape that it was in. That's a lot of money to lose on a vehicle. Also, the hazard of not shifting properly could have caused an accident, I had to pull off the side of the highway until I could get it to shift and this kept repeating it self over and over. Nissan had a class action settlement, which when I called Nissan directly they said it did not include my VIN number. I believe Nissan knew this was a defect and only if you complained about it did you get attention from the company. I had an address change so I do not know if I received any information on this type of issue. I was the only owner of this vehicle and believed that Nissan should make good for the repairs it will cost.
Car shakes violently when accelerating and jerks. Have been told I probably have a crack in raidiator and fluids leaked in transmission will be thousands to fix. After looking on internet. I see many people with problem and Nissan is not covering costs.
2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle timing chain tensioning system problems. The consumer stated while driving, she heard a strange rattle and hissing noise coming from the engine area underneath the hood. The consumer had her local repair shop investigate. The technician stated without taking the motor apart, it appeared the motor was failing. The consumer started investigating the issue and discovered Pathfinder's from 2005-2015 had problems with timing chain, guides and shoes.
While driving on state hwy. Transmission total shut down. Car had to be towed. Very dangerous ! repair estimated at 4000. 00.
I am an active duty marine and have served for over 20 years. My wife and I have been the original owners of this 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. While I was away on business my wife called me and told me the car was acting up. Upon my return I test drove the car. The car would not acceleration after I came to a stop. Soon after the engine light turned on. I took the car to the auto shop to get it checked out and found out the coolant and transmission oil mixed. I took the car into Nissan and found out this is a common problem. Nissan extended the warranty to cover this problem; but I was over the mileage and they would not be cover my vehicle. We recently paid off the car; however, now I am stuck with this ticking time bomb. The car loses acceleration very frequently. I have to turn it off and turn it back on to get it back to normal. While I am driving it, I could feel the transmission disengage. It sometime feels like I am driving over a bumpy road. It may stop working anytime. I am getting ready to deploy and I am stuck with some tough decisions. Buy a replacement car, pay a lot of money to fix this car, or drive the car until it stops working. I don't want to leave my wife and son with this problem while I am gone. Please help.
Vechicle transmission stopped shifting while driving in traffic. Sounded like vehicle couldnt switch gears any longer. This is serious problem and lucky it did not result in an accident. We have kept the vehicle on the proper maintenance schedule. With so many complaints this needs to be a recall.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving 2 mph, the steering wheel seized and the traction control, check engine, and the abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
While driving transmission began shifting erratically. After stopping at a traffic light the vehicle would not accelerate above 20 mph. While attempting to get the vehicle home smoke was noticed coming from the transmission. Inspection verified transmission fluid was contaminated with coolant.
I am having a very hardtime with this vehicle. Just bought on June 2013 from used dealership. It is mixing the antifreeze with transmission fluid. I have no other vehicle. And need to get around. My family depends on a good useful vehicle. That will not break down just anywhere. And will not cost thousands to repair.
Just found out that I have the coolant mixed with the transmission fluid causing transmission failure. . . . Called Nissan consumer affairs and was told I had to go get diagnosis at dealer witch I did at a cost 100. 00. Called Nissan back and said I was out of luck and nothing they would do. . . . How can they get away with selling such a defective part for so long is beyond me and the fact that there is numerous class action law suits on this issue and nothing is being done about it. . . . . This is a major safety issue as a transmission failure will cause the vehicle to stop in traffic. . . . Someone needs to do something about this.
Upon stopping at a major intersection, car had little power. Had gas pedal completely to the floor and could only go 2 mph. Almost rear ended and barely made the traffic light. Bought my car used in march2013 was not aware their was a class action lawsuit. Now I have to pay a deductible out of pocket to have the issue fixed. I have two small children and not fearful of their safety when putting them in my car. I can't believe there hasn't been a safety issue found on this. Someone is going to be seriously hurt as people continue to find out about this problem. Very disappointed with Nissan, the dealer, and our safety department. Guess it has to take someone losing their life before something is done.
Transmission failed with no notice only 110000 miles upset and not safe! now I hve no car and Nissan wants to charge me 8,500 to fix seems so unjust I'm a widow with children and struggled to pay for my car and this shouldn't happen at just over 100 thousand miles!.
Upon startup, loud whirling sound emanates from engine. When engine is shut off, there is a "wind down" sound as if a rotating part is gradually slowing to a stop. Mechanic states it is a timing chain guide failure - advises to repair vehicle as soon as possible or not drive if you cannot afford repair. Says engine can lock up while driving if total failure occurs.
The automatic transmission stopped working. Car has to be driven in 3rd gear. Putting car in drive results in engine revving but not changing gears from 3rd to 4th gear. This will cost me close to $3000 to have the transmission rebuilt.
I was on vacation in virginia, heading back to CT when my cars ability to accelerate stopped on the highway. Luckily my husband was driving and could feel the diffrence in the car. He started changing lanes and glided the vehicle to the shoulder. My husband, our 16 year old son, his friend, and our 4 year old neice and I were in the car. We waited for triple a, were towed to a pepboys facility, (the only facility I could think would be open on a Saturday) for them to tell us that they could not assist us with the issue our vehicle was having. The tow truck towed us to a tripple a facility which was closed. We had to get lodging for the evening and pay tripple a facility approximately $100. 00 to tell us our transmission was done and it would cost us anywhere between $5000. 00 and $8000. 00 to have repaired. I then had to pay for a rental car, and a addition $1200+ dollars to have our car towed back to CT. I know have $5000 to repair my car to find out Nissan is aware of this issue. My family could have been injured loosing our transmission on the highway that day. It really bothers me that Nissan knew the possiblity of this failure. Considering I just brought my car in October of 2011.
Fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank.
Coolant in the transmission sudden lose of speed difficult to drive manage to get it home haven't ran it since afraid of losing the transmission completely did not no of this issue till it was too late I have 2 cars between me and my 3 sons and now down to one car till this issue can be resolve, can not afford to pay for the repairs out of pocket im hoping Nissan will be taking some responsibility I've own 5 Nissans a stanza, sentra, a Pathfinder, maxima, and now 06 Pathfinder im having issues with.
I am a mother of two elementary school children. I drive them to and from school each day. During these trips and other daily errands, my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder violently shakes at random throughout the drive. This causes me to be fearful of not being able to control the vehicle, especially when I am transporting my children. The steering wheel visibly shakes and the vehicle feels as of we are riding over rough terrain. Apparently this is happening with a good majority of Nissan vehicles now, and that is very frightening for them to be on the road . I feel a recall is needed to save a life.
The engine starts up but will not shift to second gear.
Engine oil cooler ruptured transmission replacement.
As has been reported by many our 2006 Pathfinder has been found to have antifreeze in the transmission and we are now told it will take 4500 dollars to fix. This is no doubt a manufactures defect as there was no way to prevent this from happening or knowing for sure when it did. This SUV has been maintained by professionals and they did not catch it, I believe Nissan knew about this based on actions they have taken and now should have to repair these vehicles.
My brand new timing chain failed, destroying my engine and costing me over $8000 in repairs in addition to the cost of the timing chain ($1100).
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the engine began to shake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.
Dear sir/madam: my husband, our three small daughters, and myself were pulling out of toys r us when the accelerator would not respond. The car jerked and choked and would not respond to the depression of the accelerator. We narrowly avoided being broadsided by a semi-truck! thank goodness my husband swerved and shifted into neutral where we coasted to a stop. It was harrowing to say the least. I immediately took it to our mechanic and explained the problem. He was unable to "reproduce" the symptoms. We have had this problem twice since then and I've contacted Nissan USA to no avail. We won't even drive the vehicle. It has been sitting in our driveway since the most recent incident. Please advise. Regards, lisa yanief.
