1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2024

My car powers off as I am driving it. The brakes work but nothing else. The dials go crazy and all the warning lights on my car turn on with all the other lights remaining off. I’m not sure what component stopped working when it shuts off but I would be okay with it being inspected. My safety was put at risk because I could no longer drive the car and the gas pedal doesn’t work so I don’t gain any speed leaving me stranded on the street having to pull over which could lead to an accident. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service dealer. The first sign I know the problem is gonna happen when driving is when I turn on the car and the emergency brake light turns on and the battery light.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2022

Three times our battery has ruptured. Two separate batteries, the second and third being a Nissan dealership battery because I thought maybe the aftermarket battery was the cause. I have purchased four batteries over the two years I have owned the Pathfinder. The first battery that came with the car I did not see the battery condition as the car was towed in after it lost power while driving up hill. They assumed alternator however concluded it was the battery. When looking at the new battery the dealership installed I noticed corrosion from the splash of battery acid all over the engine bay. It wasn’t until I was in the car when the new battery once again ruptured, separating the whole top and bottom casing. That left acid dripping in my engine bay. So battery number three I made sure was an oem Nissan battery that could handle the platnium oem options. Just months replacement the battery ruptured again. This time the dealer covered replacement. Well I brought my Pathfinder in for its 60k mile service and sure enough the battery acid has caused the area around terminals to separate and have huge amounts of corrosion. The advisor even mentioned how the battery looks brand new and shiny except for all the corrosion. They got the battery holding a charge but can’t pinpoint the issue. I can not find a lot of info on batteries rupturing like this without being attached to an external power source - like it someone is over applying voltage to the battery. That was not the case I have been actively driving when it pressurized the battery causing the rupture and spewing battery acid throughout the engine bay.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2022

Shifter will not move from park. I have to use the hidden bypass push button just above park indicator to move vehicle in & out of gear. I bought this vehicle with about 141,000 miles. I noticed the under carriage was wet at time I bought it on September 16th 2021. Very slow leak. Had mechanic test transmission fluid temp and add Nissan cvt fluid. Didnt need much. Both rear interior doors have boken handles. Cables broke free of internal handle. Transmission starting to hesitate or lose power on mostly heavy acceleration. Acceleration pause for moment. Sometimes a few times within 5-7 seconds when attempt to excelerate at full throttle when heavy acceleration. Getting worse. Happening at slower speeds. Hood shakes on highway. Needs reinforced. So far caused no accidents.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

The Pathfinder was recalled due to transmission problems. When I heard about the settlement had been settled. So I called the company directly and found out that the Pathfinder had not ever been changed from the previous owner. So no one wanted to help me. So we had taken the Pathfinder in before I knew of the recall due to transmission leaking. Had purchased extended warranty they refused to repair the transmission. So last month I had to come up with money to have a transmission put in. Because it was stuck in park and drive. No take in consideration I had contacted Nissan directly and they refused to do anything and knew this year had just settled a civil lawsuit. So I need help with being reimbursed by Nissan. There was as if, it was stuck in low gear, high pitch sound when started, hesitated when leaving a stop light, difficult time picking up speed, constantly leaking transmission liquid, high pitch noice when was put in reverse and jerking as when it was on the high way trying to shift gears. Had a particular smell at times. Even called cvt about the problem. Everyone refused to replace the transmission. Was unable to attach the second page of the document. I can provide documentation when we first took in the Pathfinder with this problem.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

I keep change the battery to the control key and I can not start my vehicle . Information no key detected show in screen , and I can't unlock the doors and lock the doors.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

I can not move the shifter out of park. I have to use the release button next to the shifter every time to get it out of park.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

My gear shift no longer works and I have been putting a screwdriver in to manually override it for over a year. Yesterday, I put the car in reverse and the brake wouldn't engage. I took my foot off and put it back on the brake and again the car continued to roll. I put it in park and restarted and it worked fine. I have read this may have to do with a brake light switch and this is also related to the shifting problem, but Nissan says there is no recall. I was putting up with the gear shift as I didn't think it was a safety risk but I definitely could have had an accident backing out of the parking space yesterday.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

I bought a brand new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder in March of 2013. Within 6 months I noticed there was jerking with the transmission. I took it back to preston Nissan in maryland and was told they had received a bulletin and the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. They reprogrammed the transmission and it helped a little but a few months later it was doing the same thing. I took it back to preston Nissan. There I was told that they could not duplicate the problem and that they would reprogram it again. It did not help. I could not afford to keep taking it back, because they charge me every time to keep telling me there was nothing wrong. My car began to not accelerate when I was making a turn or when I was accelerating in traffic. We took it back to preston and we were told that they had put a device in to monitor the transmission as well as reprogrammed it again. My car continued to judder and shake and fail to accelerate. There was a class action lawsuit filed and Nissan extended the warranties to 84,000 miles. My car is now at 87,000 and a Nissan dealership in michigan is now stating that it needs a new transmission and a cooling fan. Nissan corporate office is now telling me that they will pay 90% of the fan and only 50% of the transmission. I bought the extended warranty when I purchased the car. The transmission is not the only thing wrong with this car. It has been one thing after the other. Door lock motor, visor, hood release, trunk latch, brake lights remain on when car is off, airbag indicator. . . The list goes on and on.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

I am driving my 2013 Pathfinder and from time to time, on the highway or local roads, even at take off I press the accelerator and nothing happens. The revs do not rise, the truck does not accelerate. I can put the accelerator to the floor and still nothing. It happens roughly once every time I drive it. I let go the accelerator and press it again and it is back to normal. The truck is warm every time it happens, so I cant say it is because I am driving the engine cold.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2016

I was on a trip to the store, all of a sudden my Pathfinder acted as if it had no power when I was getting ready to get going from a stoplight. This same thing occurred several more times throughout the drive. On one occasion my family and I were put into an unsafe situation. As I was trying to make a turn in an intersection my Pathfinder had no power and almost caused me to be hit by oncoming traffic. Another issue is with the brake lights wouldn't go off once I got to a stopping point. They stay on and don't go off without the fuse for the stop light being pulled.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2014

I was driving my car into a gravel driveway, I braked on the pavement to make my turn, turning into the gravel driveway, when I pressed on the brake pedal to slow the car, I had absolutely no brakes. The car would not stop. I had to quickly turn the car to avoid hitting another vehicle and a building, and had to slam the transmission into park to get the vehicle to stop. I contacted the dealership, advised them of the issue, as they were over an hour away, they sent someone with a trailer to come pick up the car. During this time, I also advised them of the passenger airbag light coming on while I had a passenger in the seat, stating that the airbag was off. My passenger was my teenage son, weighing over 120 lbs. I also had my husband in the seat, over 250 lbs, the light still came on. Nissan stated this was all due to a computer issue, they provided me with a loaner car as I was without my car for over 1 week. They even tried to sell me the loaner car, this should tell a person something right?? I have had weather stripping come off my car while I am driving, around the driver side roof, paint is peeling on the rear bumper, sometimes the car won't recognize my key fob to start, stating incorrect key id. The car stalls, hesitates, smokes, transmission "jerks", like it wants to give up, the ac does not blow cold air, sometimes its even warm. I will not let anyone drive my car for fear that it will stall out or not stop. Sometimes, when you press the gas pedal, the car will not move, or it hesitates to move. I have another recall to have repaired, the hood latch. . . With the dealership over an hour away, working full time, they only repair recalls during the week, how am I supposed to have it fixed, when the hood latch fails and I wreck? seriously, recall the vehicle, it has so many safety recalls, its just not safe.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

While in the course of normal highway driving, the radio continues to change channels, completely umprompted. It will not switch to a new preset, it will adjust up or down on the dial. For example, if I have the radio on 94. 9, it would adjust on its own to 95. 3. This is happening more and more frequently.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Bought this vehicle advertised as "new" however started having multiple issues within the first few days. The fuel gauge would read "0" miles regardless of how much the fuel tank was filled, and the transmission started slipping the 4th day. I would be driving along at anywhere from 30-55 mph when this would happen. Took it back to the original dealer for repair, who refused to put it in the shop and check it out, so I took it to another dealer who said that they were unable to reproduce the defects in the shop. I took it back multiple times for the same issues and they ended up putting more mileage on the vehicle than I did in the first 3 weeks with continuous "inability to reproduce results," however, as soon as I would leave the shop to go home the transmission would slip and the car would decelerate almost to a stop and then lunge again when it would kick back in. The fuel guage continued to read zero at fill ups, very frustrating. I called Nissan consumer affairs with no real progress. The dealer refused repair printoffs as well, so I really don't know what they did to the vehicle while it was in the shop.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

It happened 3 times already, car started shaking and it stop all of a sudden, all transmission fluid and coolant drained out. Luckily we did'n get hit from the back because the first time was when we stop on a red light and it didn't move at all we tow it to the nearest Nissan dealer and they said that it was a factory defect but that was fixed. I had a bad feeling and took it to puente hills Nissan where we bought the car. But they told to comeback next day so on my way home on the freeway it started again we just had seconds to pull aside from the road and the car didn't moved at all, fluids drained out again and this time the smoke was even worst I had a panic attack because I thought it was going to catch on fire so I've jumped out of the car "on the freeway" without thinking that I could get killed. The car got towed to puente hills Nissan and "they fixed it". When they were testing it it happened again!! they towed the car back and now after a week they said that they already fixed the problem that it was the radiator that had too much pressure so was heating up and shooting the hoses off so they now replaced the radiator and told me to go and pick up the car. I don't feel safe driving around with my family this situation can cause an accident. Nissan dealer won't replace the car even though there is the lemon law that states that after 3 repairs from the same issue the car has to be replaced and even more because it was a brand new car and we only had it for 6 weeks. And there was also 2 recalls on this particular vehicle one on the electric system and other one on the air bags so now I don't know what else is going to happen with this vehicle.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

During slow acceleration from full stop, the vehicle would vibrate/shudder for a couple or seconds somewhere between 15-25 mph. It feels like the transmission would slip and catch and slip and catch. This happens 3-5 times a day. I drive mostly city driving so its mostly stop and go driving from one light to the next. There has been a recall to reprogram the transmission computer but my vehicle is not part of that recall and exhibits the same issues. Even after the reprogram, other owners I've talked to still experience the same issue.
