On September 13, 2026, my 2024 Nissan Pathfinder platinum 4wd experienced a sudden and severe electronic/system malfunction while I was driving on I-75 near the jellico mountains in ky into TN. I was traveling at highway speed in the fast lane and was passing multiple semi-trucks when the malfunction occurred. Because I was in mountainous terrain, traveling at highway speed, and surrounded by heavy commercial traffic, the situation created an immediate and serious safety concern. We could have been killed. The malfunction involved multiple vehicle systems and warning indicators appearing or becoming unavailable at approximately the same time. . The vehicle appeared to experience a cascade of electronic/system errors and power failure. This is the fourth occurrence this has happened to us and Nissan says they cannot duplicate the errors or what happened. After the fist time, I knew as a retired insurance agent, to document and take photos which I did. I have the last three. Based on the nature of the simultaneous failures, I am concerned about a possible malfunction involving the vehicle's electronic control system, control modules, communication network (can), power supply/voltage regulation, or software. I am specifically concerned that a failure in communication between the vehicle's primary electronic control modules could cause multiple systems to report faults simultaneously. We are begging NHTSA to investigate these Pathfinders. We have lost confidence that the vehicle is safe, especially in the mountains. We live on a mountain and we are terrified to drive it ever again. I truly believe this vehicle if put back on the road, would end up with fatalities. The vehicle was towed to the Nissan dealership and remains in Nissan's possession. Nissan is sending a head engineer on October 1st to look at the vehicle. We do not want this vehicle returned to us or even sold to anyone, as it is not a safe vehicle to be on the road. Please please help us.
This is the third major safety that I have had at this point, with four in total and that isn't the little things, that is the major safety events where we've been terrified to drive the vehicle. I had washed my car in the car wash and after exiting about a mile down the street, the vehicle made a jar and all the lights on the dash started throwing malfunction errors like a christmas tree again. I was stalled at the busy intersection. I had total loss of power and it was 98 outside by myself . I had two gentlemen help me try to get into neutral to get out of the busy intersection. We finally were able to get to the walmart parking lot across the street. Called Nissan, the service team asked to disconnect battery etc and see, which we had already done, and then we did it again. I was terrified to drive to the dealership with it and when I did, again, Nissan responded with they cannot duplicate the codes, showing no codes, even after I showed them the photos. This vehicle is unsafe for anyone to drive it. Even if Nissan buys this back on a repurchase and then puts it on the road, someone or multiple fatalities will happen with this vehicle. We believe their main communication system doesn't communicate . The Nissan app itself throws me abs codes for weeks and they show no abs codes on a separate incident. We have a vehicle that we are terrified to take on the road and can depend on. Nissan fails to acknowledge they have an issue with their safety systems. Also, while driving down the road about a week before this, the driver's door latch was just clicking up and down and literally trying to open the door going down the highway at 70 mph. Another safety thing that happens continuously, the passenger safety indicators in the back seat, constantly error out. Nissan's response, they are aware of this one, just disable them. Well, I don't have children, however, seriously that is their advice if a child dies?.
The car is sending off the alarm for the back seat not being buckled when there is no one back there and there is nothing on the seats, it is now also doing it where it does that but shows one of them as buckled when there’s no one in the seats.
There are 2 antifreeze lines going to the back of the vehicle, they are to cool the 3rd row seats using air conditioning. Both lines were incorrectly designed so they have a repetitive failure rate of 100%. Both lines failed in March of 2025 and were replaced by serra Nissan of traverse city, mi. Both lines failed again and were confirmed by the dealer yesterday on 7-1-26. The first failure occurred at 8,401 miles. The second failure at 16,742. Anti freeze is spraying on the brakes of the rear passenger area, a major safety issue. Nissan does not want to spend the money to redesign the failed part design so they reinstall the same failed antifreeze lines with every repair. There is a 5 month wait for new parts to arrive due to the massive quantity of failures. No warning lights appear during these repetitive failures. The failures are visible, you can see the antifreeze leaks all around the rear brake. And the air conditioning stops functioning in the car. Serra Nissan is very upset that Nissan inc. Is refusing to correct the failed design of the part. So the failures will occur forever.
1st my rear brakes and rotors had to be replaced before 36000 miles and 36 months then my battery needed replaced before 35000 miles and around 27 months. There are complaints on these issues why haven't they been recalled check 2022, 2023 and 2024 nisaan Pathfinder please major safety issues.
Air conditioner , leak due to faulty orings . Resulting in no cold air and a severe leak refrigerate leak.
While driving down the road, heard a ‘gunshot’ sound and the sunroof had exploded.
Sunroof “exploded” while driving and shattered. Yes, this may be inspected. Risk of glass entering the vehicle. The incident has not been inspected yet. There were not any warning messages or indicators.
On two separate occasions I placed my child in the car and then placed my bag in the front passenger seat of the car with my key fob in the bag. After closing the door, the car would automatically lock as if I had walked away from it with my keys. But the key fob was in the car. My car was not turned on and on one occasion it was 70+ degrees outside. I had no way of accessing my car and my child was locked inside it. Luckily things turned out okay, but now I can never trust my keys or my car. I always have my keys on me and never leave them in the car. I know it’s a safety feature for these cars to stay unlocked whenever keys are in the car. My car however, seems to have an issue with this feature. It’s impossible to duplicate so I’m not sure taking it into the shop would make a difference.
Major safety system failure. This was the second one in the first year of ownership, and now there are five total, with the last three leading up to the 07 04 2026 compliant number 11765620 and the current complaint number 11765546 currently in Nissan possession with a lead engineer coming to inspect the vehicle October 1st 2026. For the past few months leading up to this August incident, we had experienced not only one but several terrifying life experiences, the first one at only 5876 miles, we knew at that time that Nissan was not going to uphold their warranty. This one, we decided to pull off the interstate into a pilot gas station and evaluated. Called Nissan the next morning, towed the vehicle, had for several days replaced gasket and seal. Could not duplicate the total malfunction lights on the dash and unfortunately I did not get the photos this time, due to not thinking I needed them. Fast forward to November 24th, they half did the engine repair and going down the highway realized that it was us again making the smoke and the dashboard going crazy. Nissan kept the vehicle this time from Nov 24 to December 29. Replaced several engine component's and gaskets. Justin the tech had said new engine, then Nissan came back and said that they'd do a repair instead. Here we are lucky to be alive and still fighting with Nissan and getting them to acknowledge this vehicle is unsafe to be on the road. Nissan lacked the first consumer complaint took days to get a call, dealership said she called once, they were gathering the info for her, in meantime, she had already drafted a letter and left voicemail they were not willing to repurchase the vehicles. They have a huge safety issue. Their main cad system is not communicating with the other main systems. This vehicle is not safe for us to take back or for it to be resold to anyone. It's a death trap and we are very fortunate that we were not killed or anyone in our vehicle .
This morning at approximately 0615 I walked out to my vehicle to go to work. There was no damage to my car. When I entered my vehicle and closed my driver door, my tailgate glass crumbled leaving a massive horizontal hole in my rear windshield as well as the outer sides. There is now glass all over my trunk and driveway. Once again, the car had been sitting in my driveway for three days, there were no large pieces of debris around that could have hit it, and when I was in my car there were no loud sounds indicating something struck my tailgate. It just spontaneously shattered.
This was the first of five failtures, on other complaints, I had put four however, my daughter reminded me coming back from louisiana in April of 2025 that it happened on I 59. I have been trying to work with Nissan for two years on this. I am sharing you, we absolutely are afraid to take this vehicle back, it's not safe for anyone to possess as it will result in loss of life. Nissan needs to own up to this failure and repurcase this and use it for tests to figure out why their main communication system is not relating. I was out in the middle of nowhere and scared to death that it was going to continue to die on me, I stopped finally at a pilot and a nice employee at pilot who just got off work helped me. He disconnected the battery twice, we let it sit, then it started and cleared. I had taken a time stamped photo and sent to my husband for guidance. We took the vehicle to Nissan the tech said they could not duplicate the error, this was the first of a two year struggle with trying to work with Nissan and figure out what was wrong. After this last sept 13th incident complaint 11765546, 11765620,11765630 and I am entering two more where I have either video, photos, or both. I have been gathering witness statements. I am a retired insurance agent in the field for 34 years and my husband a retired veteran and also a retired manufacturing engineer. We are Smart people who happened to buy a lemon of a vehicle that is not safe for it to be on the road. Looking from this time, my family is so lucky that none of us got killed on the side of the road, on the interstate itself, or simply driving to and from our home in the mountains here in TN. We are just terrified to be in this vehicle. Also, the saddest thing I want noted, is these are mostly higheway miles back and forth to my daughters house in louisiana. Not even in town miles and the vehicle has done these things. Please please help us hold Nissan accountable. This vehicle is a danger to human life. Thank you.
While driving at highway speeds, when attempting to accelerate when passing another vehicle or changing lanes, the vehicle has lost acceleration on more than 1 occasion. I could not accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way down. The car just rolled slowly for about 10 seconds before it began accelerating and jerked forward. Nissan not providing a solution because they “cannot duplicate the issue”.
Transmission malfunction/failure caused loss of all power and had to coast over 3 lanes to the only available shoulder on the left side of the express lanes. This in and of itself could have been catastrophic due to the speed of the vehicles on the express lanes. Turns out there's a failure point on the flexplate and Nissan techs are aware of the issue. Nissan as a whole should replace them if this is the result.
The auto stop/start function. When enabled sometimes it shuts off engine and does not restart as the system should. Stopping at a red light, almost completely but light turns green and you go to accelerate but auto/stop shuts engine off and car dies in middle of intersection. You have to put in park restart engine and put in drive. Has happened to us 4 times with only 14k on car. Shop can’t seem to see what wrong. Car dies set faults but as soon as you restart car faults go away and Nissan says they can’t see any stored faults. They changed fuel pump put it did. It did not fix the issue. Happens again.
Driver side view mirror shakes while driving making it unsafe to use the mirror to make s lane change. Nissan corporate refusing to fix the issue, they say it's normal.
While driving the car, the drivers side view mirror constantly shakes. The corporate mechanic advised he could not fix it. Nissan refusing to correct the issue. Almost involved in two accidents.
While merging onto the parkway, the gas pedal snapped off during acceleration. There was no warning at all, it just snapped off when I stepped on the pedal. I was fortunate enough to pull over onto the shoulder of the parkway without incident, but I had no way to accelerate the car if I needed to. I was very lucky that nothing happened, but I'm very concerned about driving this vehicle and the potential danger it poses to myself and others if this happens again. I believe this is a serious issue and should be looked into with urgency. I've attached pictures of where the pedal snapped off. It appears to be a cheaply made piece of plastic that completely broke off. There is another picture with the pedal intact and circled in red, you can see an indentation towards the top of the pedal. This is where I believe the pedal broke off from.
Driver's side view mirror constantly shakes making impossible to use while driving. Makes you sick when looking at it. Unsafe to make lane change.
Too long for this space, I have attached a pdf with all the information also attached "work order" picture of vehicle being towed, then pictures of the alerts these were from Sunday but were the same from Saturday through Monday. Please look into this as I believe it is a serious issue that a brand new car has 2 engine failures in the middle of highways! I am highly concerned it may be another issure than the battery and I want them to be recalled and safe for everyone!!! they will have this car back on lot for sale probably today!!! please help.
