general problems of the 2012 Nissan Rogue - part 1

2008-13 Nissan Rogue/2014 Rogue select (s35) driver’s kick panel harness connector inspection voluntary safety recall campaign reference: r1421 I spoke with Nissan and the recall does not cover my VIN number however I had previously owned a 2015 Nissan altima and experienced the same issue. My car will be serviced on 2/24/26 with a Nissan dealership in hampton, va for repairs related to this issue. My daughter drives the car while she is away at college. The issue began a few weeks ago when snow and rain occurred and now the bluetooth is going out and now the check engine light appears. I'm pretty certain this VIN should be included in the recall previously issued. The car maybe out of warranty but this appears to be a manufacturer related problem. I'm attaching current video.

As I am steering, the horn goes off at any moment for a long period of time distracting many drivers and scaring them half to death on the road ! this is an incident that has been going on for a while, and there are many other people that I have came across with the same problem. This is my only car and I have no idea who to turn to, but the amount of money for a Nissan that is in great condition and has never been in an accidents seems to have allot of electrical failures.

Cvt transmission. Car seems to lose power when accelerating from a stop or entering traffic. Shudders, shakes seems to go to limp mode. I read up on Nissan cvt issues. Warranty's have been extended on year before mine (2012) and those years after me. Called Nissan corporate. They said they had few complaints on Rogues. I said are you serious? I've read about plenty of complaints. So why have you extended warrantys? advised they couldn't help me. First Nissan for me and last. Have never had any transmission issues with my vehicles over the years and I'm 74. Other cars nothing major just regular maintenance. Disappointed with Nissan they know they have a major issue with cvt transmissions and don't stand behind their product. My car is sitting in the garage. I'm afraid to drive it and around $5000 to replace transmission. It's a 2012 Nissan Rogue sl. Please look into this issue.

The transmission went out which is, evidently, common in the Rogue.

I have a leak on drivers side water was standing in floor it stays wet I had a new wind shield put in but that didn't help . No one knows what is going on is this a fire thing ? what do I do please help .

The transmission needs repair. It is a cvt transmission, known to be problematic in Nissans.

I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue with 84,000 miles and my cvt makes a howling noise when I start up the car. After warming up the car, the howling noise continues onto the local city streets and into the highway, and after a few minutes of driving, the screeching sounds go away. A few weeks later, I brought the car into a local mechanic for an oil change and the mechanic determined that the transmission needs to be replaced. I have maintained the car in optimal care by ensuring maintenance and general repairs are done bi-annually. After discussing this matter with Nissan corporate, they determined my car warranty has expired and they cannot extend other Nissan Rogue extended warranty for my car. However, the 2003-2010 Nissan vehicles equipped with a continuously variable transmission (cvt) have a 10-year/120,000-mile (whichever comes first) cvt limited warranty extension, according to the Nissan corporate warranty page. The cost to fix the car is approximately $5,500. The replacement of the transmission and additional normal wear and tear repairs (back rotors and pads) will cost more than the value of the car. Due to the faulty cvt design based on historic reporting on this model, I am very disappointed to learn that the quality and integrity of the transmission for having a car at such a low mileage. I had been lucky to bring the car into a local mechanic just in time before it stopped working. Had the car stopped on the highway, I would have caused a major traffic accident due to the poor quality design of the transmission.

The transmission died while driving on the highway and speed dropped to 20 miles an hour in a matter of a couple of minutes. Nissan has extended the warranty on the transmission for most years except 2011 and 2012 but it is the same transmission in the car. How can Nissan keep using a transmission that is problematic and not cover the repair for all vehicles.

While my 2 daughters(22,17) were driving at highway speed from n. E to CO. The vehicle without warning decelerated and dropped to 35 mph,in a panic she pulled off to the side of the highway and called my wife who googled Nissan Rogue issues and found that the transmission would overheat and then decelerate to protect its components from further damage without any prior warnings. If you wait awhile and were lucky that the tranny had not failed completely in about a half an hour the vehicle would reset and you would be able to drive it again. My daughters made it home and I started to research the commonly known issue with the c. V. T transmission! 1 week later my wife informed me she has had 4-5 instances where the car will not accelerate and high engine r. P. M. S while being in stop and go traffic or from being stopped at a red light or stop sign. I called Nissan consumer affairs dept. And was told there is nothing they were able to assist with because this car had no recalls and 122,164 miles on it. On Monday 5/31/2021 the car would start but the transmission would not engage,the r. P. M. S would not go above 1000. I contacted Nissan and they told me to bring it to a Nissan dealer for diagnostics. I had the vehicle towed($95. )to valley Nissan longmont,c0(303-586-4311)saied told me "the tranny had failed,and there were a few gaskets that needed replaced. $147. For diagnostics and the estimate to repair is $4281. I called Nissan c. C 1(888-388-0318)to report the findings and was again told"I am sorry but there is nothing we can help you with. I asked valley Nissan if they would be able to help out and they offered to help by reducing labor and materials for the replacement and repairs to $3859. 54. I cannot at this point afford to make the needed repairs,I am not working currently. Nissan case# 43974262. The car is registered under my wife harriet langer.

I was driving on the high way and my transmission starting acting up and I had to keep pulling over. I'm also experiencing weird noises with my bear and hub and it's been changed.

I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue two weeks after buying this vehicle brand new the engine light came on ,it was showing air mass flow sensor on a code reader and was replaced several times not fixing the problem today 8 years later the engine light still on, sometimes it just shuts off for a couple days on its own then it comes right up,noe sometimes while driving the car looses speed and it starts to shake back and forth and the traction light comes on, this is a serious accident waiting to happen,I have to safely park the car shut it off wait about 2 minutes and start the car again for the traction light to come off and drive normal again,.

On 7/28 at approximately 8:45am, after picking my husband up after 6 months being deployed responding to this pandemic, without warning and/or no indication lights, I experienced a sudden loss of acceleration on my 2012 Nissan Rogue. I was in the middle of the highway traveling on the new jersey turnpike. As cars and tractor-trailers passing by at speed limits, I had to slowly drift to get to shoulder. I had only been driving about an hour. I had to try to navigate safety across lanes to the shoulder even with pressing the gas pedal down to the floor, the car had only less than 5 miles acceleration. Once on the shoulder, I cut the car off. After about 40 mins, I was able to move the vehicle again to the nearest exit which thankfully was less than a . 25 away before the car lost acceleration again and I was able to drift into gas station. Upon getting the car towed to nearest Nissan dealership, the service rep told me that the cvt/transmission has been a concern for Rogues as well as other nisaan cars and that their dealership has had to service them. Of course he would need to diagnose the problem and sure enough diagnoses came back as cvt/transmission issue. This is horrible and a consumer safety concern issue. It was very scary and dangerous situation. Nissan needs a recall on their vehicles regardless of cost- they need to be socially responsible to their consumers. My son also has a Nissan altima and I am terrified of the possibility of this happening to him. I have never experienced this with this vehicle. I have never had any warning and or warning lights to such.

Vehicle starts to stall while driving . After a stopping at light it was slow to accelerate.

Clock spring issues, as far as I know a clock spring should last as long as the life of the vehicle, unless there is an accident or something unavoidable. Due to this issue my horn stopped working; this happened while in motion. I hope Nissan takes responsibility and replaces my clock spring at no charge. Also, in less than a month two front signal bulbs had to be replaced (left and right. ).

The Nissan Rogue has a cvt transmission, which is known to fail. And has to replaces and not repaired or rebuilt.

My cars transmission is making a weird raining sound when I turn it in and drive it, I know there is a recall for Nissan cars for the cvt transmission wondering if mine is covered.

I was driving from fort worth to arlington TX about 35 miles. When I would try to give it gas, the motor would rev up and the rpm's would go up but my vehicle would not go. I exited at the nearest exit which was a loop and then my vehicle would not go at all. This is during rush hour (5:45pm) and an because my vehicle would not go at all, an 18 wheeler that was behind me was not able to stop and if he hadn't swirved and gone off the road and into the grass, he would have hit the back of my vehicle where my 2 kids were. This caused several other cars behind him to almost wreck . This was the 1st time this happened. Then again this morning on Jan 28th, 2019 Monday morning, I drove from fort worth to grapevine TX about 40 miles. The car did the exact same thing. However there was no exit and no shoulder to pull over at due to construction. I was once again almost rear ended by the car behind me. Once again, I am giving it gas and the car will not go at all. This problem seems to be the transmission from what I have read on line with many other people having the same problem with the Nissan Rogue. . . . This is completely unsafe and unacceptable.

Transmisi�n cvt problem.

I'm just so upset with this vehicle. When you drive for about an hour the truck won't go past 70. It starts to slow down and you can't get any speed. I was going to wv and it started messing up I couldn't even pull the hill. It would just go so slow, couldn't get in another lane. It was so scary thought I was gonna get hit. The car always has an whinning noise when your on the road over 30 minutes. You have to cut the truck off, let it sit a while to get the speed to come back up. The next day I was on my way to the beach and it would not go past 20mph. Mash the gas to the floor and it would just make noise. Other than that I like the truck. Every time I take it to the dealership they are trying to charge me almost 1,000 dollars for something that they knew about before they sold these cars to the consumers. Nissan need to recall these cars , they are very dangerous especially if your on the highway with babies in the car.

When I go long distance in my rouge the transmission slows me do to around 35 to 40 miles an hour going up hills and when you stop and go when you hit the gas is doesn't seem to want to go. Unsafe on the freeway it's going to kill somebody and I hope its looked into before this happens. I bought this so I had a family trusted vehicle for trips and I would never drive it for the reasons mentioned sometimes in town but mostly on the highway.

Deceleration of vehicle resulting in having to pull over for an hour to let something reset. After an hour can drive for an hour before pulling over again. This is a re-problem. Vehicle deceleration can result in speeds as low as 30 mph on hwy.

I am going to be on my third compressor replacement for this vehicle with a little over 100,000 miles on it. The defrost and the a/c are affected. It is particularly dangerous in the winter in new england when my defrost is sub-par and impedes visibility. I have read numerous complaints on the internet about this issue in this vehicle and it should not have to be on the burden of the consumer to continually pay for this!.

Transmission is overheated after about 2 hr driving on highway. Its verry tough to climb to the hill, and you can drive only 40 mph. Its very dangerous when your car suddenly stop driving on highways. Its a known problem on m the web, people write a lot about thus issue, but there is still no recall. It needs a better cooler system.

When my car is running between 40 to 60 miles on a city street or hills is a noise like at ( rattles) under the car I went to the dealer a lot times and they can't find the problem.

The vehicle body gives electrical shorts when you it's suddenly turned off. Also the cooling system blows hot air few months after I bought it. This happened when the vehicle was in motion.

I have had my car since 12'. Never an issue, I keep up regular maintenance. I hit 80k a month ago. Driving Friday, regular speed, approx 40ph car just loses power in traffic. I had to coast to emergency lane. Towed to dealership, testing since Friday can't give me any answers.

The automatic lock on the drivers side has stopped working when it is "cold" outside. It was taken to Nissan last year and determined that the lock had gotten "too cold" and that many other Rogues had been seen for the same issue. This is the second time this has happened. The door will not open.

While driving 70 mph on the highway my vehicle all of a sudden lost acceleration which resulted in my nearly being into an accident with a tractor trailer truck and other vehicles behind me. My foot was pressing the gas pedal to the floor and the vehicle dropped down to 40 mph and stayed there for some time. This happened numerous times while I was driving home with my daughter and I no longer felt safe using the vehicle. I did a search on google and found that hundreds of others were having the same issue which was the result of the cvt transmission but that Nissan was making the consumer pay to install these "cooler kits". Not only are these vehicles with these transmissions unsafe and ticking timebombs; it is unfair that Nissan is making the consumers responsible for fixing an issue they are well aware of. We're trusting that our vehicles are safe enough to transport our families and children in and they aren't!! my daughter and I both could have been in a serious car accident due to this cvt transmission issue that Nissan is well aware of. Please do something about this and hold Nissan accountable before someone loses their life. These vehicles are not safe!!.

The a/c went out suddenly with only 57000 on this 2012 Nissan Rogue. My pregant wife is unable to drive this to work as it gets too hot in the vehicle. The shop quoted $1700 to replace a faulty a/c compressor. There is a lot of online chatter about multiple Nissan vehicles having a/c issues month to a few years after driving off the lot. This is ridiculous and Nissan should be held accountable. They already have a part that supersedes the replacement part that can be installed. They obviously redesigned this part for a reason. Please dorad this on if this is not the correct agency to report this issue but it seems like a safety issue for my pregnant wife as she can't drive it to work.

The heat shield was loose and making noise after I bought the truck on 0818/2015 and I took it to Nissan and had it fixed on 07/12/16, I just had to take it back on 06/13/17 and had the same thing fixed but this time I had to pay out of my pocket, not happy about this at all, I think there is a serious problem with heat shields on this vehicle .

Lost power 2x in past year. Once on city streets, even though gas pedal floored, car barely moved. Next on highway, had to cruise until could safely exit highway. Issue possibly with cvt transmission.

When traveling for about 1 hour (freeway) the engine roar, the rpm going up and down, lose speed especially up hill, smell hot, we cant use it for long drive anymore, just to work and store,.

On 10/30/15, I was driving my Nissan Rogue and pulled out at a light in abingdon, va onto a main highway. It was dark and around 7:00 p. M. And had just began to accelerate. The vehicle suddenly made a really loud noise that sounded almost like driving a vehicle with a flat and then there was an odor that smelled like something on fire. I gave it gas, but it would not accelerate. I almost got rear ended as I was pushing the gas trying to get out of the road and unable to move the vehicle. I had my 10 month old daughter in her car seat in the rear of the car. With help I was able to push vehicle partially out of the road. My daughter and I sat on the side of the road for almost three hours before a tow truck came to pick us up. I contacted Nissan in bristol and was told that the power train is not under any warranty. The vehicle only has 81,000 miles on it. I thought the vehicle had a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty, but was told that was not the case. My concern is I was almost rear ended due to the transmission going out. Took vehicle to a transmission shop and was told the torque had literally exploded sending metal throughout the transmission. After researching, I saw where Nissan had reimbursed people for transmissions and extended powertrain warranty to 10 years/120,000 miles. It has a cvt transmission. I was without a vehicle for over 2 weeks. The vehicle has since been repaired but there is still a noise and the repairman said that I was going to need to get a driveshaft for the vehicle as it had been damaged as well. I am still paying on this vehicle and I do not feel safe driving it. My husband contacted Nissan and he was told it was not under warranty. I contact Nissan on 11/16/15 and was told it was under warranty until 1/13/16. But I had to have it repaired at a Nissan dealer. Vehicle was repaired by amocco asking for reimbursement. Thank you.
