While driving at approximately 15–20 mph, my vehicle suddenly started beeping and displayed a quick warning message on the dashboard before the brakes locked up on their own. The incident lasted only a few seconds, but it was extremely alarming. This same issue has now happened twice, both times in the exact same location on the same road, driving at about the same speed. The first incident was roughly around [xxx], the second incident was [xxx]. On both occasions, I had my [xxx] twin daughters in the car with me, and it frightened all of us. Thankfully, there were no vehicles directly behind me either time, otherwise it could have resulted in a rear-end collision. I believe there were cars ahead of me, but they were far enough away that I don’t think they triggered the sensors. Both times it was sunny, dry weather, and the road conditions were normal—no rain, no slick surfaces, and no obstacles in front of me. I am not sure if sunlight could have affected a sensor, but it appears to be related to the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system or another electronic braking malfunction. The problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealer, but I plan to have it checked as soon as possible. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On 3/5/24 I had a collision with a large deer. The front of the car was impacted. The air bags did not deploy. I was driving at 50 mph. I have sent my concern to Nissan but they have not responded. Approximately $10,000 in damage was done.
October 3, 2018 I went to a local mall. On my way out of the parking lot lights started blinking on my dash and the automatic emergency braking system engaged unexpectedly when there was no other car near my car either in front or on either side. The vehicle was moving steadily about 25 to 30 mph on the road before you get to rte 100/422 bypass. There was no reason for this incident to occur since there was no other car nearby, no debris on the road, and nothing adhering to the front of the car near the sensor. I was totally freaked out because the car was jerking, the car (not the driver was in control) and it almost did not stop at ta major intersection. God forbid I was on a major highway or I would have been dead. The vehicle was in motion but the control of the vehicle was under absolute control of the automatic breaking system.
