general problems of the 2020 Nissan Rogue - part 1

On Thursday, xxx at 14:44 pm while driving on route 202 in [xxx], the car made a loud popping sound from under the hood, followed by other metallic sounds, then all dashboard warning indicator lights flashed & the accelerator stoped working. As the car was being steered to the shoulder, a huge plume of black smoke rose from under the hood followed by a roaring fire ?? from under the hood. As per our written correspondence to usaa, our insurance company is conducting a forensic cause/analysis. We have no definitive causation determination as of this writing. The car is available for inspection at the police private towing facility. The police & fire department closed route 202 to battle the car fire. No dealer has examined the car remains, to our knowledge, as of yet. The warning lights appeared almost simultaneously as the loud popping sound and other under hood metallic sounds. The insurance company said they will conduct a forensic source /cause analysis investigation. We will report this car fire next to Nissan consumer safety and both organizations can coordinate investigations, as far as we anticipate. Not applicable regarding reproducing the massive car car. While trying to get into my vehicle my door wouldn't open. I had to open it manually with my key. Once inside, I noticed the door locks also wouldn't lock or unlock my driver's side door. After searching into this, I fear if I dont manually lock it while in use (driving) my car door can fly open.

The vehicle’s air conditioning began turning on and off intermittently while driving. I initially had the issue inspected by an independent mechanic, who checked the refrigerant and confirmed that the freon level was normal. After further inspection, the mechanic determined that the radiator cooling fan was not operating properly. The failed cooling fan appears to be affecting the vehicle’s cooling system and air conditioning operation. A malfunctioning radiator cooling fan can create a safety concern because it may prevent the engine from receiving adequate cooling, potentially leading to engine overheating, especially during extended driving or in hot conditions. The vehicle could potentially become disabled while being driven if the engine overheats. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The cooling fan assembly is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has not been inspected by Nissan, police, or an insurance representative to my knowledge. Prior to the failure being identified, the primary symptom was the air conditioning repeatedly turning on and off unexpectedly. There were no known warning lights or messages prior to the issue. The refrigerant was checked and found to be at an appropriate level, which led the mechanic to further investigate the cooling system and identify the nonfunctioning radiator fan. Unkown whether the fan failure is related to a larger manufacturing or design defect. However, I am concerned because premature radiator cooling fan failures have been reported on Nissan Rogue sport vehicles, and a class action lawsuit was filed in July 2026 concerning premature fan failures and engine overheating in certain 2017 to 2022 Rogue sport models. As of mid 2026, Nissan has not issued an official recall for the radiator cooling fan assembly in the Rogue or Rogue sport. Had to pay an excessive amount of money to get this repair.

There is oil leaking into the engine. Whole engine needs to be replaced.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue as I was driving, started smoking, then stalled. I immediately got out and popped the hood and there was flames everywhere. Entire engine bay burned. I saved the car from burning completely by dumping water. As I was in a national forest, that is very acceptable to wildfires. Fire department and fire investigator came out. Fire investigator said it was of his opinion that it started on the passenger side, electric cooling fan for the radiator. Which I agree after looking at the aftermath and noticing where to fire was coming from as I was putting it out.

The front passenger door lock does not fully engage or disengage with the key fob or when putting the car in park. The lever must be maually controls by hand to unlock or lock the door. 0.

Unknown driver door will not lock via key fob or button. Actuator appears to be faulty. Car has been left unlocked without me knowing numerous time. I have to manually lock/unlock the door. It does stay locked durning driving but, may be manually locked. The auto lock safety feature no longer works.

Driver's side door locks intermittently will not lock or unlock with button or intelli key fob. Requiring to use manual key inside intelli key to unlock/lock car or manual inside lock itself. Multiple people have filed complaints about this. There is even a class action lawsuit. Something should be done to force Nissan to do a recall instead of saying we can fix it for $700. I understand that some may not see this as a specific safety issue but when coming to your car in a dark parking lot and having to search for the key to manually unlock it, feels a little like a safety issue to me. Started the car and then the engine caught fire. Front of the car is completely charred and fire had to be put out by the fire department. Car is totaled now. This complaint has been raised with Nissan consumer affairs.

The car door lock actuator failed prematurely. Part should last 10 to 20 years. It's not locking the door or if it is locked it won't let you in or out. Big issue regarding safety. I know past models had a recall. Unfortunately haven't heard anything on it for my model year. Getting repair done for my own safety out of pocket.

The fuel gauge has failed. The ac unit has been finicky since I purchased the vehicle and has already received one repair. Fuel gauge has been reading incorrectly for 2 weeks now. Read that it is a common issue for the Nissan Rogue sports. A few days ago my forward collision warning came on and said system error. There were no objects in front of me or stuck to the vehicle.

Vehicle information: 2020 Nissan Rogue component: structure/doors latch/lock/linkage description of incident: I am writing to report a serious safety defect regarding the front door lock actuators on my 2020 Nissan Rogue. Without warning, the front door lock actuator(s) completely failed, rendering the electronic locking and unlocking mechanism useless. This is a critical safety hazard. When the actuator fails, the door can become jammed and I cannot lock my front doors. In an emergency situation or a motor vehicle accident, first responders would not be able to open the doors from the outside, and occupants would be trapped inside due to this component failure. In safety situations I am unable to use the fob to unlock/lock the doors nor the buttons inside the car to lock/unlock. This is a well-documented and widespread issue with the 2014–2020 Nissan Rogue generation. Nissan is aware of this defect but has not issued a recall. I am requesting that the NHTSA launch an official safety investigation into Nissan's door latch and actuator assemblies before this defect results in a severe injury or fatal entrapment.

The front driver and passenger door lock do not function properly. Both with key locks and in door lock switches. The car has less than 35k miles.

Cooling fan is defective.

Engine shut off while waiting at a red light when pressing the gas pedal, everything else working find gear shit moving but car like disconnected,then 1 week later shuts off again at a drive through while pressing the brakes , remote start has never worked in the vehicle which is equipped with one, sometimes the screens shuts off while driving having to turn on and off the car multiple times until it works.

Corrosion in the under-dash electrical connector caused by water/moisture.

I have a constant aeb warning light on the dashboard.

The ignition switch (push start button) stopped working. At the time, the key fob batteries were new. The key fobs were still working - the lock/unlock worked, the trunk release worked, and the remote start even worked. The 'trick' of holding the tip of the key fob to the start button did not start the car. This is a safety hazard because my car will not start. Luckily I was at home, but I could have been stranded somewhere. My car is currently at a Nissan dealership. I was hoping that the computer codes just needed to be reset. However, they are telling me the body control module needs to be replaced. I would like the bcm investigated by the NHTSA. Previous years of the Nissan Rogue have had bcm issues. My particular car has not been in any circumstance that would make the bcm go bad - it's only four years old and has not been exposed to flood or extreme heat/cold. The 'key battery low' light came on the dash a couple weeks prior. I had just replaced the key fob battery in both fobs the day before the start button issue. The microphone has stopped working. This makes hands free phone operation impossible. Mileage 43111. The sudden loss of this function lead to confusion and distraction while operating the vehicle. The dealer has not yet seen the issue as the are no trustworthy dealers in existence that I'm aware of. The problem seems common enough given a recall of the 2018 model for the same problem.

2020 Nissan roogue s. The doors lock randomly when in vehicle or away from vehicle without using the key fob.

The trunk will open and as you are putting stuff in the trunk it will automatically start shutting and does not stop even though you are under it. Very dangerous. You have to quickly get out of the way. I don't know exactly when it started but it's been awhile.

2020 Nissan Rogue sport s awd - the entire car unexpectedly shut down (I. E. : exactly as if the car was completely off) while driving on two separate occasions, almost causing massive accidents and potential severe injury and/or death for everyone affected. Fortunately, I immediately reacted to get on a shoulder lane and allow the car to slow down, even though the car had no power steering, breaks that malfunctioned, and an electrical system/lights that completely went dead. This is all due to the jackknife key recall, which was not properly disclosed by the dealership, and which Nissan refuses to properly address and fix the matter even while acknowledging that an accident could have caused severe bodily injury and/or death. Also, the recall permanent fix is negligent due to the fact that the key fob would have a plastic spacer that would require key fob to have the key out in the open position at all times. The issue is that the key fob was never engineered to be in an open position at all times, so it would most likely break fast. This would require the consumer to now pay thousands of dollars to have a a new key fob made and to replace the affected areas of the key slot. Nissan should be responsible for finding a permanent fix , which should be to replace all affected parts with new ones, instead of inserting a cheap plastic spacer in the key fob which would require it to stay erect 24/7 all in the name of profits. The lives of our family members, kids, loved ones, and anyone affected are more important than Nissan's cheap fix (a cheap plastic spacer that probably costs less than $0. 99 to produce, all in the name of increased profits and decreased costs by finding the most unsafest and cheapest solution possible. What if the spacer breaks, since the key will get destroyed being erect 24/7 in someone's pocket all day, and this happens again! Nissan should be mandated to either replace all affected parts with completely new parts or buy the car back above value.

The key fob and vehicle are not "reading" each other. The Rogue doesn't recognize the key. This has left me unable to start the vehicle on numerous occasions and I have been stranded.

Vehicle has 61k miles and the a/c began blowing cold and hot intermittently as the car was idle but no engine lights were coming on. 5 days later a mechanic was able to look at vehicle and discovered the one fan responsible for entire car wasn’t not coming on and it was only the air being pushed into the front of vehicle by having it in motion that was turning the fan thus making the vehicle blow cold air when in motion and keeping the engine cooled. No warning lights were coming on and staying on.

Unknown car has moved forward into drive while on park lock not working.

Drivers seat, unsafe movement wall car in motion, and when applying brake. Seat lever at times constantly drains battery rear and forward motion sensor applies brakes when nothing obstructing rear seat belts have made it difficult to either secure or unsecure passengers door locks on driver side need to go around through passenger to unlock. We have taken in the gate to be fixed because the rear gate hatch comes down on its own so many issues with this vehicle. After getting gas, I went to start my car and it started malfunctioning like it was having an electrical shortage. The battery was jumped off and it started like normal. The battery, alternator, & starter were tested and everything checked out, except the battery wasnt charged.

My 2020 Nissan sport braked while I was driving and then lost power completely and would not accelerate no matter how much or how long I pressed the gas pedal. This occurred for no reason and there was no obstacle in front of the vehicle. This is a very serious problem and could cause a serious accident. A message appeared in the instrumental panel saying “warning malfunction” and the symbol of two cars colliding appeared.

Usb port in console caught fire while vehicle was parked total loss.

The sunroof is and side of the front window leak and caused the electrical system to fault. It happened in my 2017 Rogue and again in my 2020. I have had it fixed twice and it still does it. They say it’s from dirt but as soon as they ran diagnostics and cleaned it out it leaks again. I have photos and documentation of both visits to the dealership and pics of the leaking.
