Parked my vehicle, opened the back hatch to check for shopping bags, closed the back hatch using the automatic button. While in the store, I was called to the front. A worker reported that my window in my hatch just "popped. " he could hear the glass break and when I arrived it was still making a crackling noise. Camera footage reviewed, no one was near my car to have broken it.
Went out to grab something for the Rogue and noticed the rear windshield was blown out from the inside. Glass was all over outside of the vehicle. The vehicle sat overnight and had not been used for 10 hours before it was seen. [xxx] left a half hour before and didn’t see any damage. The power liftgate has closed a couple of times without being prompted. (no one has pushed the button inside the car, or on the door. No one is kicking under the car. No one is pushing the button on the key fob) after injuring 2 of my family members, we are now very cautious when using the liftgate. One person must be standing under the liftgate to make sure it doesn't close umprompted and hurt anyone. (I have notified Nissan and the NHTSA about the 2 incidents with injuries, both required medical care). So she was not injured. But we are all scared of this car. . . But it is our only source of transportation. And her cosmetology case is massive and will only fit in the trunk. On 9/30/2026, I was dropping my daughter off at cosmetology school and she was retreiving her cosmetology case from the trunk when the liftgate started closing on her - unprompted. I have this on cell phone video. (just like I have dash cam of the incident when I was knocked unconscious by the liftgate and now have a traumatic brain injury and neck injury). Luckily- we were paying very close attention and we pushed the liftgate back up after it started closing on my daughter.
The power liftgate in my 2026 Nissan Rogue platinum continues to close unprompted. There have been 2 injuries (one minor and one significant). And 2 near misses. This is the 2nd near miss. On 9/15/2026, around 2pm (timestamp - according to dash cam footage) my daughter was loading a small wagon and tote in the back of the car. We were transporting belongings to her father who is in a long term care facility with dementia. After the previous injuries from the liftgate, we now ensure 2 people are at the back of the car so one can intervene if the liftgate starts to close. She had loaded the late tote when the liftgate started closing umprompted. I was able to stop it from hitting her becuase I was standing guard. I have filed complaints with Nissan and the NHTSA for the incidents. We have no other means of transportation or we would not use this car.
I am reporting a serious safety incident involving the powered rear liftgate of my 2026 Nissan Rogue platinum. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at approximately 9 am, I was helping my daughter unload her cosmetology case at the sherman oaks galleria. The rear liftgate was open. We were both standing behind the vehicle, facing away from it toward her cosmetology case (which had become unlatched so we were fixing it). No one pressed a button on the liftgate, the key fob, or inside the vehicle to initiate closure. Neither of us intentionally activated the hands-free liftgate sensor. The liftgate began closing and struck the back of my head. It did not reverse upon contacting me and continued pushing downward. My daughter intervened to raise the liftgate by hitting the button. (audio of incident is preserved on dash cam) an er visit revealed healed injury with occipital hematoma. I experienced a concussion and neck injury from the lift gate. Followed up with neurology - I was dx with post concussion syndrome and post concussive headaches. And whiplash. I continue to have headaches, light sensitivity, brain fog and very bad neck pain. Please investigate this. *written with help of chat bc my head hurts and I’m foggy. But my daughter and I both read over this report and it’s correct.
I picked up my adult daughter from the lax on August 5th at 9:00am. I was in the driver’s seat and pushed the button to open the liftgate, so she could load her luggage. As she was loading her luggage, the power liftgate closed on her - unprompted. It hit her in the back of the head. (across the back, near the base of her skull) she yelled at me for "closing the trunk on her head" but I did not hit any button. She had a really bad headache for an hour or so, but later that evening and the next day, she developed severe back of the head and neck pain. We took her to a emergency clinic the next morning on 8/6/26 and the physician gave her medicine (injection and prescription) for severe acute headache and cervical paraspinal muscle spasm. He told her to follow up with neurology bc she may have trigemenal neuralgia. We did not put the pieces together (that the liftgate was the source of her pain) until later. . . After the liftgate knocked me unconscious on 9/1 and I now have a traumatic brain injury and neck injury.
My car was sitting in a parking lot facing the south. It was over 100 degrees that day. I had a front window shade in the front window, and both front windows were down about 2 inches. I went to my car to grab something around 1:30pm and all was fine. When I cam back around 2:45 pm, the back window was shattered, with small pieces of glass laying on the ground. I called the local Nissan dealer, and they told me to bring it in so they could look at it. I taped it up and drove it to the dealer. They looked it over and could see that the glass had blown out. The mechanic that looked it over, said that based on the glass pressing out and not inward (rock or something hitting it, makes the glass press inward). The dealership put in a warranty claim on Friday and finally found out it was approved on Tuesday. The mechanic ordered the glass to be shipped overnight on Friday. 10 days later I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called them, and they didnt have the glass yet, and didnt know why. So they called Nissan to figure why, and were told, they have the glass on hand, but not enough to ship any out yet. So its been 12 days and I still cant drive my car.
Rear glass exploded over night as vehicle was parked.
Sunroof exploded would not go into drive or neutral lost all power going 75mph going down highway brake went all the way down to floor and shuts off wouldn’t start back up for about 5 min was stuck in reverse world not go into drive until I shutdown vehicle and waited a few minutes on a busy street and then today lock/unlock button was opening and locking while driving down street and screen went blank then lost power about 10 min later started right back up only had 2300 miles on it.
As I was parked for about 10 minutes sitting and not moving, the rear windshield spontaneously imploded.
The rear view mirror shakes when driving on bumpy roads or uneven roads. The rear part of the car shimmies. The vehicle is available for inspection. I believe it’s a safety issue yes, the issue has been confirmed by dealership unknown if the rear view mirror has been inspected by the manufacturer the issues were noticed a few days after purchasing the vehicle.
