Three days before the accident, I experienced an unusual issue with the vehicle. When I pressed the brake pedal to start the vehicle, I heard an unusual sound that I had not normally heard when starting the car. It was heard from the outside of my car and as well as I felt it on brakes as I pressed it. My neighbor was present and advised me to turn the vehicle off and restart it. After I turned the vehicle off and restarted it, the sound was no longer present. Three days later, while driving the vehicle, I attempted to apply the brakes to slow/stop, but the vehicle did not respond as expected. I pressed the brake pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle but was unable to stop, resulting in a collision. Because of the unusual sound that occurred while pressing the brake pedal three days earlier and the subsequent loss of braking ability during the accident, I am concerned that there may have been a malfunction involving the vehicle's braking system or a related component. The accident was reported to law enforcement, and the vehicle sustained significant damage. My insurance company subsequently determined that the vehicle was a total loss. I am submitting this complaint so that the incident and the earlier warning sign can be documented and reviewed by NHTSA as a potential vehicle safety issue.
1 unknown. I suspect a malfunction involving the electronic gear-selection/shift-control system or transmission control system. I personally placed the vehicle in park while the engine was running. After I exited the vehicle and was away from it, the vehicle moved on its own. When I returned after hearing the impact, the gear selector was no longer in park and was in another position. The vehicle and relevant electronic systems are available for inspection. 2 the vehicle was parked on a steep hill. I had personally placed the vehicle in park and exited it with my daughter. While I was inside my home, the vehicle moved without my knowledge or intentional input and struck my garage. The vehicle was running and was my spouse was still in the car when the movement occurred. The unexpected movement created a risk of the vehicle striking a person, entering a roadway, or causing a more serious crash or injury. 3 no. The incident has not yet been independently reproduced or confirmed. The vehicle needs to be inspected to determine why it moved after I placed it in park. 4 no not yet 5 no known warning lamps, messages, or symptoms occurred before the incident. The vehicle appeared to be operating normally. I had no warning that it would leave park or move.
1. On xxx (clear ), while parking a hertz rental Nissan Rogue at a hotel parking lot in [xxx], the vehicle suddenly and violently accelerated forward without warning. Brake pedal application was ineffective. The vehicle jumped a stone barrier and sustained damage. I was terrified and sustained minor injuries. 2. This vehicle is equipped with the kr15ddt engine, which is the subject of NHTSA recall 26v081/26v080 for electronic throttle body gear fracture. The reported failure mode—low?speed unintended acceleration and loss of braking—matches my experience exactly. The primary suspected failure is the electronic throttle body (etc) and/or engine control system, as the engine produced uncontrolled power despite my foot on the brake. The braking system also failed to respond. 3. Although this vehicle's VIN is not currently listed under an open recall, known serious safety defects within the same engine family cannot be ruled out. Prior to renting this vehicle to us hertz did not provide any evidence that they performed (pdi) or any other safety checks to ensure the vehicle was free from hazardous conditions. They also never informed us of any potential risks associated with this engine. I have repeatedly requested damage reports and itemized repair bills from hertz, but they have consistently refused to provide any such documentation. Requests : 1. Include this vehicle in the ongoing defect investigation of kr15ddt engines to prevent further safety risks to drivers and the public. 2. Subpoena hertz’s complete maintenance and service records for this vehicle to determine whether it was properly repaired and compliant with safety standards before being rented out. 3. Obtain the official damage assessment and repair documentation to establish the true cause of this incident—a routine parking maneuver that unexpectedly turned into a dangerous crash. We don't want anyone else to encounter similar safety incidents. Please contact me via email. Tks information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information a.
I am reporting a recurring safety issue with the vehicle’s auto engine stop/start system. When the vehicle comes to a stop, the engine sometimes shuts off normally (other time only the auto-brakes engage, but engine stays on), but then the system behaves unpredictably. The engine attempts to restart with a violent jolt, causing the entire vehicle to shake. This occurs even when I am fully stopped with my foot on the brake. It feels like the vehicle is trying to lurch forward or restart against resistance. The issue is repeatable, happens in normal driving conditions, and creates a safety concern because the sudden jolt can startle the driver, cause unintended movement, or lead to loss of control in traffic. I believe this may indicate a defect in the auto?engine?stop system, engine mounts, starter system, or related control modules. Please investigate, as other owners may be experiencing the same unsafe behavior.
