1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2014 Nissan Sentra

Transmission slipping, hesitating, and lunging. Some times causes sudden acceleration or deceleration, almost causing accidents. Car is also starting to make abnormal sounds from time to time, which started when the transmission issues started. Sometimes the car has even tried to lunge forward when brake is applied in a stopped position. This transmission was already changed once because original owner complained of lack of acceleration. The car only has 50k on it. Taking it to Nissan service center this weekend! but I can imagine what I'm going to hear.

8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2008 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

I was stopped at a redlight behind about 3 other cards. When the light changed to green I began to remove my foot from the brake when the car suddenly jolted forward at a high speed. I had the brake pedal to the floor but the car did not stop. I maneuvered myself all over the road to avoid pedestrians and oncoming traffic at the intersection. I was able to avoid one head-on collision that only damaged the mirrors as we passed by each other. I went onto the sidewalk taking out several feet of cyclone fence. The fence post nearly punctured the front windshield (lucky) and damaged the hood and other parts of the vehicle as it bounced off. The car came to a stop as quickly as it began. The Nissan "engineer" could find no cause the unintended acceleration. I travel this road everyday. This never happened before. I was not charged by the police who said," I can't believe you pulled this off". I sent a complaint to Nissan and to consumer products safety but I did not hear about fhsa until Toyota began having the same problem. If there was a problem with the car, Nissan denied it. Based on an interview with an electronics engineer that I heard on npr, isn't is possible these accelerations are extraneous? this person claims cells phones and other electronic devices can cause this. I was less than 1 mile from a verizon cellphone tower. Who knows? maybe he is right and the location of the initial unintended acceleration may be work investigating.

9 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/25/2006

I just want to add a report of (so-called) sudden acceleration syndrome that occurred to me on thanksgiving day of November 2007 then again within a month or two after the Nissan dealer said it was due to a badly positioned floor mat. The second time it happened, the dealer said it was a "dirty throttle" that required $75 "throttle service," -- a cleaning -- to which I readily consented. The acceleration problem hasn't reoccurred (knock on wood). In both instances, the car sped forward when my foot was off the brake so quickly I barely had time to react. Fortunately, I did not have an accident or cause one. I drive a 2004 Nissan Sentra, which I maintain regularly. The Nissan manual states that throttle service should be regularly performed (something I had never heard of before) but not that neglecting to do so could cause the car to accelerate suddenly. This was not mild acceleration -- the speed increased alarmingly until I put the car in neutral then hit brakes (I instinctively tried braking first, which caused the engine to race) and pulled over to collect myself. This isn't easy with power steering.
