1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

My husband could have been killed. We had no knowledge of any recalls. Two days ago my husband was getting in the truck and all of a sudden smoke started coming from the dash board and a fire was starting. He immediately ran in the truck stop store and was able to get a fire extinguisher. Another customer unhooked the battery as my husband distinguished the fire. The truck will not start and when trying to test it out by re-attaching the battery the smoke began again. We are now without a vehicle and had to get the truck towed home.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

This is the second time in over several months that my driver side drive axle for my 4x4 has pulled its self out. It was fixed once on my dime and is now going to be fixed on my dime again it is a dangerous failure that could cause my suspension to lock up an rip my wheel off then leading to a serious accident. It needs to be addressed and the NHTSA has done nothing to pursue this. Another problem that Nissan will not cover is the rear axle seals that blow out due to a faulty design which may also lead to a serious accident, they will not address any of these issues under a recall an there are thousands of people that are suffering from these issues from 04-010 for the axle seals and model years 04-08 for the axle shaft pulling out from the 4x4 causing serious damage to internal and external parts. This needs to be addressed an the NHTSA is doing nothing about it.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I was using my four wheel drive when I noticed a loud clunk and found that my axle had popped out of the front differential. I am among over 1000s of Titan owners with this same issue that Nissan knows about and has caused multiple failures in our trucks. It also caused a failure in mine. The have known about this issue for years now and changed there part in 07 from the original number 38500-8s102 to the new product number 38500-8s11b truck is a Nissan Titan 2004 se king cab 4wd.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2011

Failure of front control arms, according to Nissan webiste (many other vehicles were recalled for same, not mine) this could result in collision. Mechanic stated the wheel would come off with failure. Nissan dealership discovered the weld was failing and told me they had to be replaced, but that while 1800+ vehicles were shown to be affected by this issue, my VIN number was not on list. Nissan needs to expand their recall.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2009

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan and have had it for about 4 years. There is 51000 miles on it and around 22,000 miles I put a lift on it. Everything was fine with the truck until I got around the 35,000 mile range. When I would drive the truck I would notice loud noises coming from the front end. I took it to my Nissan dealership 2 or 3 times and they said that everything was fine and that it was just my suspension that was making the noise. Now it has been about 15,000 miles later and I noticed a leak coming from around the front axle so I took it back and they told me that my front differential needed to be replaced. They told me that it would cost $2300 to fix it. They also told me that they see this problem alot with Nissan Titans. When I got home I did a little research and found close to 100 people that had the same problem. I feel that Nissan should be the one to take care of the problem.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2009

Turning steering wheel. Steering rack pulled apart. Total loss of power assisted steering and complete steering fluid loss. When fluid loss occurred it sprayed all the fluid to the left saturating inside brake pad and rotor. No action taken yet just occured. Part still on truck.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2004

Multiple brake and steering shudder problems with 2004 Titan Nissan se crew cab truck, dealer makes mfg suggested repairs but shudder returns creating safety worries and fear of losing control of vehicle. Moreover, transmission coolant line replaced wherein dealer informs me that blowout could lead to failure. Front tires excessive wear, vibration and shudder with or without brake application. Headlight switch design flawed, easily turned off when turn stalk activated or lights are dimmed from high to low beam. All the above problems occured and still are occuring within first 3500 miles!!.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2004

My wife and I were test driving a new Nissan 2004 Titan 4 door pick up at Nissan of statesville, nc. We both drove the vehicle and noticed what we considered an excessive amount of play in the stering wheel. The salesperson, who was riding in the back seat, said that was normal. Upon making the final turn from us highway 70 into the dealers lot a pop was heard and all loss of stering ocurred. The stearing wheel was free wheeling with no directional control whatsoever. In other words, you could spin it aroun like a top, with no stops. The vehicle was was brought to a stop without any damage. Should this occur with any speed, death could easily be the result. Hopefully this was a once only occurance with Nissan trucks. We are still shaken by this event. The next page on this form requires me state that an event ocurred after purchasing the vehicle. We of course did not purchase the vehicle. Thank you.
