1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

I own a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup which I drive mainly in the winter due to my job requiring me to go into work in every snow storm. I have only 128,000 mi on my truck. The truck sits in the summer to save on gas. After the truck sat for three months this summer had to change a leaky oil pan from rust. Once that was fixed I took it out to ready it for inspection. While driving came to a stop sign brake pedal went to floor. Tried pumping pedal and had no brakes at all. Engaged the e brake and had very little yet next to no stopping from that. Ended up constantly pumping brakes with no secondary circuit engaging. I continued to go through 2 more stop signs before I was able to coast to a stop. Luckily it was later at night and there wasn't many cars on the road or I would have been in a bad accident. After getting the truck towed home I had pulled the left front inner fender liner out to discover 2 junction blocks with 3 lines coming in and going out. All three lines had burst at the same time causing me to loose all brakes. I took a picture of this so everyone can see. Nissan should provide an extra covering or something to keep the road salt from getting to these lines because as these trucks get older I am sure people will experience the same thing as me but, may not be as lucky to avoid a bad crash.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The truck stalled out no power had to crash into shoulder of road and embankment. Glad we survived the bumpy crash, I just had suspension work done that saved us. We read the ipdm board or ecm relay is bad and causes this stalling to happen. Part number for ecm relay 284b7-cw29.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I am an a. S. E. Certified technician, and have discovered the rear axle seals on both sides of the vehicle are leaking , in which can cause fluid to be slung on to brake linings , also if too much leaks can lead to differential lock up .

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

Axle seal failure resulting in oil on the inside of both rear wheels and oil soaking rear brakes rendering rear brakes useless.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2012

Rear axel seal is leaking for the third time, which can compromise the rear brakes with axel fluid. Nissan made the first repair at 30,000 miles under warranty. I paid for parts and made repairs myself the second time. Now at the third I have contacted Nissan consumer affairs, and they have refused, with no explanation, to help with this repair, even though they issued an internal service bulletin in 2010, to replace the complete axel with bearing and seal. So Nissan is aware that they have an issue with the early model Titans. I guess they are waiting for someone to be seriously injured or die before they address this issue.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

Driving north on the highway @ 70mph, vehicle backfired and engine shut down, no power steering or brakes. Moved vehicle off the highway, cranked but would not start. Left vehicle for the day and returned and replaced a recalled (but known good replacement) ecm relay and vehicle started and ran correctly but showed ses light and code showed p0335 crk pos sensor. This vehicle had a catastrophic failure while driving which represented a serious hazard to both the driver and surrounding vehicles should the driver has panicked in this situation and heavy traffic. To date the vehicle is a Nissan facility and still has not been repaired at great expense and inconvenience to the owner.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

2005 Nissan Titan. Consumer had recall work for brake judder. The repairs were done even though the consumer was not experiencing any problems. Sometime after the recall repair, the vehicle began to make noises . The consumer stated he began to experience occasional shuttering in the front wheels when he applied the brake. The consumer stated the dealer refused to honor the warranty. The consumer stated he has continued to experience brake problems to the point where the brakes would not work. There were several incidents, where the consumer ran several stop signs and into the intersection. Updated 03/1011 the left front brake engaged with greater intensity than the other brakes, which caused the left front brake to grab during hard braking. The consumer stated the problem only seemed to occur with hard braking during hazardous road conditions. Updated 05/19/11 .

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

Rear axle seal leaking, it is leaking so bad that it is all over my rear passenger side brakes. I noticed the brakes slipping yesterday when I trying to stop on the highway. 05 Nissan Titan.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2010

Truck will not brake quickly. I have had to run off the road multiple times due to cars in front of me braking. Truck has trouble slowing down.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

I own a 2005 Nissan Titan king cab, which I purchased it in November of 2005. After, approximately 30days of ownership and 500 miles of travel; the front brakes began to experience complications (they would shudder while braking and create an unreasonable amount of brake dust. ) I quickly return to my local dealership where I purchased it, for servicing. The Nissan dealership repaired the rotors. During the summer of 2006, I began to notice a musty odor emitting from the floor and carpeting of the passenger side. During a routine oil change and requested the mechanic to inspect the truck for the cause of the odor. They couldn't locate the source of the odor. I returned the truck to the dealership for the same problem on several other occasions, during the summer of 2007 odor reappeared; they replaced the rubber gasket around door windows in hopes of resolving the issue. Meanwhile the front brakes rotors were replaced again and the gauges (fuel, oil, tach ,voltmeter) acting erratically. The dealership repaired the brakes under my extended warranty & prorated my purchase of a new Nissan auto battery; according to service dept. This was the cause of the gauges malfunction. Then again in2008, I was told the brakes were no longer under warranty and that the musty odor was caused by water coming into the cabin via a small void in the window sealant around the "factory installed windshield upon hearing this, I chose to take my truck to another mechanic due to Nissan mechanic inability to resolve the brake issue & locate the source of the water. This year 2009, the rear end was repaired due the seals leaking on the driver's side and preventive replacement on the passenger seals. However, a few old issues along with new ones that still exist. My new mechanic told me the source of the water & odor issue is the a/c condenser leaking into the cabin, the blinking air bag indicator light was due to a harness needing replacing in the rear doors.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. While driving 25 mph during clear weather conditions the electric brakes control stopped working. He state the vehicle has not been repaired. He referenced recall NHTSA campaign id number: 07e046000 (equipment). The contact also stated the right rear door opens in cold weather conditions while driving. He stated the problem with the door was repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 48000 and the current mileage was 57,000. Vwb.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2009

Multiple failures of right rear axle seal. Failures at mileages of 42186/86082/106492/131033. Same parts replaced 43252-7s200 rear axle seal, 43070-7s200 rear spacer, 40210-7s210 axle bearing. Axle fluid drains directly on to brake causing loss of function on right rear wheel. Also has caused possible premature shock absorber wear.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2009

I purchased a new Nissan Titan from alan kurth dealership minot, nd. May of 2005. Within the year I asked several times about the "strange" braking experience. I noticed some vibration from the front brakes that also vibrated the steering column. I was told that this was normal on a Titan heavy duty truck . I am not a mechanic and took their word. That dealership went out of business shortly thereafter and the only other Nissan dealer was in bismark, a long way from where I lived at the time. I did take it to that dealer, bismark Honda-Nissan-Hyundai in July of 2006 in response to a recall about another issue. Nothing was mentioned by them about any problem with the brakes. The truck was not driven that much, currently has less than 30,000 miles and the vibration has become worse and worse once I brought the vehicle to florida last fall to the point that I took it to my mechanic. I was told then after they inspected the truck on April 23rd. 2009 that Nissan had identified a major problem with the brakes on this model called brake judder he suggested I call Nissan to see how they were managing the problem. I telephoned Nissan consumer office on April 24th and spoke with andy who opened a case file and that number is 6477694. He said I would have to begin with the local dealer to have them inspect the truck so I contacted maroone Nissan in ft lauderdale and took the truck in on April 27, 2009. I dealt with the assistant service manager. When they had finally finished with their inspection he told me that "Nissan would not provide a courtesy repair since they had initially extended the warranty expired in 2008. I had researched the issue and found the following that Nissan failed to provide. 1. The issue was sent out to all Nissan service managers on March 16, 2005. The repairs were not made prior to my purchase. 2. They were directed to supply a "legible photocopy" about the warranty extension. They did not. This was detailed in Nissan advisory nnawb/05-01.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

Rear axle seal leak, had to replaced seal and rear brakes.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the abs warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was jerking and lost proper braking functionality. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the braking system was reset. Additionally, the fuel gauge was inoperable causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 10v074000 (fuel system, other) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2008

My vehicle is experiencing violent shaking of the steering wheel under braking. Nissan has identified that 2004 and early 2005 Titans were built with brake rotors that are too small, resulting in the rotors warping due to overheating. Nissan calls this issue brake juddering and has issued three technical service bulletins regarding fixing the problem by installing an upgraded (bigger rotors) brake kit. Nissan extended the brake warranty for this issue to 36 months/36,000miles. I am under the mileage limit (31,000) but have exceeded the time limit by one month. This is a serious safety issue and I feel they need to be willing to replace the rotors for any vehicle originally equipped with the undersized rotors. I have taken the vehicle to my local Nissan service department and they have confirmed that my rotors are warped and recommend replacement.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2008

Axle seals are leaking causing grease to cover the rear brake assembly resulting in a safety concern due to reduced brake power. Brakes are warping again! manufacturer has issued a TSB but a recall should be directed.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2008

I believe that the Nissan Titans have a safety issue with their brakes. I purchased the truck new in 2005 with 14 miles showing on the odometer. After the first year of ownership I noticed that the brake pedal pulsated a lot when applying the brakes. I never leave my foot on or ride the brake pedal nor do I use the brakes excessively, most of the miles on the vehicle are highway miles because the truck is used mostly for vacation purposes. I do however tow a small 6 by 12 foot box trailer with 4 bicycles in it, which makes for a light load. It has continued to progress and become more pronounced as the vehicle ages. At around 13,000 miles the brakes sometimes grab or would not stop with out applying excessive force to the brake pedal much more than when the vehicle was new, this would bring the truck to a shaking, rough or sometimes tire squealing stop. At 13,300 I took the vehicle to a dealership to see if they could correct this problem, they said they could try machining the rotors for around $440 or replace the rotors which would cost quite a bit more, however the repair would not be covered under the warranty. The truck still has the same problem with 14,991 miles on the odometer. I feel if there is a problem with the rotors it is a safety issue and it should be covered by the warranty. This is the only vehicle out of about 10 new vehicles that I purchased which has brake problems.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2005

Front brake judder when hard braking occurs. Vehicle steering wheel pulls in different directions. Fixed by dealer twice for after multiple complaints (warranty) once by me out of my own pocket. At 55,000 and three sets of brakes the judder is coming back again for the 4th time.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2005

Front brake shudder - less than 4000 miles - reviewed many complaints on NHTSA site of exact same problem - will contact dealer and play the game that everyone else seems to have to play - constant trips to dealer for repair/replacement of rotor. Would save serious grief on all parties if recall was simply issued and situation fixed by replacing equipment that works.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2005

Although I haven't had an "incident" yet, I worry about it everyday. My 2005 Nissan Titan has the worst brakes that I've ever had in a vehicle. The brake pedal goes to the floor on every stop. Sometimes while the brake pedal is depressed it "skips" and it feels like the brakes release then grab again. This truck was meant to tow up to 9,000lbs, but when I towed about 4,000 and tried to stop, I almost ran into someone. The brakes are horrible without towing and beyond acceptable towing any weight. Since that happened, I have yet to tow anything else, I'm afraid the truck won't stop. I've taken it to the dealer multiple times and they acknowledge the brakes aren't "what they should be" but there's nothing that they can do because Nissan hasn't addressed the problem. I'm hoping that this problem could be locked into. The dealer also told me that the Nissan armada has the same brakes and the same problems. Thank you as far as the incident date, I'm just using the first date that I can remember realizing the problem.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

2005 Titan developed problems with the brakes. While braking the steering wheel would shake. The dealer explained that this was due to the way the rotors dispersed heat which caused them to warp.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Brake trouble/per Nissan repair department no permenant fix and I would need to bring the truck in every 2500-4500 miles or whenever problem occuers to have brakes repaired.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2005

Low brake pedal since delivery. Pedal "pumps up" with frequent use and fades to floor with infrequent use (ie; highway driving. Pedal goes to floor with firm application of brakes.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2005

Brakes vibrating worped rotors. This is a mojor engineering oversite. The brake system is not robust enough for the truck. It is unsafe and irritating!!.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2005

2005 Nissan Titan with a host of serious issues, of course there was the brake problem, radio wouldn't shut off and the air conditioning was weak. Then the tires were bald at 25k the latest problem is a rattling of the engine valves, took it the dealer and the acknowledged the noise but said there was nothing they could do until it tripped a warning light.
