I took my Titan into the dealership due to a knocking sound in the motor. The same day Nissan service called me and said the motor has to be replaced, that the know is coming from the crankshaft. I have 112,000 miles on my truck and have completed every service required without question at the dealership purchased from. There is no way a diesel motor crank should brake at 112,000 miles. I have contacted Nissan customer affairs and am awaiting a reply, however after reading several forums concerning the same failure problem, I decided to voice my complaint at a higher level. I have also have had the power steering system replaced twice under warranty due to power steering failure. Nissan has stated the repair cost under warranty would be approximately $33,000. I might as well as purchase two of these at the price it will cost me to fix.
I was driving down the freeway at 70mph, my truck lost power, I was in the fast lane I nearly missed a car due to my truck losing power, I pulled off to the shoulder. I noticed a knocking sound coming from my engine bay, no check engine messages appeared on my dashboard. I turned my engine off because of the noise, and had my car towed home. I have a friend who is a diesel mechanic at a Nissan dealership look at my truck and was told the engine needs to be replaced.
Me and two guys that work with me were cruising down the interstate at 70 mph and with no warning the crankshaft broke. Lost all power, engine sounded like it was coming apart and almost caused me to be rear ended by a 18 wheeler.
Was driving down the highway at 65 mph truck started shaking I was stopping for a red light. As soon as I came to. A stop the truck started knocking shaking even worse I was barely able to get it off the road. Had truck towed to a Nissan dealer they said crankshaft broke.
The engine started to make strange noise that sound like piston failure. I took the truck to boulder Nissan in colorado. They diagnosed and confirmed scoring/cylinder wall damage in cylinder #7. This is apparently a known issue for the 5. 6l v8 and there is a Nissan bulletin ntb19-057. The Nissan bulliten recommends replacing the short block and I was quoted $21969. 60, which is more the current value of the vehicle. My truck has 113k miles, all maintenance has been completed as recommend. I did file a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs the case #50592140. However, since my truck is no longer under warranty they would not pay for repairs. This issue with this process is since this failure is a known issue which would lead to complete engine failure, why would Nissan not inspect these engines when they are at the dealer for service? I was told by the dealer they have seen this happen to vehicles with as little as 14k miles on them. Reading other complaints about truck on the NHTSA website it seems there are major issues with this engine which would lead to safety issues when these engines fail while in use on roads and highways. Plus was is available on the NHTSA website only represents a small number of actual vehicle owners, as I found even more in Nissan forums and youtube. Please hold Nissan accountable for a known issue on the 5. 6l engines.
While driving down the highway it started to feel like the pavement was warped so we changed lanes and the shaking got violently worse. Put the truck into neutral and drifted down the shoulder hoping to get to a safe place and prevent any further damage. Who knows what kind of pileup could have happened if the engine had seized like it has done to others. There were no engine codes to warn us. Ended up being stranded around a sharp bend with vehicles and tractor trailers scarily flying by us. Truck is currently sitting at montgomeryville Nissan in PA. They want $2200 to tear down the engine and diagnose. There are metal chunks in the oil pan so it clearly needs a new engine. I don’t trust Nissan to inspect their own equipment especially with the known failures with this engine. Diesels are supposed to be the strongest engines you can buy. This truck only has 43,000 miles on it. Please help.
I was driving normally and the card just stopped working one of the crankshaft is damaged and damage motor stuff.
Driving down interstate the reduced engine light came on then engine turned off , no signs of issues prior. Luckily I was able to controlmthe vehicle to pull off the road into the grass. Had towed to Nissan in vissalia, California and they have to replace engine due to crankshaft issue and bearings found in oil pan. Currently awaiting warranty approval as it will cost over $21,000 to be fixed.
At 127,000 miles my crank shaft broke into driving down the road, Nissan USA would not cover engine damage under warranty, was quoted 26,000 dollars for a new engine from Nissan service department and joe machens Nissan located in columbia missouri, truck sat until I could cover cost for a used engine from a junk yard, after everything installed cost for replacement engine was 11,000 dollars.
Broken crankshaft at 64000 miles. Vehicle is equipped 5. 0 cummins turbo diesel. Problem diagnosed and confirmed at dealership. No warning indicators came on just loud knock followed by immediate loss of engine power while on the highway traveling at 60 mph leaving me stranded on the side of the road with little cell reception. I have been made aware that this an ongoing problem regarding this engine and that there is an open investigation being done by robert caple case # pe23020.
The truck's engine died while traveling down the highway around 60 mph. I lost all power and struggled to pull to the side of the road avoiding traffic. There were no warning lights or engine lights before the truck died. There was only a slight vibration and loss of power. Once I stopped on the side of the road smoke started coming out from under the hood. The truck has been maintained well and taken care of and has 59,000 miles on it. I was told by a Nissan mechanic that the motor is locked up because of a broken crank, and they are still trying to see what happened with the electrical wiring that caused the fire. The truck is out of warranty and they informed me that a new motor would cost upwards of $25,000 dollars.
I was driving about 55 miles an hour truck started shaking from engine and then turned off no check engine light. Shop told me motor is blown with only 50k miles. Almost wreaked barley got off road.
I was accelerating onto the highway approaching 60 mph when a loud rapping noise began from the engine with a loss of power and seveare vibration almost causing me to lose control of the truck. Engine lights came on at the same time. I was able to pull over to the shoulder and shut the truck down. It would not restart after that. Dealer indicated snapped crank shaft and a replacement motor would be needed. Truck powertrain was supposed to be covered under the certified pre-owned agreement but they indicated block replacement was not covered however. Truck only has 64,000 miles on it (2017 Titan xd 5. 0-l cummins). Thanks -sean.
On Friday, oct. 6, 2023 I was driving my 2017 Nissan Titan turbo xd that I just purchased in December 2022, it just lost power and stopped on the highway in the dark. I was able to get it to the shoulder and waited 3 hours for a tow truck. This happened on a deserted road in washington state. I was able to get a rental car for the weekend, but the only technician qualified to look at my truck couldn't do so until Wednesday the 11th. The diagnosis was metal shavings in my engine oil, meaning I needed a complete new engine. The cost is $31,400 - and the truck cost me $37,000. Upon doing some research, I have found that the diesel fuel pump, the cp4, that comes in the cummins diesel engine that was put into the Nissan Titans from 2016-2019 was not mean to have us diesel run through it. Only european diesel, which is more lubricated than diesel in the us. This cp4 need for lubrication makes it break apart and seize your engine up when used with us diesel. This is a known issue with the Nissan Titan xd turbo, and Nissan stopped making the truck in 2019 partly because of this issue. There has been no recall on the engine or the truck, and I could have easily been killed or seriously injured when my truck just stopped in the middle of the dark with no warning. No lights came on, nothing. I take meticulous care of my vehicles and as an army captain stationed at fort lewis, am well aware that routine maintenance is imperative. There was nothing that alerted my previous service technicians nor myself as to the danger that this truck contains. It's a ticking time bomb and needs to be taken out of use by Nissan, and their consumers compensated. How long until someone is killed due to the defect?.
I have a 2017 Titan xd that has had catastrophic turbo failures 4 times now on 162,000 miles. Roughly every 40,000 miles which is absolutely ridiculous. They have refused to acknowledge a manufacturing defect at my dealer and at the national level now telling me it will be 13,000$ to fix it again with the same faulty product that I'll have to fix again next year for another$13,000 or worse a fully failed engine and unusable truck. The turbo fails with very little warning, no lights and when the turbos fail it kills the trucks power and makes maneuvering to safety very difficult.
Driving at normal highway speed with my family vehicle shaked violently and stalled while in the middle lane of highway. I was nearly hit and crashed trying to coast to shoulder. I was towed to Nissan dealership and was told crankshaft broken in 2 peices. I’ve done research in this 5. 0 cummins diesel engine and come to find out this is a very common failure due to faulty wiring harness that provides power to injectors. I’ve contacted corporate Nissan to report problem with no help. There is youtube videos on this common unsafe problem.
I received a recall notice back in sept 2019 (19v-495 ). I went to antwerpen Nissan (woodlawn, MD ) and they eroneously closed my recall ticket without completing the work. This was the second time that dealership falsified documents. Antwerpen Nissan said that they didn't see anything wrong with the wire harness. I've been having electrical problems sporadically since 2019. The problems are getting worse. My console / touch screen system is rebooting on its own while I am driving. I am still experiencing loss of power, led driving lights will turn on and off while driving. Draining battery ( was replaced once at the dealership ). Antwerpen of owings mills was the last to investigate this issue. This was just before my factory warrantee expired. They replaced the radio. Electronic issues remained. I phoned Nissan USA and tried working with Nissan rep "chris";. . . Who refused to approve the safety repair. Feb. 2023, antwerpen Nissan owings mills rep. John said that he would re-investigate the safety recall;. . . But at my expense;. . Even though the investigation was initiated prior to the factory warrantee expiring. I need my vehicle to transport me safely to and from the hospital for my cancer treatments / exams. I don't feel safe driving that vehicle,.
Always kept on maintenance and used good quality fuel for life of this Titan. Was driving and started to get a misfire and shutter. The truck eventually shut off and would not crank over. Had towed to a shop and found metal shavings in oil pan. Engine required rotating assembly replaced and block machining. Shop confirmed that this has happened to multiple of this model Titan with this engine.
Crankshaft failed at 42,000 miles and required a new engine to fix. This occured during driving on a highway. Truck was taken to a diesel engine repair center for the diagnosis and repair. There was no engine light warning when it happened.
2017 Nissan Titan with 5. 6ltr endurance motor started knocking at or around 71k miles as with the service bulletin was taken to dealership where it was inspected and found cylinder 7 with scaring as per bulletin with replacement required to fix the cylinder issues is well known down to the years and VIN series affected with out of pocket expense of 11,500. 00 for replacement. Had I been traveling I could of gotten stranded with family somewhere who knows where waiting for repairs this is such a well known issue wheres the recal.
Vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart. Had to get it towed to the dealership. I was informed that it was a fuel issue but once tearing down found the engine to be at fault and had to be replaced. I was lucky it happened in a neighborhood.
My vehicle shut off mid u-turn and could have caused an accident. Brought it to a Nissan dealer and found that the timing chain had dropped and it needed an engine. The rest of the engine was not inspected for further damages since no matter what the engine was needed to be replaced. Vehicle was very maintained and had no warning signs of engine failure.
The truck has a broken crankshaft with only 80 thousand miles on it an when it happen was driving an lost all power to everything including the power steering witch pulled me off the road without control an insurance will not cover because the same thing has happen too many other Titans I added the only email the would send to us below they are trying to hide the fact they sold defective crankshafts in trucks an it coast as much to fix it as it does to buy a whole truck.
We were driving on a local road doing approximately 35 mph when we heard a loud explosion sound and then loud exhaust sound. We stopped immediately and discovered that the front catalytic converter had completely separated/broke off from the exhaust system there was no prior indication of any problem it just broker apart as per pictures. Vehicle is in very good condition. And only has 38,000 miles on it. It was clear that there were defective welds on the catalytic converter as this should not have occurred. Nissan is not taking any responsibility for this. Vehicle has not been repaired as of today and is available for inspection of needed.
On highway leaving stoplight, with no warning truck started shaking. Would not accelerate. Got off highway, luckily and the engine had seized.
Driving down the highway at 70mph, when the engine seized and shut down without warning. Towed to dealership and informed of “internal mechanical failure. ” no warning lights on, truck only has 74,000 miles and Nissan is refusing to assist with repairs as warranty expired two months ago. Hundreds of documented cases of same issue. Stuck with a blown engine that is 30k to fix, truck worth nothing and still have a 3yr note on it.
Crankshaft snapped in half, without warning while 70mph. Nissan refusing to repair, truck only has 73k miles. Regular maintenance performed.
Crankshaft broke in half driving 70mph down the highway without warning. Engine is seized at only 74k miles, Nissan refusing to accept responsibility and assist with repair that costs more than what the truck is worth.
Driving down i40 between exit 57 and exit 47 when my truck started making a bad vibration and horrible noise. It was dark so I could not see if it was smoking or anything coming from the exhaust. Had the truck towed to my dad's house which was closer to mine. Once there we did an initial investigation on what was wrong. After pulling the dip stick and noticing there was metal material on the dip stick, we knew that something had failed in the motor. We then loaded the truck on a trailer and took to my house 50 miles away. I reached out to the dealer ship that I purchased the truck from, "nelson Nissan" in broken arrow, oklahoma. They told me the truck was out of warranty by 1 month on the 5-year warranty but it only has around 98,000 miles. Since purchasing this truck from them I have only done simple maintenance. I have not even changed the tires at this point. I have changed the engine oil and filter, fuel filters, and serviced the truck more than recommended. I reached out to my local dealership and they would not help either without me paying in full. I am a mechanic so I started looking into the problem. I was going to buy a motor to replace, but with them costing over $20,000 and still paying on the truck I have not. I did start to take the motor out, but after seeing all the other trucks failing on forms I am hoping and praying the NHTSA helps with this horrible problem that is affecting several people that have chose to buy these crappy trucks. Thank you for your help.
Truck was just picked up from repair for a bad crankshaft sensor. Not even an hour later, truck seized up and I was stranded in the middle of the road. Broken crankshaft at 52k miles.
Vehicle is terrible. Truck is in the shop every 2-3 months due to engine or electrical issues and constantly causing me hundreds if not thousands of dollars every time. I will never buy a Nissan product ever again.
Blown engine, failed crankshaft. Driven under normal operating conditions.
I was driving from san antonio texas to tulsa oklahoma for work when I heard a ticking sound. So I instantly pulled over and checked under the hood to see if I could determine the problem. I couldn’t determine the problem so I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Nissan dealership (fenton Nissan - mc alester, ok). The following day they called me back to tell me the engine is blown and the crank is broken. After researching the past couple days this seems to be a consistent problem with the Nissan Titan xd 5. 0 cummins. I am extremely diligent with the maintenance of my truck.
The problem comes from the turbo charger it made the car to jerk back for, it loses power an the pick up the power in a very strong way that if I have to stop it will be problem. Code p226c turbocharger boost control 'a' slow response.
