The rear differential went out and this seems to be a very common problem on this make of vehicle. There should be an investigation and recall on this vehicle.
On a recall for a faulty ecm (engine control module). The vehicle stalled and would not start again, had it towed to dealer. Nissan covered this ecm. During the repair the mechanic noted that the rear axle seals were leaking and recommended that they be repaired as soon as possible. The cost to repair was estimated at $750. 00. While web surfing for the repair process for the seals I ran across many complaints concerning this problem with the Nissan Titan including models from 2004 to present (2012). Based on the feedback from other Titan owners, this is a common flaw with the vehicle and a costly one at that. Also this is the first time I have ever witnessed rear axle seals failing in a vehicle. Most seem to last the life time of the vehicle. I believe this is a manufacture's responsiblity due to a defective parts creating an unsafe and useless means of transportation.
Exactly like the frequent problem with the 2005 Nissan pathfinder and xterra, the radiator failed causing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid.
After a freeze during the night, I went to open the driver side door. The door latch cable snapped the first time I tried it. This now poses a hazard if in the case of an emergency I cannot open the driver's door.
Was driving our 2005 Nissan Titan approximatley 15 mph when the rear differential failed. We were 30 seconds from getting on a major interstate. There was a loud "pop" sound and the truck jerked and seemed to slip out of gear and locked up. The truck was barely driveable. Our mechanic determined that it was the rear differential. When he called Nissan to order the parts to rebuild it, he was told by the Nissan parts distributor that because of "previous problems" with the differential, they only sell the entire differential part, not the individual components, the part alone was $2900. Our entire bill was $3800, and ofcourse we are out of warranty. We conducted research on this issue and found 80 complaints on this NHTSA website, countless consumer complaints on various websites, and even some court cases. Nissan clearly knows about this potentially life-threatening issue in the 2004 and 2005 models and has done nothing about it to protect consumers. We will be pursuing this with Nissan and will be taking legal action if neccesary. Not sure why nothing has been done about this especially given all the complaints out there. Nhtsa should look into this issue as this defect is very dangerous and could cause a fatal accident (if it hasn't already). Shame on you Nissan.
2005 Nissan Titan king cab 2x4 leaking oil from both side of the axle. Problem axle seak failure. Upon taking the truck into the dealership for checkup and they quoted me for about $1700. 00 in repairs. As per there TSB they will replace both axle seals and axle "TSB ntb10-032" if the seals fail on most of the Titan's shouldn't Nissan do a recall on this plus when I was there the service man stated that there TSB says to replace both axle which drives up the cost instead of just replacing the axle seal.
2005 Nissan Titan both rear axle seal are leaking axle fluid.
Within a 5 mile range the vehicle started to whine, then clank, then lock-up. Emergency brakes failed and rear differential failed. . . Vehicle was undriveable. This vehicle just hit 100,000 miles. Repair is > 1/5th of vehicle value. This is a very common failure in 2004 Nissan Titans. Very dangerous - especially if towing a trailer (which is what this vehicle is advertised to do).
The rear axle seals are leaking and has caused my rear breaks to slip due to the differential oil getting on my break pads and rotors. This is my second encounter of this problem and Nissan still refuses to do anything about it.
The actuator in the vehicle makes clicking noise in dash after turning the ac/heat from off to on or after shutting the vehicle off.
2006 Nissan Titan se rear left seal leaking fixed under warranty. Now the same issue on the left rear seal is leaking again and also the right rear seal is starting to leak. Based on all my research I have done this seems to be an ongoing issue and should be continued to be covered after the warranty has expired. What are my options. My truck is now at the dealer and I should not have to pay for repairs. My truck has only 88,000 miles.
Winding noise coming out of rear end, rear differential failing, bearings failing.
While traveling to go on a 13 hour drive, all of our engine lights came on and the truck became sluggish. We had truck towed and got a call from dealership saying what happen was muffler/exhaust unit fell off during travel and the unit remaining got so hot it burned out entire part of truck including, ecu, rear right harness, and 3 other things. Cost to fix over $3,000. After paying hefty bill shop manager said this was the 5th Titan in our small town he had same issue with and that he agrees this is the worst place for a unit on a truck and manufacturer should of put other location. I then filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs. They acted like they cared and then 3 weeks later they denied helping me at all saying it was out of warranty. I did research on line and lots of people are having same issue. This is a huge safety concern and I think needs to be recalled and I need to be reimbursed for my repairs. I find it odd that the exhaust manifold also cracked on the truck on the right and left side and Nissan covers that until 80,000 miles.
I was driving on the freeway where the speed limit is 65 mph. I was going that speed when, what I thought was my drive shaft, basically exploded and fell apart whilst I was in motion. I have kept up one all mandatory and basic maintenance work and have never had a problem with it before. Parts flew out from all around my truck and it slammed into a complete stop as if I had made impact into something. Passing vehicles had to stay clear of the debris an I had to push my truck into the emergency lane. Highway patrol asked if I was alright and I stated to have already had a tow truck on its way. When my truck was towed to the shop they said the rear end actually gave way and broke, including the drive shaft which snapped into two pieces, one of which was launched into traffic. Luckily no other vehicles were damaged nor people hurt. The mechanics said they've been in business for 57 years and I was lucky to have come out of that the way I did, because in most cases the truck would have flipped and rolled. The damages were extensive and extreme for something I had no control over. The shop informed me that this was nothing to do with the way I was driving it or anything I could have done, and they found it "weird" that it happened the way it did. Very dangerous and near traumatizing. I was unable to select the correct components above so I just wanted to be clear that it had everything to do with my drive shaft, rear differential, and power line.
I was having an issue with my engine stalling with around 97,900 miles on my 2005 Nissan Titan. At this time, my check engine light also came on. I took it to the dealership to get the problem code read and they said I had faulty bank 1 and bank 2 catalytic converters. The dealer said the stalling was due to a recall, NHTSA campaign id number: 10v517000. My complaint is that I had no problem with my catalytic converters until this recall issue. Since my catalytic converters and exhaust manifold are one piece, it cost $2,827. 28 to have them replaced and I do not feel I should have to pay this, since this problem stemmed from their recall issue.
The axle seals leak intermittingly on both the driver and passenger side, rear axle. Gear oil leaks out and coats the backside of the brake/wheel assembly. This is the second incident on the driver side. The first time it was fixed under warranty at approximately 20000 miles. The passenger side axle seals were fixed under warranty at approximately 25000 miles.
Rear axle seals leaking fluid. Safety issue due to fluid possibly leaking onto break pads and lack of lubrication fluid could lead to axle locking while in motion.
Rear axle seal leaking on brakes. Truck wont stop very well. Nissan knows about this problem.
In April 2011 my rear axle seals on my Nissan Titan were leaking. I had these seals replaced with genuine Nissan parts. Not even 11 months later, I was coming home from camping, and at approx 45 mph I heard a loud pop, and metal on metal in my rear wheels. I immediately pulled over and found a mechanic within . 2 of a mile. He told me that my rear axles seals failed, blew out the bearings, and the only thing holding my wheel on was the rear brake caliper. I had to have the truck towed to Nissan, and have a whole new rear axle assembly installed ($4000). There have been many complaints to Nissan about these rear axles failing, starting with the seals. . . . The service manager has seen many of these trucks come in for new rear axles. There are numerous complaints online from Nissan owners as well. Nissan is aware of this defect, but will not fix the problem. If I didn't pull over immediately, my wheel might have fallen off (according to the mechanic). I'm asking for someone to look into this before someone dies from this defect. Thank you.
I noticed a black dark grease on the inner rim and axle hub. I was told by a neighbor with the same make and year that this is a leaking bearing seal and that the entire axle has to be replaced. I consider this a hazard if the bearing seal has leaked all over the rear break pads and shoes.
Vehicle parked in residential location. Driven daily. Fuel line chewed through in multiple locations by small animal. Line is simple plastic and was easily violated. Animal chose no other part to chew. Fault resulted in replacement of entire gas tank and fuel line assembly because they are one part. Fuel line was compromised.
My brakes started to fail. Upon inspection it was determined that my rear axle seals had failed. Fluid has leaked all over the bottom, into my brakes. Resulting in total brake replacement. It is very costly and I am currently trying to find a shop to fix. Apparently it is mainly a dealer repair; how convenient.
Went to start truck and as I started driving there was a loud bang from the rear of truck and the truck stopped moving forward then the engine revved and it seemed to catch and the truck moved forward slowly. The entire rear end of the truck went out and now needs to be replaced. Lucky I was only going 5mph.
I take very good care of my truck, have had it since it was new. Was going down town, stopped at a stop sign, started to go, turn, and it made this awful loud noise in the back. When I stopped, it did it again, when I went to pull into a parking space, it acted as if it didnt want to move. I checked the wheel and they were all ok it was dark and I couldnt see under it. Left there, and the noise was getting worse. Went straight home which was about 6 miles. The next morning I got up and called Nissan and they couldnt get it in until 5 days later, I told them there was something really wrong. Got in the truck and was going to les schwab to see if they could check it. Stopped to get me a coffee, backing out of the parking space, the truck acted as if it didnt want to move, sounded and felt as if the back tires were trying to lock up. I called Nissan back because I needed to make appt to get service done anyway. The guy at Nissan said they had a cancelation and to bring the truck in. I took the back roads, worried something might really happen if I took the freeway, so I took it slow, all the way the noise was getting worse. I got to Nissan, the guy pulled it up in the bay, and it made the noise, really loud. He got out said something really wrong. The rear axle had broke inside in little pieces. $2800 to fix it. Was so upset, no family to borrow a car, no money to fix it. The guy at Nissan told me not to worry, would call Nissan corp Monday see what he could do. He agreed that the way I take care of my truck and the miles on it, shouldnt have happened. Also the seals were leaking. I went on line and found several complaints about the rear axle, seals, differental breaking on the 04, 05, and 06 Titans guy at Nissan told me that after a few years of building Titans they had to totallly rebuild the rear axle and I would have a totally different one. Nissan should step up.
Front differential failure on a 2005 Nissan Titan with under 37000 miles. Dealer cost to repair is $1800. Internet search indicates it is a common problem with a known weak part that has since been upgraded. Nissan knows about the issue but refuses to issue a safety or technical bulletin.
My rear axel differential on my 2004 Nissan Titan se leaked gear oil for the second time in 3 years. My truck had 59,900 miles when it occurred for the second time. I called Nissan motor company. They said they would not cover the repair. I had to repair the truck at my expense due to Nissans bad designed of the rear differential axel (seals).
At only 60,755 miles I experienced a rear axle seal leak which affected my ability to apply my emergency parking brake. The fluid had leaked so bad that it covered the emergency brake rotor, preventing it from holding.
Flange connecting tailpipe to muffler rusted through, allowing the tailpipe to break free and dangle from undercarriage of vehicle. Others have reported that similar failures have resulted in heat damage from exhaust to the wiring harness that runs in close proximity to the muffler. This damage to the wiring has resulted in loss of abs braking and traction control. While it may be expected that the exhaust system will rust, the placement of the wiring harness in such close proximity and the risk of serious damage to it when/if the exhaust fails is poor design that should be remedied.
Differential started to wine at about 58,000 miles. Noticed that the right rear-end of diff is leaking oil. Reported it to dealer, but they said nothing is wrong, do not hear anything, no idea what it is. Concerned that the oil may end up on the rear brake rotors in which case rear brake failure may occur. Rear end starting to fail now at 72,000.
My Nissan Titan shakes at the speed of 45 to 55 mph. It's been to the shop several times, they say it is the characteristics of the Nissan Titan, no accidents , nothing, just shaking!.
The front and rear wheel seals and spacers are faulty and causing fluid to leak out onto the brakes and brake pads. Which could cause fire, braking problems and if unfixed could cause the front/rear end to go out on the truck.
Rear axle seals, locks, & gaskets need to be replaced and the dealer is charging approx. $800 to fix the problem. The oil is leaking onto the wheels from the axle problem. The switch for the driver controlled windows is out and the air pressure light comes on almost 80% of the time. The driver seat belt appears to jam and won't come undone or latch on most of the time.
I have taken this avenue due to the fact that the phone numbers they gave me on my recall notice went no where. It seemed the 2 numbers I did call were no help so I am resorting to the internet process they offered. In my notification it states that the Nissan Titan/armada's - 2005-2006 models - that the air conditioner condenser fan motor have been manufactured out of specifications, that inadequate water drainage allows moisture to build-up leading to increased temperatures in the motor which in turn could cause wiring to melt the insulation and other plastic components and ultimately result in a fire. Now there solution is to install a special protector kit to eliminate a potential fire to occur. My complaint is that if indeed these have been manufactured out of spec's then they need to be replaced not modified. I would hope that they would stand up and take responsibility and do the right thing, after all we paid a good sum of money for these vehicles and expect these items when they arrive to be handled in a professional manner, not by some rinky-dinky part installed to get them out of this problem that has risen. All I ask is that this be looked into, I'm not saying the part they wish and have already installed from my information on vehicles already wouldn't suffice but that is not what I paid for. Thank-you.
I had both rear wheel axle seals that started to leak replaced on my Nissan Titan. (both replaced by the Nissan dealer)the right rear at 40,527 and the left rear at 55,638. Now again the right rear is leaking again at 79,000. I talked to the dealer about this problem and was told they don't see a lot of problems with these wheel seals leaking. From what I read about other owners of Nissan Titans I disagree. I believe this is a serious problem that needs to be looked at. Getting oil on the brakes is a accident waiting to happen. Need help here. Thanks.
I'd like someone to call me.
Rust spots on the roof. Paint chips over 95% of the vehicles body. I am not aware of how this issue precipitated as this vehicle is garaged when at home and in a secure parking location on a military air base when I am at work. I have met with ferman Nissan service manager eric green, a ferman body shop professional named 'chris' and mr. Battista, the collision center director. All concur there is a real paint issue however the Nissan representative was the decision maker on warranty repairs of which he denied a claim. The rust must be 'perforated' through according to ferman Nissan which it is not as yet. Also; I was told it is 'out of warranty' which I now have 39k miles on the vehicle and this was reported at the time of purchase then again when I took it in for the 32k miles service.

So of these issues are just now popping. Only 2 of the issues have been taken care of. Per the dealership I would be contacted and have not received any calls to get these matters taken care of. I feel this vehicle is unsafe since the issues have not be addressed.
The vdc [vehicle dynamic control] kept shutting off. This is a safety feature to regulate motion and speed of the 4 wheels. The vdc would not turn back on with the vdc dash button. The dealer stated the rear differential bearings had failed and the Titan was unsafe to drive. It's been at the dealer waiting for a new rear differential for 2 weeks. The truck was not delivered with the power folding - auto dim exterior mirrors; the xm radios did not work; bed extender not installed; gas tank wasn't full as promised.
I have taken my truck in twice now for the brakes and the carpet being soaking wet from the truck leaking somewhereand the passenger airbag light not turning off. They resurfaced my brakes and said the leak was from the a/c. They also told us about the brake problem with the 2004 Titans and that they would put us on a waiting list for the replacement parts. We are now taking it in again for the same problems. The floor is soaking wet and we have not ran the a/c. The brakes are shaking violently again, and not to mention the new problem of the cargo light turning on by itself when it is parked. I only have about 8300 miles on my truck and I only drive 5 miles one way to work. These are major problems that are occuring in such short time of having the truck.
The vehicle displayed intermittent chemical type odor through hvac system, 3 dealerships unable/unwilling to confirm, or seek direction from corporate as to method for resolution at my suggestion/request. I waited one year to allow for vehicle to "off-gas" interior odors from materials used in manufacture, had to insist that dealer staff document the concern which is yet unresolved and denied assistance from consumer affairs deptartment to satisfy health and safety concerns. Incurred significant additional expenses to alleviate issue such as in cabin air filter and purchase of ionizing unit; plus missed workdays, transportation, fuel and service and diagnostic fees at dealerships.
Brakes on the 2004 Nissan truck are faulty. Overheating rotors are causing the front end to shake. Stopping distance is dramatically increased.
Can not read computer-generated information in daylight, cloudy or otherwise. Includes gear indicator, tow mode, mileage, air conditioning, etc. Had an army lt. Col. On his knees trying to read the gauges as we were driving through las vegas, nv. Prior to this trip out west, all of my driving had been local and infrequent (I use a more economical car for in-town/local driving), and the speedometer is not computer generated. This is unsafe and I do not wish to be killed trying to see the dash instruments. I have driven with the rheostat turned all the way up, with no effect/benefit. I bought this truck to tow my trailer and travel. I am unsafe during daylight and towing a trailer at night is not acceptable nor practical. I called the manufacturer (Nissan) who directed me to take the vehicle to my local dealer (jenkins in lakeland, FL). While the head of service (mr. Dunkin) agreed he could not read the information on a cloudy day, his only advice was to turn the rheostat all the way up, which was already done. He said nothing could be done. Did not give me any paperwork to prove I was there. Condition is on-going and is very dangerous. A person could easily take full attention off of driving to try to read the gauges. This could and would cause accidents. The number of failures is every time I drive in daylight.
The door handles on my 2004 Nissan Titan all freeze shut when it gets cold out. It seems to let water come in around handle and than it freezes. This prevent me from being able to gain entrance into vehicle. This occurs everytime it is cold out especially in winter. Nissan refuses to pay for repairs as vehicle is out of warranty and it will cost roughly $175 for parts per door plus labor. I guess in later models they have redesigned them but refuses to fix vehicles with old old designed handles.
