1 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Upper part of exhaust manifold cracked causing carbon monoxide to enter cabin anytime blower is turned on.

2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2013

While driving our muffler started making a clunking sound, I pulled over and realized my muffler was not attached to the exhaust pipe anymore, the connection between the two had rusted. But muffler and pipe are not rusted at all, just the connection. I have heard other complaints about their Nissan doing the same thing, but Nissan wont take the blame and recall the components. Please help.

3 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

The muffler sound seemed quite loud on Thursday, 12/27/12, something I had not noticed before. The next day Friday, 12/28/12, the muffler started rattling very loudly. I called to make an appt for service and was told it was a very common problem with 2007 Versas. I have an estimate of $400 to fix this. I've have owned other makes of vehicles for over 12 years that never have needed a muffler. Now that I've investigated, there are many reports of this issue, all seemed to report a poor design. The car has been garaged for the entire 6years that I've owned it and the body is actually showing rust that the dealer said Nissan would fix. Nissan refused saying the car is 6 years old.

4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2012

I replaced the muffler and gasket on my 2007 Nissan Versa on September 21, 2012 the poor quality of the materials that Nissan used for the flange became brittle and cracked, compromising the structural and functional integrity of the muffler at approximately 62,600 miles. I am the original owner and take impeccable care of this vehicle and all my vehicles. If this safety/exhaust/emission problem had not been repaired, it may have caused injury (minor, major, and maybe fatal) to driver and passengers in the Versa as well as other drivers/passengers of other vehicles. This issue should not happen in this make/model/year with low to moderate mileage or any make/model/year of car since mufflers and associated parts have long been perfected.

5 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

Exhaust pipe weld broke cleanly right at the flange.

6 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

My muffler on my 2007 Versa rotted off the main pipe. After doing some research I found out this is a common problem with the Versas. Why is Nissan not recalling these faulty parts. Now I have to shop around and hope to get a good price with replacing the muffler. I am sure I will be back and say the tail pipe had to be replaced because many people have replaced that part already too.

7 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

Exhaust system failure. The muffler broke off at the flange that conects it to the rest of the exhaust pipe, this was a failure of the pipe itself. The car has no other signs of rust or breakdown, but the pipe just severed at the point where it attaches to connecting flange.

8 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Nissan Versa. While driving approximately 40 mph the contact heard a loud banging noise on the muffler. The contact exit the vehicle, inspected the muffler and noticed that it had separated from the pipe. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was it repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Rvk.

9 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

When I started, the car I was surprised by a loud sound. I called the mechanic who came to my home. It turns out the sound was the muffler. I had to replace a rusted muffler for a car with low mileage. The car is driven short distances 1-2 times a week.

10 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

Pipe from front end of muffler failed at flange weld due (1) mechanical strain, the muffler pipe supports the resonator by pulling the pipe tight; (2) lack of corrosion inhibition; (3) poor quality welding, the components appeared to have not been cleaned first. ==details== [1] the comparatively heavy resonator was supported at the rear only by the pipe segments between it and the muffler. This is a significant amount of mechanical force, applied to a structure not designed to handle it. [2] any car sold to parts of the USA that regularly get snow should have corrosion prevention applied to all underbody components by default. Not doing so is not only a poor business decision but also increases the likelihood of parts falling off and landing in the road. [3] welds to underbody components should be well inspected, as if they become separated parts of the vehicle may cease to function properly or depart from the vehicle entirely, resulting in a safety issue. ==final note== this form does not retain formatting, making the reports unduly difficult to read.

11 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2011

After 50,000+ miles the gasket and muffler had to be replaced due to poor metal and welding construction. This is the only part on the under carriage that is rusted. Seems to be a very common issue and should warrant a recall on at least the 2007 models.

12 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

The gasket muffler is rusted and broke.

13 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2011

On 3/18/2011 I had to have my whole muffler system replaced because it became separated from the engine at the front of the vehicle at 119k miles. (I'm no car expert. ) then today I hear the same loud noises and my vehicle shaking just like a year ago. Right now my car is at 138k miles. I bought the car brand new in July of 2006. I'm taking my car in tomorrow to have it looked at again and I will be very surprised if it is a different issue. I'm worried about driving on the highway and my muffler system coming off and causing an accident. I'm not comfortable driving my car in the state that it is in and I'm definitely not comfortable driving while pregnant with my 2 year old son in the car. I'm not too happy about having to shell out another $700 to get this fixed within a span of 13 months! because of this issue I will not be buying another Nissan vehicle. This should be recalled, I have read so many other people who have had the exact same issues. Nissan claims it's salt damage. In the past year, I have not driven on any salty roads since having my vehicle fixed, so I can't see how it can be blamed on salt. Our winter was so warm our roads didn't even get salted the winter season after I got my muffler system fixed the first time. I've also read that Nissan - canada is fixing it as a measure of goodwill on a case by case basis. I'd love for Nissan to fix my car too since this will be the second time I'm having to fix the exact same issue. I keep my car well maintained and this is the only issue that I've had that has been recurring with my vehicle and has been a major concern for me.
