Exhaust failure at rear flange. Possible muffler detachment resulting in a car accident. Vehicle under 100,000km. . . Note, I will never buy another Nissan, so many exhaust failure complaints. Exhaust became very loud, rattling, etc. Verified that the flange on the muffler had rusted off at the welds. Muffler hangers held the muffler in place. Not able to comment as to whether or not any drivers or passengers suffered from c02 related health or breathing issues.

The Nissan dealership informed me of a broken mid pipe on the muffler. I researched the issue and found that many people were told that it is related to salt on the roads. The issue appears to be persistent across Nissan Versas in the late 2000 models (especially 2009). There is a loud roaring noise from the muffler and a strong gaseous smell inside when the engine is on and no other heating/cooling functions are turned on.

2009 Nissan Versa. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle coil springs fracture issues. The consumer stated while driving, she hit a small pothole and heard a loud bang. The consumer and her husband thought it was a flat tire, but after pulling over, they did not see anything. They continued to drive, but then they heard another strange noise and smelled burning rubber. By the time the consumer pulled into the driveway, the tire on the front passenger side was burning. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The consumer was informed both front springs were broken on the right side. The consumer stated a couple of years ago, the left rear spring was replaced. Also, the muffler was replaced twice.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a rattling noise underneath the vehicle. The dealer stated that the muffler welding fractured due to road salt. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 89,000.

As has been documented in 29 previous complaints on this site, Nissan Versa has known failure of exhaust system flange within 36-48 months, resulting in muffler failure and dangerous levels of toxic fumes entering cabin and outside air. Potential loss of muffler while driving also creates risk of accident and injury to car passengers and/or other vehicles on road. Expense to repair via midas in this circumstance was $474, with this one location reporting this as "standard" issue with all Nissan's, for which they have completed "non stop" repairs. Nissan has refused to offer any assistance to customers on this issue. This is well documented, and a known safety hazard for both potential accidents and air poisoning dot needs to investigate and hold Nissan accountable for recall and repair of this flange.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, an abnormal noise was heard near the rear driver side. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the muffler exhaust flange fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. Ec.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the exhaust shook and made a loud noise. The contact also stated that the vehicle lost acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was told the flange that connects the manifold to the engine along with the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 56,000. The VIN was not available.

Muffler flange connecting to exhaust pipe broke. The weld that connects the muffler to the exhaust pipe broke. Had to replace entire muffler over a broken weld. Cost over 300. 00 to fix the issue. Of course, Nissan was no help.
