36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

The problem is with the shifter. The shifter moves from park to any other position without the use of the break pedal. Also, the shifter slides easily from drive to neutral while driving. Finally, the cable broke and the car was stuck in park. This car has 57,000 miles. The mechanic said it needs a new shifter assembly. There is a recall for some Nissan Versas for this problem. Why not this one?.

As I accelerate, the rpms keep jumping and the car jumps forward.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2018

While family traveling, car began to skip and vibrate and slow down. Then could not press gas pedal and maintain speed to get off road in a excessable area which almost caused accident by others not realizing there was a problem and it did happen quickly so others had little time to respond. This happened on a two lane highway in busy section. After towing back to town, it was found to be a failed cvt transmission which has been a known problem by Nissan for many years and they even extended the warranty on models up to 2010 but since mine is 2012, it was not included in this extension?.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

My auto is disabled. Key doesn't turn, the wheels are locked up and noticed that there is hesitation when shifting made a nose. I can't drive my auto at all. I am still responsible for the payments on the vehicle. It doesn't seem like a regular wear and tear issue.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2017

Started to drive in stop and go traffic and the car bucked and then had no power and then had power. Stopped again in traffic and it happened again. Seemed to fix itself. Hasn't happened since. Also sometimes the powertrain shudders when first starting off. Doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

While driving on the freeway going apprx 70mph my car suddenly lost power and starting fluttering. I had to try to pull off to the shoulder without getting hit!! I couldn't go faster than 20 mph. I took my car to the shop and was told I needed a new transmission. The code they read was po846. My car only has 105k miles!!! I have read many other complaints about this same issue from many people. I also read the manufacturer extended the warranty but only until 2010!!! why???? these cars are hazardous to be on the road and there needs to be a lawsuit filed!! this happened right after I was told to replace the catalytic converter, which was done on 8/25/17.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

When I have more than 1 passenger in the vehicle the vehicle hesitates; the engine revs but the car does not move. The car hesitates as it starts moving and I was almost hit by oncoming traffic because the vehicle didn't pick up while making a turn. I took it to the shop right away, and they replaced the transmission. This cost more than $3,000 and a 5 year vehicle should not have the transmission go bad, and it could have killed us if the vehicles didn't avoid hitting us on the road when it stalled.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2017

While driving car stalls . Rpm go way up and down but doesn't move. Very dangerous on a highway. This problem was suppose to be fixed on Versas up to 2010 but is reaccurring. Wonder how many people have to die before recall? this happened on a main highway while going 60mph . Dealership can't get it to happen but if you read it happens a lot.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2017

I brought my car(used) in November 2013, within 6 months June 2014 I had to get a new transmission. Fast forward 3 years later, while driving on the freeway my check engine light came on. So I took my vehicle to the car dealership and to my surprise they said I needed a new transmission. Since my warranty had expire I was quoted $4,000 to replace my transmission. So I contacted Nissan consumer affairs to see if they could provide some type of assistance and they stated their was nothing they could do. I'm not a mechanic but a transmission shouldn't be going out every 50,000 miles.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would not immediately accelerate when pressing the accelerator pedal. The failure was also present when attempting to accelerate from a stationary position. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer filsbee Nissan of filsbee, TX and manufacturer were both notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000. Jft.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2017

On Tuesday, may 23, 2017, I was driving on us 95 northbound in las vegas. It was around 5:30 pm, so rush-hour. Traffic was bumper to bumper. I was in the far left lane not even going 15 mph. Traffic had started to move and as I hit the car I noticed my car had no power and my car had died! a bunch of lights came on my dashboard but the car was not overheating. I coasted over to the left emergency lane. I shut the car off, waited about 5 min and turned the car back on. All of the lights on the dashboard went off and the car did not show that it was overheating. I began to continue to drive and had no other problems from there. But my car shouldn't just die in traffic! I'm glad traffic was bumper to bumper and not crazy! if my car had died while going faster I may have been hit.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2017

I was driving on the freeway as my car came to no power engine on will not drive I had my insurance totaled the car to the nearest dealer the dealer tells me I need a new transmission I don't have $4,000 for a new transmission!.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

I bought recently 2012 Nissan Versa car with their cvt transmission. Not even after 6 months of using the car, it completely went out. The dealership offered to replace it for $4300, which is about the same as market value of the car. After reading more online, I found out that this is really common issue and this transmissions go out very often. On top of that they can't be rebuild. Nissan is aware of their faulty transmissions and they had recalls on different models, but are still avoiding on this one. They also have some software issue, that can cause problems with pressure when changing gears between d and l. We were about to get the advised updated last Saturday, unfortunately the car didn't make it. The official letter states that it could lower the durability of the transmission, they didn't want to admit it on the phone. My case was evaluated by summer, from hq and got notified by her that Nissan, won't help in any way.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Takata recall my vehicle stopped when it was in motion in the middle of traffic. The engine light turned on and I barely made it to the side of the street.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

About 6 months after purchasing the Versa in 2012 I felt hesitation and slippage in the transmission. Within 2 years of the purchase I brought this problem to the attention of the service department while the transmission was still under warranty. I was told each time that they couldn't find anything wrong. Now at 85,000 miles I again took the Versa to the dealership with the same complaint, but now worse, and was told that the transmission was shot and they couldn't do anything since it was now out of warranty. While in motion the transmission hesitates. Surges, slips, and bucks.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2016

The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. While the contact's grandson was driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unaware if any warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was previously serviced per a transmission recall. The contact could not provide the NHTSA campaign number. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

54 Power Train problem

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

My car has been acting like it wouldn't shift when I accelerate on a hill. It jerks and the rpms spike up and down but no increase in speed. My mechanic is telling me that this is an accelerator cable issue and that part is over $700. I have done some research and found many 2012 Versas with the exact same issue, some have even stalled while on a highway. Why is Nissan not doing something about this? I tried to pull out at a red light and even though I depressed the gas pedal, my car did not move, the rpms did not change. After a few minutes, I was able to get it off the street into a parking lot. A day later, it did it again.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

When I was buying this car from mcculskey used I questioned the transmission. Asked that they put this in writing. They refused and stated that it was fine. The transmission at the time was a dead spot where trans did not shift. As time has passed, the transmission has progressively gotten worse until I could not take it. The transmission at 25 mph and 45 mph went in to seizures. Almost like a new driver of a standard shift. Then the power would shut down while driving. I took it to the dealer service. Because they would know better than anyone. How ever they were unable to find anything wrong with my transmission. They were able to fix the power problem. No recalls available. While researching my car I found that 2007-2010 trans have been recalled. I spoke to Nissan company to make a complaint. There was nothing they could do for me. Recently the ps light is coming on. The power stearing is out when the light is on. When you shut the car off and turn it back on the power stearing works until the light returns. The car is now almost not able to drive due to the trans. I only have 84,000 miles on this car. It is only 4 years only. I need someone to help.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

I would like to report that I purchased a Nissan Versa on April 5, 2015. The night I drove it home I noticed a few problems: first: the seat belt light stays on unless both front seats are buckled even if the drive is the only person in the vehicle. This is cause for the vehicle to not pass state inspection and the dealership I bought it from is telling me they took the car to two different Nissan dealerships and this is proper function for the Nissan Versa. The mechanic from the inspection station and I each called Nissan dealerships as well and each of the dealerships we spoke with said this is in fact incorrect and needs to be fixed. Second: the car is not accelerating or shifting (atleast that is how I described it). I tried to merge into traffic and rpm's moved way up but the car hesitated to move forward once it started to move I had to put on the brakes because traffic was too close. I drove it to west virginia with my young sons in tow and it could not keep up with the flow of traffic and continued to get worse the longer we were on the road or on an incline. The speed limit was 70 mph on interstate 70 and it took a long time to get up to speed. When there was an incline (we were in the mountains) the rpm's would go up to 4,000- 4,500 but the car would stay at 60 mph and lose speed. The dealership called me and was very condescending letting me know they could find no problems with the car. They will not even fix the seat belt warning light even though I can not get my hard tags for the car.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the gear shifter was able to be moved without having the brake depressed. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter was able to be moved without the brake being applied. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 12v032000 (power train); however, the VIN was not inlcuded. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,600.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2016

The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. After driving approximately 8 mph, the vehicle would not operate forward. The contact stated that the reverse functioned properly. The contact was able to reverse in a parking structure. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2016

I was driving and while the vehicle was in motion I inadvertently bumped into my gear shifter handle and my car shifted into reverse without the break being depressed or applied. I almost had an car crash/accident with the person directly behind me. In March of 2016 I contacted Nissan north America, inc. About this issue but they are not acknowledging that this is a safety defect. My car has aprroxametly 57,470 miles as of 03/30/2016 and Nissan north America is refusing to repair this dangerous defect free of charge because my vehicle was not on any Nissan or nhsta campaign recall lists. The referenced nhsta campaign recall id number associated with my vehicle issue is 12v032000 voluntary safety recall campaign 2012 Versa sedan shift selector campaign pm253 applied vehicles 2012 Versa(n17) applied transmission cvt.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2016

Hesitation going up any incline. Just started when it hit 60000. Warranty only for 50000. Looks like Nissan built it to just get by then over 50000 you are out big time. My big issue is I had to trade car with my daughter who drove this. Almost had 2 accidents in a week because of heavy traffic. Stay away from this for safety issues. Accident waiting to happen.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2016

Driving on I-5 north of san diego and car will no longer accelerate, rpm going into red but no acceleration. Car slowed to 40's then 30's then stopped altogether. Had to be towed. Clearly a common issue with this model. I gave this car to my daughter because I thought it was safe and reliable.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the transmission hesitated between shifting and the engine rpms revved. The transmission would shift gears violently causing the vehicle to jerk. The contact mentioned that the failure was getting progressively worst. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

I was in the middle of in intersection, making a left turn, and the car would not move forward. I was able to go in reverse and backed it up into a parking lot.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

I bought the 2012 Versa new and now that it has around 70000 the transmission is going out. I took me Versa in to the dealership to get a oil change and not even two weeks later the car started to die when first start and when you do get up and go it is not smooth. Took the car to dealership and they told me that my transmission (transaxle) is going out. $3800 quote and I just bought it in July of 2012. Oil change 1/19/2016. Told transmission was bad on 2/5/2016.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

While accelerating from a stop at an intersection the vehicles would not move. You press the pedal and it does not throttle up or move at all leaving us exposed to traffic. After the car sat for 1 hour we were able to drive it but then the rpm began to fluctuate between 2000 and 4000 rpm and you could feel the vehicle speed up and slow down without any movement of the throttle. This occurred multiple times so we took it to a shop. The diagnosed this as a bad transmission which they stated was common on for this type of cvt transmission. I reviewed the transmission and complaints associated with the Nissan cvt built by jatco and quality issues exist. Nissan extended the warranties on the 2010 models when the 2012 through 2015 models are having the same issues and failures potentially leaving you stranded or worse in the middle of an intersection about to get whacked by a semi. Nissan refused to anything about this issue stating that there is no issue. The only problem with that logic is mr. Ghosn, ceo nna, state in December 2013 that jatco had significant issues with their quality of product. A product that can leave you or your children in a bad way trying to navigate traffic. So my point to all of this, Nissan is well aware of the issues with their cvt transmission but refuse to make it right.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

Cvt belt slipping cvt transmission needs replaced. Car has 66852 miles on it just 6852 miles over warranty and transmission needs replaced. Did research and this problem is continuously occurs with Nissan Versaso andnissa refusing to fix the issue.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

I got in the car and drove to the store. When I tryed to leave the car would not move, the engine wined but it did not ingage the trans. I was at a stop in a parking lot thank god, but we just drove back from a long trip yesterday. They say my VIN is not part of the recall.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

12/18/2015 driving the 2012 Nissan Versa sv on I-380 to us 101 during traffic hours. The car is at normal operating temperature. The car was going uphill, stepped on gas pedal, the rpm will no goes up neither the car move. The rpm will goes up in p or n only. Auto shop told me, when transmission gets hot. It will be not functioning correctly. Really happened to the car on the incident day, the car shift slow and vibrate a a lot. At higher speed with cruise control on or stable speed the rpm will goes from 2000-5000 up and down there is no any check light on the car. It was scary and dangerous.
