Transmission failure. Started car and had no power when pulling out into street. Seemed to drive in 4th gear.
I was entering the 101 from broadway road in mesa. There was a car 2 seconds behind me. I was changing lanes going to the left and the car aggressively accelerated with the intent to pass me and nearly hit me. I had to swerve back to my original lane. I then changed lanes and was trying to change lanes going left and the same car attempted to aggressively pass me after I had already began changing lanes. I had to swerve to the right again to avoid an accident. I let this Mazda car pass and then changed lanes going left. At that point the car abruptly slowed down from going 75 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour. This nearly caused another accident as it was obvious the car was trying to annoy and frustrate me for no reason. He continued this speed for about half a mile before changing lanes. He nearly caused 4 separate accidents with his aggressive driving.
According to your recalls and my VIN# my new used vehicle has not been maintenance for the recall. There is distinct play in the steering and the vehicle is bouncy. I need to know where to take my Xterra to have it fixed ASAP if possible. Recall campaign numbers are 10e019000 & 10v208000.
In 2019 got an incident with my Nissan Xterra's transmission. Something failed in the transmission that when I was driving it all of the sudden started to slowdown so I park and it got towed and took it to the mechanic. They charged me 2000 to fix it. And since then the engine light comes on. So after months I took it to a mechanic again and the guy said the radiation is sending water into the transmission that's why the transmission was failing.
I was driving from pennsylvania to suffern NY and when I took the exit to suffern the car lost power with preview sign that was going to happen. When I try to get to a shop to check it out it was smoking and I saw liquid under. The car will start but cannot move anymore or move slowly. I have to leave it in someone's house.
My wife's 05 Nissan Xterra started having problems when driving with shuttering, and rumble strip noises. Started noticing the heater would not blow hot when stationary. Took to transmission shop and my worst fear came true. Water in transmission I been hearing about. To top it off had rear end replaced six months ago cause the owner guaranteed me that was where the shuddering was coming from. That was a 2000 dollar repair. Needless to say it was not the damn rear end. Will never ever buy Nissan again! they know all about this huge problem. People are hurting from this mess!the latest repair shop won't 4600 hundred for replacement of transmission &a radiator. Do not know what to do because u hear and read the about the engine could be corroded. Of course Nissan doing nora!.
The vehicle has 109,000 miles. Has started terrible vibation at between 40 - 60 mph and worse on acceleration. Have read complaints on antifreeze leaking into transmission causing this problem. Three years ago I was driving in winter and heater was not working. Went to mechanic and there was no atifreeze and no visible leak. Am a widow of 2 1/2 years and this is my main vehicle.
Antifreeze leaked into transmission causing irreparable damage to transmission and radiator replacement.
Cross contamination of radiator and transmission fluids due to faulty design. Vehicle has 102k miles on it and can't be driven. We purchased the vehicle used with 86k miles and were never informed of any recall or lawsuit. This is the second transmission problem I have had with a Nissan I lost thousand trading in a almost new Nissan ultima 2007 previously due to constant transmission problems now this transmission has seized up and the radiator is full of gunk. This should be a full recall and repair on the part of Nissan they know their design caused the problem. We still owe $$$ on this car and will ruin our credit by turning it in and cannot afford the $6k cost to repair this. The deal they did still left the consumer holding the bag for their bad design.
Transmission has been slipping . I heard of a recall on this problem and I called Nissan and was told I missed extended warranty buy 8 days ,they admitted that they did have problems with this vehicles transmission. But refuse to do anything about it, also very hard to put gas in,.
My son was driving the car on a local road near home at night. He was accelerating up a small grade, when he said the car acted as if it had popped out of gear. It began to rev higher and made a higher pitched sound. He tried changing from being in "drive" to a lower gear, but it still did not engage the transmission. He had enough momentum to be able to coast onto our side street and park the car. Luckily there was no accident, but he was almost rear-ended as his car slowed suddenly and traffic ran up on him. The car would not start, nor turn over at that point. I had the car towed to the local Nissan dealer. They mentioned it was a known issue with the transmission and radiator and it would cost over 5k for just a new transmission, not including a new radiator or labor to install both. I was able to find another mechanic that purchased a rebuilt transmission, but the whole thing still cost over 5k to have the rebuilt transmission and radiator installed with no assurance that it would not happen again. This is a well documented issue with these vehicles and continues to cost people thousands of dollars for a very poor and dangerous design.
On 7/10/15 my husband was checking the radiator and found transmission fluid in it. I immediately called pine belt Nissan of toms river NJ were we purchased this vechicle and 2 others the service department said we would need a transmission and it would be $7,000. It was no longer under warranty it was warrantied to 100,000 when I questioned it because we were 2,000 miles over I was told well the warranty was only to 100,000 when my VIN # was checked. So we checked around for a transmission shop and decided to have it fixed at american transmission in lakewood NJ. He had told us to contact Nissan because there is a problem with the design of the radiator that is bad and causing the transmission problem. We ended up spending $5,069. 23 to have it fixed $2000 less than Nissan had quoted. We had it fixed right away because we did not know if this probem would also ruin the engine. I already wrote to Nissan about this problem for a refund and waiting for a response. I had told them we were a loyal customer of Nissan owning 8 of their vehicles.
Driving at 65 miles per hour when my car began to act like the gear was slipping. Then it began to slow down from 40 miles per hour and no matter how hard I pushed on the gas petal, it would not speed up. Then it just would not move after that. Had to call a tow truck to move my car from the road and take it to a transmission specialist who said that the radiator had gone bad and leaked into the transmission.

Confirmed diagnoses of vehicle damage of radiator assembly & transmission are due to Nissan's defective radiator assembly which allows coolant to pass through into the transmission rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. Nissan is unwilling to assist with the repairs of damage caused by defect. I was not notified of this manufacturing defect. This is a safety issue, a damaged transmission due to coolant entering it has rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive, a known defect, yet the manufacturer will not even compromise to assist with repair of this defect. A manufacturer should assist with repair of any defect that renders the equipment unsafe to operate - no matter when that defect decides to show up! Nissan should assist in all repairs due to their known defect to let the consumer operate the vehicle in safety.
Transmission issue! being told it's from coolant leaking into transmission.
My car oveheated and began to buck -- mechanic stated transmission and radiator have failed - I still owe 1 year on this car and Nissan wont fix it - can you help in any way published on Apr 18, 2013 video of what happens to the radiator/transmission fluid when the transmission fluid radiator fails and a cross connection happens between the two fluids that don't belong together. Nissan settled a class action lawsuit in January of 2013, but this doesn't mean that you still can't file a complaint with the national transportation safety administration. If you have experienced this problem or no someone that has, file the complaint. Also call the state attorney general and the federal trade commission and file a complaint against Nissan. We bought the car used, but there is no way to check for this problem. If we had known the problem existed, I assure you we would not have purchased the vehicle. If I knew there was a potential problem after we purchased the vehicle, we could have replaced the transmission coolant radiator with the safer replacement type to prevent this from happening. I think it should have been the federal government's responsibility to notify the public of the problem and they should force Nissan to address the issue. They made Toyota step up with recalls and Toyota did to my recollection. Should have purchased a Toyota.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle vibrated; shifted gears. The contact stated that the vehicle had been diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the problem had been caused by a mixture of transmission and radiator fluid that had affected the transmission. Bd.
I was starting to drive my Nissan Xterra 2005 and heard a noise like metallic rattling. The mechanic told me the transmission oil is mixed with coland fluid. I was told, to fix will cost $5000 to replace the transmission and the radiator and cooling system. In the internet I found out many complains about Nissan's cars for this catastrophic failure. This is a manufacturer defective product. Damage to the transmission as a result of the defective car. Nccc (north carolina consumer council) has received a number of complaints from consumers in regards to sudden, catastrophic transmission failures in 2005-2010 Nissan pathfinder, frontier and Xterra vehicles. All of the vehicles experiencing these failures are not within the time period specified by the extended warranty, but are often beyond the mileage limit. So, why should I pay for somebody (Nissan) mistakes and never try to correct them? I never get from Nissan an advise on this potential failure of my car. Nissan has been aware of this problem since 2007 and has undertaken no preventive measures to protect consumers from failure. Nissan didn't warn consumers that the transmission could fail. Any honest company will at least warn consumers of the consequences to the transmission defect. But this rip of company do not care about their products nor their customers. I do not recomend to buy a Nissan car ever !!! Nissan motor corporation is a rip of company that lacks honesty !!!.
My transmission is failing and I cant drive my car now and I vant afford to fix it there should be a recall on these vehickles. .
My car was running fine and normal but when I tried to start it, nothing happened. I tried to jump the battery and I replaced the starter. After those attempts I had the vehicle towed to a nearby dealership who told me that coolant from the radiator leaked into the transmission and mixed fluid, damaging both the transmission and ecm. Car will not start and the is no communications working. The Nissan dealership recommended I get a new radiator, ipdm module, and transmission which was estimated at a cost of $5,500 after parts and labor. I had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop for a second opinion and was told the same thing as the dealer had said.
We have a 2005 Nissan Xterra and were never told about the trouble with this models trouble with the radiator coolant leaking into the transmission and causing damage. Nissan extended their warranty with a deductible up to 100,000 miles and ours leaked at 106,000 miles causing $5600 in damages that Nissan refused to acknowledge. Had there been a recall this never would have happened.
The passenger side air bag light started blinking even with the sitebelt on propperly. This vehicule had never been in crash once or ever. I am very concern.
Monday June 2 my husband told me something was wrong with his 05 Xterra. He said it sounded like it was driving on rumble strips in the road. We went online to find that there have been several complaints brought against Nissan for folks experiencing the same issue. We contacted our local Nissan dealer. I spoke with steven jones and he informed me that there is a known issue with 05 Xterra's where the radiator fluid leaks into the transmission which will in turn cause the engine to cease. He then indicated to me that there was a class action law suit that settled back in Jan 2013 that if the vehicle was under 100,000 miles all would be covered all but $3,000. Thats what we would have to pay to have this fixed knowing that this is a defect on the vehicle that Nissan has known about as it effects 2005-2010 Xterra's, pathfinders and frontiers. Yet its us that has to pay out of pocket this astronomical amount of money. Anyone over 100,000 miles would have to pay in full which ranges $7000 - $10,000 depending on the state you live in. You can't tell me that this is how a company stands by their name. This was literally almost a total loss on this vehicle but luckily enough we were 300 miles under the 100,000 mark. How is this ok to charge folks these prices for something that is a defect on the company. To date, we were never notified nor was a recall ever put into place. There are thousands of folks filing complaints on this matter. We should not have to have this worry how we will come up with this amount of money and by all means we should not have to borrow from 401k's to afford what we rightfully did not damage ourselves. I will never, we will never purchase another Nissan again because they did not stand by their name. All we are asking is that something be done to return our money that we so rightfully shouldn'thave had to put out.
When driving at highway speeds, vehicle would start to shudder and thud into gear. Had vehicle checked out and told there was a defect in which the connection between radiator and transmission malfunctioned and coolant mixed with transmission fluid, thereby destroying the transmission and radiator. I have found that this is apparently a very common problem of Nissan Xterras from 2005 to 2010 that I had no idea about. This really should be recalled on all affected vehicle, because it is such a common problem and if one has over 80k miles they still pay half for the repair and if over 100k miles there is no warranty coverage from Nissan. The warranty extension was the result of a class action suit but is not enough when full repair can be $6000 and there has been no warning from Nissan that this is a potential problem to look for.
Coolant enters into the transmission system from a defective radiator system and destroys transmission. Nissan manufacturer is aware of this, even lost a class action lawsuit, but has not recalled the vehicle. As a result, owners are not aware of the defect until transmission is ruined. Nissan only agreed to help repair vehicles, after the fact and only up to 100,000 miles - with the owner still having to pay $3,000 toward repair. Since we were not aware of the defect, we didn't do anything preemptive so we had to wait until our transmission was ruined. Since we are beyond the 100,000 mile mark, Nissan will not accept any responsibility for repair.
My 16 year son was driving home at 11:00 pm on the interstate when, with no warning, the car lost all acceleration power. He was able to get the car to the side of the road and turn the car off and on and got it into 3rd gear. It would not work in drive. He proceeded very slowly for a short distance until he would lose acceleration power. He had to continue to turn the car off and on on the highway multiple times to get it home that evening. He continued very slowly with his flashing lights on. It subsequently had to be towed. Thankfully, it did not result in a crash on the interstate. The car is black and it was very dark. It would've been very difficult for someone immediately behind him to react on the interstate. My son's safety was severely compromised. The problem turned out to be the radiator/transmisson problem Nissan is already being investigated for (NHTSA action number dp12004). It required a new radiator, a new transmission and a new transmission computer as this was all ruined with the catastrophic failure of the radiator. The cost of repairs was $4632. 97 including the tow charge. Nissan has been aware of this problem for quite some time and even settled a class action lawsuit for this very issue a few years ago. Had they voluntarily recalled the vehicle and fixed the problem, my son would not have been put in this dangerous situation and the costs would have been minimized. I desire for Nissan to be held liable for this - you have received literally hundreds of the very same complaint. Please conduct a recall on the Xterra, pathfinders and frontiers you know are impacted. We were fortunate not to have a crash resulting in injury or death; the next family may not be so lucky.
2nd owner of 2005 Nissan Xterra. First had issues with heat not working when at a complete stop, then car would begin to vibrate on the hwy, and now car is having issues up shifting. 2 mechanics have told me the same thing, stating defective radiator was leaking fluid into transmission. Now I must replace both at about $4000. After doing some research online, I have found this is a common issue with this model and Nissan has not issued a recall. Jeopardizing the safety of many and being very costly to those who can not afford a major issue like this.
Vehicle moving along interstate in heavy traffic at 60 mph when acted as if it was shifted into neutral. Almost got hit twice trying to coast to side of road. There was no response to trying to accelerate, shifter still in d position. Engine temperature rose quickly. Shut engine off engine, to prevent a fire. Sit there momentarily, restarted the engine, temp came down, transmission engaged, drove home. Husband investigated and found oily substance in radiator and transmission low in fluid that was a pasty looking material now on dipstick. Refer to the Nissan radiator defect class action lawsuit settlement case is in Nissan radiator/transmission cooler litigation, case no. 10-cv-07493, u. S. District court for the southern district of new york. We were never notified of a recall or the suit, when we would have qualified for assistance from Nissan. Does the state of new york decide reparations to the rest of the country while I am now poor and need a car and can't afford to repair it. How many more failures are out there? includes pathfinder and frontier models. Also discovered VIN number on top of dash was incorrect. Thanks.
I was driving at approximately 65-70mph on a 4 lane highway. Traffic was heavy and cars were at that rate and faster. My vehicle beginning slowing down, I immediately pressed the accelerator but the vehicle continued slowing down. I immediately began making my way over to the breakdown lane. My lights began flickering (both headlights and inside lights). My brake light, abs light, check engine light, etc all popped up on the dash. As I made it to the break down lane the vehicle stopped and in pressing the accelerator, it would not go forward. Next the vehicle then shutoff completely and would not start. I had no warning this was going to take place. Lucky for me, I hadn't gone into the fast lane because I never would have made it into the breakdown lane without a serious accident because it came to a sudden halt.
The engine started to overheat and the vehicle transmission started to shift irratically. There was an oily substance in the coolant reservoir. I contacted the dealership and was told that this is a known condition requiring replacement of the radiator and rebuilding of the transmission. I was told that since there was 101000 miles on the vehicle, that the entire $3800 for repair would have to be borne by me . I tried driiving the vehicle several times afterwards with the same result. It has been parked in front of my house for 6 months now as I don't have the money to repair.
Suddenly the car (automatic) was revving high and not shifting into next gear and starting making ahigher pitched noise and the service engine light then came on. I drove to a gas station and before fully pulling in, my car would not go into drive, revved high and started smoking. I had to get towed and my car is now going to need a complete transmission and radiator. Nissan is saying since I am passed the extended 10 year warranty or 100,000 miles, there is nothing more they will do about it. Currently am being transferred to see if someone else cares enough about Nissans image as well as their drivers to do something about this. I have been quoted it will cost $5100 to repair this Nissan known issue.
I was informed by the dealership service department that radiator fluid had contaminated transmission fluid in my 2005 Nissan Xterra. This defect in the radiator was known to occur in high mileage vehicles such as mine and was known to Nissan as they extended a service warranty to 100,000 miles. Unfortunately my vehicle's mileage is over the extended warranty and I am now responsible for the cost of the repairs. This is a huge safety issue as the transmission plays a vital role in the ability for the vehicle to accelerate into and across traffic on busy highways and roads. The inability to do so properly with a defective transmission may lead to accidents. Not to mention that the contaminated radiator coolant may not accomplish the intended goal of cooling engine components leading to over heating and engine dysfunction. I feel strongly that Nissan new about the defect and did not take appropriate action to notify consumers to have the radiators replaced prior to having complications from the defective parts.
The vehicle was being driven, as normally, to work on the highway. The engine started to accelerate but the vehicle kept slowing down. There was very little power. The vehicle was brought to a Nissan dealer. The mechanic at the shop told me the transmission had been damaged due to a failure of the radiator. The radiator, transmission and trans computer would have to be replaced at a cost of $4500. He also mentioned that this is a problem Nissan knows about but will not cover the repair under a recall or warranty. I took the SUV for a second opinion to a reputable repair shop. He confirmed the findings of the Nissan mechanic and offered to repair the vehicle for $4,140. 47. I agreed to have the vehicle repaired. The mechanic said I should look up a class action suit that has been generated. That is why I am posting this incident.
Check engine light came up in my 2005 Nissan Xterra at 85,000 miles. Took it to the repair shop where I make oil changes, I was told transmission broke and radiator fluid contamination. Took it to the dealer, they confirm that the transmission failure, but they flat out refused the contamination, instead offer to replace both transmission and radiator for $5,500 to avoid future problems. I was not convinced. Immediately, another guy in the dealership offers to trade in for a new car. I took the car out and went to another transmission shop. Sure enough, they noticed radiation fluid contaminating the tranmission fluid. Cost was around $3,750. Because, the deadline was early Jun'2013 and now is early July, they are telling me I cannot submit the claim. I hope the court does not approve the final settlement. Nissan should recall and pay for the repairs of defective transmission/ radiator.
