On a fm road, doing approximately 60 mph. Frontal impact with a guard rail, went over rail, hit tree. Air bags did not deploy. The front passenger seat airbag sensor that detects if there is a passenger present has been malfunctioning. While driving the sensor in the seat will randomly turn the airbag on and off, whether or not there is a passenger present. The huge safety issue is that a passenger may actually be present and sensor will not turn the airbag "on" and in case of an accident, the airbag will not be deployed. And also the passenger airbag could be deployed when it shouldn't be, meaning there is no passenger present, leading to higher repair costs. A friend of mine said his 08 Nissan altima had a recall for the exact same issue. This is a serious safety issue that should be investigated immediately.
