Oil is getting into the radiator and causing a gray gunk build up in radiator and possibly the engine. I have had the car less than a 1 1/2 years and I've already had to have the same issue fixed 3 × first time. The heater hose blew out caused an air bubble in the radiator which caused us to have to burp the radiator which is when we found it the first time had sent it to the mechanic. Had it flushed, had it fixed. It was fine or so we thought until about a month ago. Car overheats radiator fluid spews out everywhere. Fix the hose, add radiator fluid and start. The burping process again and out comes the gray gunk. Sent it back to mechanic had it flush had gaskets to the transmission cooler and oil cooler fixed. Mechanic cannot find how it's getting into radiator. Break pads wear prematurely due to calipers constantly sticking. Rust is everywhere on frame, suspension, shocks undercarriage and body. Vdc/slip light will come on while driving causing the car to stall at any speed. Fixed those sensors 2 times since I bought the car in December 2023 from a used car lot. State I I've in has no laws to protect people buying from used car lots but they do for new cars even though new cars come with warranties. Should be the other way around protect the people who can't afford the 30000 dollar cars. There's a reason we go to used car lots. Paid 4500 after taxes and registration and have put almost 5000 into it. Nissan is aware of the problem just not enough to deem a recall.
The vehicle was driving just fine, then about a month later the heat gauge started to fluctuate, I replaced the radiator caps, thermostat. . . It ran good for another month, started to overheat. . . . I made sure water was in radiator and overflow. . . About a month went by the gauge started to fluctuate again, I had it towed to sayre auto parts in sayre, al to have a water pump installed and the mechanic told me their isnow there is water in my oil, meaning a cracked head gasket. . . The vehicle never got over the 3/4 mark on guage and this is the 2nd vehicle ive purchased that the same thing has hapoened to.
The radiator has cracked at the top which caused me to break down because the car stopped moving.
In March 2019 the transmission started getting sluggish while dropping my daughter at school one day. Eventually it would not switch gears as I pulled in my driveway from my 1. 5 mile trip to/from the school. Eventually it wouldn't even start in my driveway even with good battery. Replaced a fuse for the transmission control module and was able to start the vehicle but it blew the fuse. Had my vehicle towed to our mechanic and he discovered discovered that the coolant mixed with transmission fluid and now I have to replace everything involved. Also, the mechanism that opens the tailgate/trunk door/liftgate will not stay open, especially in colder weather. It has hit several people in the head and is a definite hazard.
I kelp vehicle regularly mantianced shut it off one evening next morning it would start when finally started it wouldn't pull in 1st gear. Took it to transmission shop and found out that a crack had accured and there was coolant mixed with transmission fluid . So 3 days after I pd it off on a 3 yr payment plan it broke down on me . Very hard to find d a placement and someone who will do work on it bc it's so commo.
Timing chain system is failing due to manufacturer defective chain guides. Nissan was aware of the problem and issued a technical service bulletin to its dealers to repair the issue for those who came in, the bulletin is ntb09-128 date November 16, 2009. Nissan knew of the issue and did no issue a recall the fix it for all of those effected.
Engine makes a loud squeal at startup then whines at idle and during acceleration. I took the truck to Nissan for diagnosis and they explained to me the components of the timing chain need to be replaced. The cost for the repair is $2700. Mileage is very low at 62000.
I purchased this vehicle at staten island Nissan exactly two years ago. Since then, I've only put 4,000 miles on it. I've always smelled something a bit awful when first starting the vehicle. During it's last inspection it was determined that it needed new rotors. While getting the rotors replaced, a mechanic who'd formerly worked at Nissan had determined noticed that the secondary timing chain and gasket were bad, causing an internal leak. After brief research, I've discovered that this has been a common problem that Nissan has not been informing their consumers and this is a very dangerous/expensive manufacturer's defect. I've since placed several calls to staten island Nissan and have been receiving the run around. I've also contacted their consumer affairs department who'd informed me to take it to a Nissan dealership to get it inspected. I have to pay for the inspection.
Timing chain failed. Apparently Nissan was aware of the problem and issued a technical service bulletin to its dealers to repair the issue for those who came in, the bulletin is ntb09-128 date November 16, 2009. Nissan knew of the issue and did no issue a recall the fix it for all of those effected. I wan not notified of this bulletin by the dealer and was charged for the repairs.
Stopped at Nissan dealer to trade 2007 Xterra. Dealer told me my timing chain needed to be replaced at a cost of $2,000 to $3,000. Nissan issued technical service bulletin ntb09-128. Independent mechanic told me if chain fails valve train and engine will be ruined and could cause accident if failure occurs while driving.
Engine coolant and transmission fluid mixing causing overheating and transmission failures.
Failed transmission cooler-engine jerks at speeds 40 mph and higher.
I was told timing chain of vehicle needed replacement. The car only had 65,000 miles and this repair is an ongoing problem with Nissan that they are failing to address to consumers. Repairs costing 1,500 plus dollars for repair of engine chain. If ignored, this could cause an extreme safety hazard while driving at a moderate speed. There should be a recall on this service/part.
"check engine" light came on. Diagnostic computer shows error "fuel level sensor circuit high voltage. " this is apparently a very, very common problem. Mechanic says this will eventually, if left un-repaired, destroy my main computer on the car. Repair estimate is $700, which includes a complete change-out of the fuel pump assembly.
Engine coolant got into transmission. Lost control of vehicle for a moment on several occasions. Felt like I hit black ice. Transmission was not working properly.
I am very disappointed and disgusted with the way Nissan has handled this problem. My Xterra 2007's transmission did not go bad until it reached over 120k miles. My wife was driving cross country with my children and all of the sudden she felt the gears slipping while driving in a major interstate. Luckily she was able to drive home safe. I found out shortly after this almost catastrophic experience that there were many complaints regarding Nissans transmission problems. I guess there was a class action lawsuit that only covered vehicles under 100k miles. Why is Nissan only providing assistance to vehicles under 100k miles if there is a there is a defect in the transmission coolant. They should cover any transmission problems regardless of what the mileage is. I took my Xterra to aamco because they charge be thousands of dollars less of what a Nissan dealership would have charged me. I have been a loyal Nissan owner since 2003 and will never buy a vehicle from them again. In fact, I have convinced friends and families not to buy Nissan vehicles because of the poor service that they have provided.
Coolant mixes with transmission fluid and causes car to shudder and fail. This causes a situation in traffic that could cause a crash.
Timins chains wear down too easily.
No failure occurred, though while at the dealership for replacement of a faulty factory part, I was informed of another failing factory part (the timing chain guides) that was a well known and documented problem that Nissan failed to address for its consumers. The cost of the repair was estimated at $1533. 64.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel pump would need to be replaced. The fuel pump was replaced. The contact was then told that the vehicle was also running roughly and the intelligent power distribution module was replaced. The failure did not recur. The failure mileage was 93,348 and the current mileage was 94,800. Updated 03/15/11.
Vdc and slip light come on together at random start up times and will stay on until the motor is turned off. After I turn the motor off, the next time it is turned on just the vdc light will be on. Eventually this will turn off when driving. This has been happening since I bought my 2007 Nissan Xterra and I have taken it in to be fixed twice. Both times a sensor was adjusted, but did not fix the problem. Now that it is out of warranty, the dealership tells me it will cost $1000 to fix?!?!.
