1 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2014

The "check engine" light on my 07 Xterra went off when leaving my garage. Using my scangauge, I found out my engine was showing error code p0463. When we got home I jumped on the net and discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with Xterras. So common in fact, that previous generation Nissans were actually recalled for a similar issue. Unfortunately, no recall has been placed on the part for the 2nd gen yet, and so Nissan customers are being forced to have the dealer make the repair to the tune of about $600. Also it seem like a lot of other people are having the same issue with this faulty part according to the internet.

2 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

My wife refueled her vehicle and the "service engine soon" light came on. The gas gauge then went from full to zero and low fuel light came on. Soon after, the tmps sensor also went out. I thought it might be the gas cap being lose, but it wasn't. The gas gauge will fluctuate between empty and full. This is my wife's car and it is a hazard to be driven on the road, especially if she runs out of gas.

3 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

Ongoing problems with p0463 code and ses light. Fuel sensor does not function correctly, so I of not know how much gas is in my car. Apparently there was a recall on this for the 2006 and 2008, but not the 07? this is dangerous! I do not want to run out of gas while I'm driving!.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

I have researched and found many other have had the same issue with the fuel sensor on 2007 Xterra. Last gen was recalled and they need to recall this year. I have ran out of gas twice already while driving down the highway. I am also having a loud wining noise coming from the engine due to a failed timing chain tensioner. Both these items need to be recalled before somebody gets killed.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

After a check engine light came on the computer showed a code of p0463, fuel level sensor circuit high input. I have read on the internet this is a very common problem with this vehicle. The dealer charges $600 to fix this problem. This needs a recall.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Fuel sensor gives false information, vehicle runs out of gas on the freeway nearly causing fatal accident.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

Service engine light came on then fuel gauge no longer works. Seems to be a recurring problem in Nissans.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

The fuel gauge on my 2007 Nissan Xterra is giving wrong readings , causes engine light to come on and I have gotten stuck without gas twice . . I'm up for smog test in a couple months and because engine light is on due to this problem I'll not be able to get this car register in CA . This should be a recall !.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

Got "check engine light" error code p0463 which is failed fuel sensorprevious generation of Nissan Xterras were recalled for this issue. Repair is ~$600. Vehicle has 67,000 miles. Level sensor now reads unreliably which is a hazard in the winter. Supposedly, the current generation of Xterras have the same issue but there is no recall. Nissan needs to stand behind their vehicles and take care of this issue with a real fix for this issue.

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra with the same fuel gage problem. The gage doesn't register the correct level of gas so I have to keep a close watch. I also get the service engine light and the tire pressure sensor light.

11 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2010

Fuel gauge failed to register after a fill-up - showed empty, check engine light came on shortly afterwards.

12 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

Fuel gauge reads zero after filling up and low fuel warning light is on. Also service engine soon warning light is on. Odb code 0463.

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

The "check engine" light on my Xterra came on while driving. Borrowing an autopart stores computer, I found out my engine was showing error code p0463. After a little research I discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with Xterras and pathfinders.

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

My 2007 Nissan Xterra (47,000miles) just stopped (no power when gas pedal is depressed) while on the freeway during a busy time. . . I had to try to get to the shoulder and was very dangerous. Luckily the cars around me were paying attention and a huge accident was avoided. After researching this on the net, apparently this is common with this vehicle and previous models(which were issued recalls). The fuel sending unit apparently has an issue where it stops sending fuel through to the engine, without any warning or notice. . . . This is life threatening and unacceptable. . This needs to be taken care of before people die at the hands of a faulty 20 dollar part. Please please forward this or add it to the many other complaints I hope are listed. . . And thank you. . So far I have accumulated towing bills, rental car bills, and now have to wait for the weekday until Nissan can "talk" to someone in the tech dept. . The dealerships need to be made aware of this issue and the owners need to be contacted immediately. . .

15 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra with 40,000 miles on it. The vehicle is 3 years old and my fuel level sending unit went bad. Nissan has had a recall on the 2001 to 2003 Xterra for the fuel level sending unit and recently another recall for the same problem; fuel level sending unit for 2006 Xterra. I see that this is an on-going problem and Nissan needs to include the 2007 and possibly even the 2008 and 2009. This is unacceptable for a 3 year old vehicle part to go bad. I was stranded for about 2 hours until my husband could reach me and this is a safety issue with running out of fuel when your gauge is wrong. The "service engine soon" light came on after we ran out of gas. I took the vehicle in to the dealership and it was diagnosed as the fuel level sending unit was bad due to internal short.

16 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Defective fuel sending unit; gas gauge unreliable; "service engine soon" light on.

17 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2010

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The problem I have is with the fuel guage sensor. It started about a year ago and the check engine light comes on and off randomly. Not to mention that when I fill up my vehicle the fuel guage will not sense that its full. It will take a long time or even bottom out showing the light that its empty. I feel that this is very unsual and hard to tell what is wrong with the vehicle. I have been told that it has happen to many other Nissan vehicles.

18 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

Went to the gas station to fill up my 2007 Nissan Xterra. Afterward, the fuel gauge read 3/4 full instead of 100% full, then a few minutes later dropped below "e" and the "service engine soon" light came on. A simple internet search informed me that this is a very common problem with not only 2007 Nissan Xterras, but other years as well, due to a faulty part used by Nissan in the fuel sending unit. I had the error code pulled (p0463) and it came back to the fuel sending unit. Nissan has a technical service bulletin for this code, so they are fully aware of the problem, what the cause of the problem is, and what is necessary to fix it. My car stalled on the freeway the other day in the number two lane, thanks to the fuel sending unit not working properly. I had four children in my car at the time. Luckily, there was quite a bit of traffic so the danger level was low considering we were on the freeway, however if we were not in traffic, things would have been much more serious. Nissan claims that this is not a safety issue and will therefore not issue a recall, however I strongly disagree and feel that my recent experience proves that a faulty fuel sending unit is a safety issue. I was told by a service rep at my dealership that all 2007s were initially a part of the most recent recall for replacing fuel sending units, however Nissan changed the recall to only include certain 2007 Xterra VIN #s, yet 2006 and 2008 models are a part of the recall. Since the recall began, I've been receiving letters every month from my dealership offering to buy the car back from me. This does not sit well with me.

19 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The fuel level gauge dropped from three quarters full to indicate there was only one quarter full. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

20 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I had to pay $362. 49 for replacing a fuel level sensor in my 2007 Nissan Xterra. I understand that this is a common problem with these vehicles and that there is a recall on some of these vehicles. However, my model/VIN is not covered. How can a recall be allowed to skip from one VIN to another if the same part number is used?.

21 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

2007 Nissan Xterra - fuel level sending unit failure - causing fuel gauge to fail with possibility of running out of gas in traffic situation - there is a recall 10v-075 however it is for Xterras 2006 and 2008 excluding 2007's for whatever reason - therefore not recalled by Nissan. Would love to know why. . . 2007 having the exact same problems would be excluded from this recall.

22 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

My Nissan Xterra is having the fuel gauge problem with the fuel level sending unit. At this time its intermittent. I called Nissan and filed a complaint with them they ran my vehicle id # that doesn't show up as one having this problem. They want me to pay for a diagnostic check for the fuel level sending unit and repair. This is a recall item. I was mail a notification r1010 10v-074.

23 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra. My fuel sending unit has failed resulting in failure of my fuel gauge. At times the gauge will show no gas at all, and at other times it will stick at partially full. The gauge is never accurate. This presents an enormous safety problem as the chance of running out of gas on a highway or interstate is greatly increased. This exact same issue was deemed a safety hazard that resulted in recall on Xterra models before and after 2007, as well as other Nissan models made in 2007. If it is a safety hazard for those vehicles, it is a safety hazard for a 2007 Xterra!.

24 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2010

Nissan Xterra 2007 model 1. No specific "event". At roughly 57,000 miles, check engine light came on and fuel gauge stopped working intermittently (shows empty). Is getting worse over time. 2. Occurs every time vehicle is filled. Consequence: do not know how much fuel is in vehicle. 3. Not corrected at this time. Same problem as recent recall on Nissan titan, etc.

25 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2010

This an addendum to complaint conf # 10330608. The check engine light is on in concert with tyhe erratic fuel gauge also.

26 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

Fuel gauge works erratically, sometimes stays at 1/4 other times will go to 1/2, and never seems to warn of empty.

27 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

Fuel gauge sensor went out. Vehcile inaccurately displays that the vehicle still has some fuel. Vehicle has stalled due to this issue.

28 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2010

My gas gauge sensor went out at 50,000 miles. The service engine light came on to let me know. The gas gauge is completely in accurate which opens me up to the possibility of becoming stranded.

29 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Service light appears due to fuel gauge. After fueling the vehicle to full, the fuel gauge will read empty and empty fuel light will appear.

30 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

My fuel gauge started acting weird my service engine light came on so I took my Xterra to my mechanic he told me it was a code for (fuel level sending unite) he cleared code. In a few days it was back on. My mechanic told my fuel sending unite needs to be replaced. It is a very costly repair.

31 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

Faulty fuel gauge. Readings are erratic, and inaccurate. P0463 codes used for diagnostics. Dealer has not included this vehicles as part of the recall but it is having the same problems as other vehicles included in the recall.

32 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Fuel level sending unit stopped working shortly after warranty ran out. Spoke to dealership about it and they have had multiple Xterras and frontiers with the same issue. Nissan issued a recall for some but not all of the affected vehicles, and unfortunately mine is one of ones that is not covered.

33 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

I got the service engine soon so I took it to autozone to scan it and it gave the code p0463. I was looking around and found hundreds of people having the same problem as me. Is there anyway this could be fixed by Nissan with no cost to me since so many people are having the same problem.

34 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

My fuel sensor no longer works. Once the sensor gets to half full it sudden drops to empty. There's currently a recall from Nissan on this but does not cover the month my truck was manufactured. I drive in very remote areas and if my fuel gauge is misleading there's a great chance I'll run out of gas to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. I'm very worried about having my wife drive the vehicle and getting stranded without access to help.

35 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

Vehicle fuel level gauge does not work. Pegs high then goes low. Causes check engine light to come on. Car cannot pass emissions test due to faulty sensor. 2006 and 2008 Nissan Xterra have had a recall on this component. I do not understand why not the 2007 which has the exact same component.
