The front passenger seat of my 2000 Alero has stopped latching in place and freely moves on the rails on the floor board. This happen right after I bought the car and it was replaced, and now the replacement is doing the same thing. I can not drive with a passenger in the front because it is not safe.

We were involved in an accident in Sep 2004. Another vechile was knocked into our vechile and my wife's seat did not remain locked in position. He seat slammed forward and my wife received fractures to her leg, and foot. Along with a tear in the mincus of her knee. I have requested that gm look into this isse with the seat, but I do not feel that they are really concerned about the issue.
The vehicle's passenger seat slid back and forth on the track without warning. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide any additional information.

1) safety issue- no accident yet, but my 2001 Alero has a small rod that sticks out in front of the drivers seat for the seat to move forward and backward. The problem is when I was wearing a pair of nike shoes that have a loop on the back of the shoe got caught around this seat adjuster. Scared me to death almost when I could not re-act with my right foot to hit the brakes. Note: this happened while I was traveling with crusie control activated. I see this as an accident waiting to happen for somebody now, because it almost got me. 2)currently this vehicle is in the shop again for electrical problems. When it rains the instrument panel goes crazy. Currently they think that there may be a moisture problem around the sun roof, so they are ordering parts to totally replace the sun roof, but I dodn't think that is the problem. I have never had one drop of water drop on me with that sun roof, nor have I seen any wet spots around the roof liner. They have replaced the main computer under the hood, and clusters in the dashboard as well. But the problem is still there, so I hope this sun roof thing cures it. But I have some serious doubts it will.
The rear drivers side seat has come detached. It is possible to lift the seat up, and I can see no way to re-attach it. It seems unsafe in the event of an accident. Dt.

Vehicle has been taken in to the dealership 6 times due to the seat leaning to the right and the seat reclining while driving. Dealer has made one attempt to fix the problem but seems to still have the same problems. . . On going problem.
Front seat does not lock in position, front driver side bearing defective, driver power window malfunctions.
The passenger seat does not lock into place adequately. It rolls forward and backward anytime it is adjusted and must be manually locked into place after each adjustment to prevent rolling. The possible dangers included losing footing when stepping into the vehicle to sit down and the seat rolls back and rolling forward when braking into the front windshield.
Both front seats have a razor sharp edge under the front seats where the rear passengers put their feet. My daughter, while wearing sandels cut her foot on it. Leather shoes have been damaged also. The factory will not alow the dealer to deburr the edges. They say it would violate federal law. Material was glued on and fell off. The car in the showroom has the same problem. We are having no success with the factory in solving the problem.
