1 Tire problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/26/2009

Hazard and turn signals intermittently fail; same as the 2001. . . There was a recall for this issued on the 2001, but not the 2002? I lose my turn signals approximately 2-3 times per 10 mile trip. I have not been involved in an accident due to this malfunction. . . Yet. No repairs seem to fix the problem. The incident date is the last time this problem occurred (I haven't driven the car for a few days), but it has actually been going on for over 2 years. Apparently this is a common problem with the Alero's reguardless of the model year. The vehicle also won't start when it rains, and shuts down while driving. The trunk opens by itself, and the door locks don't always work. Sometimes the stereo won't turn on, and most recently the driver's door window won't open. I replaced the wheel house assembly 3 times in two years. This car is an electrical nightmare! frequently it won't start because it thinks I'm trying to steal it. I also put air in all my tires at least once a week because they won't hold air. . . Apparently there is a problem with the wheels. I have to manually check the tires because the warning light for low tire pressure is also an electrical malfunction.

2 Tire problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

When I first bought this car the backseats were not attached to the car. The dashboard is pealing up all the way and the paint is gone from my gear shift. Both driver side and passenger windows have stopped working. The driver side I had to get fixed for inspection cost about $300. Tires and brakes need replaced constantly. Lights on the dash light up for no apparent reason. Blinkers don't work most of the time and when they do it is this horrible loud clicking noise. Cd player/radio stop working randomly. Ac only works on 3rd setting. Rear defrost does not work at all. Fog lights will not turn on and bulbs are brand new. Trunk will not open with button from inside car or keyless entry. My trunk randomly comes open for no reason and once would not latch to shut for a few days but then randomly latched shut. Car leaks water in the front and back. Recently my car won't start everytime it rains. I took it to an auto place and they ran it through the computer and couldn't find anything. Now it's at a windsheild place because the mechanic says its leaking water into fuse box. Glass place is saying that is not it either. I am at my wits end. It dries out and will start and as soon as it rains will not start. I don't want to pay another mechanic to have this fixed. I see where others have complained about fuses and waters leaks. I have had it towed twice in the last 2 weeks and had $600 worth of work done on my car. I cannot afford to buy a new car. I'm very aggitated that so many people have complained about this car and nothing has been done about it. I even complained to the bbb about the dealership I bought it from to no avail. Why is nothing being done?.

3 Tire problem of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

Bought car in 2006, have had problems the entire time I've owned vehicle. Car does not crank, must wait 10 minutes and try to restart. Sometimes car does not start still, makes me wait another 10 min. Had multiple problems with system killing the battery while waiting - especially in winter, even with all extras (including heat) turned off. Not safe to have female in parking lot when car does not start! this happens two or three times some days, then will not reappear for a week or two, but theft light stays on dash constantly.

The driver noticed that the right front tire deflated on it's own. This caused the consumer to put air in the tire daily. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an inspection. Please provide further details.

6 Tire problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 05/01/2003

I bought my Oldsmobile Alero new in July of 2000. Within a few months after purchase I started taking it back to the dealer due to a grinding noise that would happen when I was driving at slower speeds or turning. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong, but suggested I may need new brakes. I was not satisfied with this response since the car was less than one year old and I don't drive any more than the average driver. I then started taking it to a closer dealer (this one was a gm dealer and not specifically Oldsmobile). After several visits they told me my brake pads were worn down and needed replaced. By this point it was 2002 and my car had about 20,000 miles on it. I still wasn't sure I agreed with it, but I let them replace my brakes. Still heard the noise. I can't even count how many times my car has been to the two dealerships for the same grinding noise. The last time I had it in was in may of 2003. They finally told me about a bulletin regarding tire size and told me this was causing the noise. This bulletin came out a year prior to this service visit and they had looked at my car numerous times. Now I'm having trouble with the rotors and from what I've read a lot of other people are too. When I apply the brakes, it feels like the car is jerking to a stop. I think Oldsmobile or gm needs to own up to the defect and replace the rotors for those of us who are unlucky enough to own one of their Aleros.

7 Tire problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 01/09/2003

My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero has had serious problems with it since purchasing it in June of 2002. To date, I have had to replace my waterpump, intake manifold gasket, tires, brakes and rotors consistently (three or more times ayear) . The most recent problem is my gas gauge will indicate that I have 1/4 tank and to my surprise the car will not start unless more fuel is added. The engine also sounds rough, I have both service engine lights on, along with my low tire pressure, anti lock brake light on and I have new tires, replaced a gas cap, and the lights went off, but then come back on. I am also positive that my car will not pass inspection. The cosmetic defects are that of the dash board starting to peel and come loose. I have read up on that gm responded to a problem with all 2000 Oldsmobile Aleros about the gas problem and I contacted the dealer dorschel and spoke with service manager lou, gm agreed to add a different filter so that the gas was draining back into the tank, it was also mentioned in the article that dealers could be fined thousands of dollars daily if not complied with, but because it was not an actual recall, the dealer denied my request to fix. After reading the multiple complaints about these vehicles, I am shocked that they have not been recalled, the should be as they are not safe cars in my opinion. I am challenging you to take a ride in my car with your family and see if you feel safe, because not only am I out 13,000 that I paid for the car, but also if I have to estimate probably another 6,000 in repairs. That is ridiculous. I expect a written response from your office within 30 days of what you intend to do to investigate these problems. Not only read my letter, but you should google in 2000 Oldsmobile Aleros and see the disgust of performance people are complaining of.

8 Tire problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/07/2002

Driving at 40 mph on dry road when right rear tire came off of car causing loss of control of vehicle. Vehicle rolled over twice total loss of vehicle. On investigation it was noted that the right rear tire that had come off was still intact meaning no blow out and lug nuts were still in place but on the back side of the tire you could see where the spindle had separted from the strut housing causing the tire to come off the car. Also, on the left rear of the car. That tire remained attached to the car but pulled up and away from its attachment with the same defect noted at the spindle separation from the strut housing. I have pictures of all these details and have had several certified technicians look at the car and they have all come up with the same consensus that the separation of this spindle from the strut housing is what made the tire come off and thus causing loss of control of the vechile and total loss of the vehicle as deemed so by the insurance company. I suffered 2 fractured ribs, a ruptured tendon of the ac joint in my left shoulder and back pain that I am currently being treated for. I am out on disability because of these injuries. I am a registered nurse. Thankfully, my children were not in the car with me at the time of the accident. I fear that this might happen to someone else and lives could be lost. Dt.

9 Tire problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 09/14/2002

I purchased a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero in June of 2002, since the purchase I have had nothing but mechanical issues. The first being brakes/rotors being replaced twice a year, then my head gasket went, tires wear too quickly, and now my service engine light, abs light, no traction light (which does not work), change oil light is on, and now I am having problems with my wheel bearings, and cv joints, the car actually makes grinding noises when turning to the left and often sounds and feels as if I have a flat tire. I have had all of these repairs done and the car was fine for 1 week and now all of the problems are back except for the head gasket. Did I mention I also had to have the power steering pump replaced as well, I feel that for the price I paid and the research I have done, there are many others that are having the same difficulty as me, when I read others problems, I feel like I am reading about my car. This was my first car I had ever purchased and feel that mine and my family's safety is at risk because you never know when something is going to happen and I am about out of money replacing parts. Please look into anyone who owns a Oldsmobile Alero and give me some advice. Thank you.
