1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

Headlights flicker really bad, usually when vehicle isn't at temperature and accelerating. I usually watch my digital voltmeter and my voltage jumps from 12 volts to 15. 5 (normal operating voltage is usually 14. 8) almost instantly back and forth. I drove it on its first long distance run of about 80 miles and after my lights flickered for about 3 minutes the check engine light popped on. I just bought this car a month ago and while I was reading the maintenance log the alternator has just been replaced.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora

Failure Date: 02/08/2005

1. Driving to work in the morning with the headlights on 2. Alternator amps charging from 13. 2 - 15. 7 amps, headlights and instrument lights will flicker when this is happening. 3. Replaced generator, 1 10464442 w-gen rem part number 10464442 this was done on may 9, 2003. Service manager said it was because of an air pump for the anti polution system on the Aurora with v6 engines, that draws alot of amps and that the generator could not compensate fast enough. In February of this year the same thing happened. I again had the generator replaced etc. . The service manager reported to me that the headlights would not go totally out. . . !!! and that the only way to make sure that it didn't happen again was to disconnect the pump but that the check engine light would go on!! I opted to not do this. I think this is a dangerous situation and I ask you to look into this.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

Failure Date: 04/15/2003

We purchased a used 2001 olds Aurora in March 2003. We also purchased the extended warranty offered by the dealer. Shortly after we purchased this vehicle we noticed the headlights and interior lights flucuating wildly (as if we were turning off the headlights) along with the voltage. The dealer said this was "normal". It got so bad my husband refused to let me drive the car, even during the day in the event the car shut off. We took the car to another olds dealer who, at our request, replaced the voltage regulator, to no effect. This has happened at least 4 additional times. The dealer says they can find nothing wrong with the car, but the lights continue to flash, and now other electrical problems are surfacing, along with numerous blown fuses and bulbs. It is quite distracting to other drivers on the road, in addition to this cars driver, to have the headlights flash constantly, and does nothing to inspire trust in the safety of this car. I am afraid it will shut off while being driven, or possibly have some sort of electrical fire.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora

Failure Date: 02/02/2002

54,697 miles, throttle sticking. 62000 miles, engine misfiring, spark plugs replaced. 63k miles, serpintine belt broke. 68,560 miles, service engine soon light came on. Input speed sensor inside transmission needed replacement. Internal harness found to be leaking fluid past terminals to outside of transmission which in turn caused saturation of external harness also. Air conditioning also not working. At 69,356 miles the alternator had to be replaced and the steering wheel colomn broke. The tow truck man tried to turn the wheels when the power steering was gone because of the altenator going out. The altenator died while I was driving but I was able to pull to the side before losing all power. The tow truck man did not put excessive force on the steering wheel. The steering wheel was flopping around loose. A pin had come loose and had to be replaced. The dealer said it could have easily happened while I was driving the car, causing an accident. We sold the car.
