Cruise Control Problems of Oldsmobile Aurora

The contact owns a 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora. The contact stated the vehicle would intermittently surge forward while driving at various speeds until the brakes were applied. The failure also occurred when the cruise control was engaged. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the throttle body control was replaced. The failure continued. The failure mileage was 110,000.

Oldsmoblie Aurora 2001 had idle problems. Under various conditions the vehicle would not return to idle and in some instances the vehicle's rpm's would increase. The problem persisted on and off for two years. The dealer replaced the cruise control but that did not correct the problem. Once the dealer replaced the throttle position sensor the problem was alleviated.

After engaging cruise control on the highway, vehicle would not disengage from cruise control and/or continued with the accelerator stuck. The vehicle came to a stop after hitting another vehicle and being turned off. When trying to turn the vehicle on again (in park) the accelerator raced and could not be driven.

While driving vehicle suddenly accelerated. Driver had to apply brakes very hard in order to stop vehicle, which may have resulted in a crash. Oldmovile hot line said it may have been the cruise control. Currently vehicle at the dealer. Dealer is unable to find the cause for sudden acceleration of the vehicle.
