I have had my 2002 Aurora for 2 years and have had to take it to the dealer almost a dozen times for various reasons. None of them have been about the engine. This car has been a problem from the very first day I picked it up at the dealer. It had a defective paint job and they had to repaint the car. Replaced the windshield twice because it was defective. The most annoying thing is a loud snapping noise from the front right side of the car which they cannot fix. I had the car in for repair for this at least 6 times. There is a clicking noise (like a loud clock) coming from under the center of the dash. There is a squealing noise from the front right of the car when you first accelerate from a stand still. To date, nothing can be done to fix the car. The headlights flicker constantly. Most of the time the dealer said they cannot re-create the noises.
Jack supplies as accessory equipment failed to lift the auto in an emergency situation which required the tire to be changed. The jack actually buckeled in the effort to raise the auto. There was no lateral movement of the vehicle. I was quite lucky that the vehicle did not fall on me or on its wheel assembly. Has anyone looked at this equipment. It is quite minimal and unsafe. Thanks for your help.
After vehicle comes to a complete stop it will launch forward. Consumer had vehicle serviced several time for the same problem dealership unable to fix problem. Please provide more details. Ts.
Program began w/ "check engine" light coming on. Took to dealer (6/10/02); code indicated air pump seized up & found 50 amp air pump fuse blown. Traced to circuit. Replaced exhaust valve, secondary air injection pump & sai vacumm control solenoid. Car returned 6/12/02. When arrived home, smelled burning and heard noise under hood running like a small motor. Returned to dealer that evening: smell and noise gone. Called dealer next day to report and agreed w/ them may have been 'break-in' of parts. "check engine" light came on again following week. Took to dealer 6/21 and found same problem and replacement parts had actually burned and melted. New parts ordered: air pump, relay, connector and replaced in vehicle. On way home, smelled strong burning smell. Pulled off interstate to turn around to return to dealer. Upon going on surface streets, another driver yelled my car was on fire. Pulled off road into a lumber yard parking lot and car burst into huge flames incl. 3 small explosions. Fire department indicated fire was electrical in nature and started at wiring box. Also replacement parts possible source of fire. Car towed back to dealer. Dealer contacted gm who contacted me. Car is under warranty (5 yr/60,000 miles). Gm indicated after speaking w/ dealer, they would purchase vehicle back and provide a replacement. However, gm to date hasn't provided any written documentation stating their verbal commitment to give us another car. Phone calls to their office go unanswered. The car has been removed from the dealer's lot (cover up?) and no one can tell us where it went. Our insurance company can't even investigate if we decide to file a claim with them. Gmac is still sending us car payment due notices & wasnot informed the car had caught fire and is completely totalled. We are very dissatisfied w/ gm's response to this problem and think this is a serious, dangerous defect. Gm's claim #: s1-10752551. I hope you can be of some assistance. Thank you.
Paint is minor, except dealer did paint car left front fender new and since then clear coat has rubbed off. Air is another. 3 times under warranty untill failure at 107,000. $1400 for new compressor, hoses and to make up for bad deakler work. Car now has intermittent air failure, shutting off and re-start cause compressor to come back on.

Purchased a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora new in August of 1997. Car was/is fully loaded and maroon in color. Over the years, starting about 2001, the paint began to fade and peel. Discussions with local dealer went nowhere. Now, may 2005, car has about 70,000 miles and looks like a peeling sunburnied victim. Dealer still says ther is nothing they can do and that Oldsmobile won't warranty the paint, even though it was obviously a poor paint job from day one. Estimates by body shops to repaint very high as they quote the need for an "acid wash" to fully remove all the underlying contamination and properly prepare the surface to retain paint.
Chimes sound with out key being in the ignition.
Oil level indicator light stays illuminated while the vehicle is in motion, and occasionally vehicle leaks oil. Dealer has changed oil, and inspected vehicle .
The auto has a convience package which consists of a mirror, compass, and onstar. The owner has tried to get the personal calling feature of onstar connected since April 2001. So far I have been provided a phone number 400 5847 a letter giving me 100 free minutes, but as of this date oct1 2001 no service connection. As on star is a hands free cell phone the lack of service is a safety item as it prevents driver distraction. Onstar indicates that there is a system defect and it will be corrected soon but five months is not soon. Did they field a system with a known deficiency? help me please. Nosafetyndefect.
Cup holder is fully extended out, this prevents vehicle from going into first gear.
