Traveling apx 5-10 mph down a hwy slowing down and approaching an intersection with traffic light the engine stalled/quit completely and would not restart. I had to push the vehicle with help to the side of the road. After about 15 minutes the engine restarted. This vehicle was recalled for this issue several years ago (rc 04048) and was taken to the dealer by myself on 1/21/05 as soon as I was notified of the recall. Looking at the invoice that I still have in my files today it claims a wire jumper harness and strap was installed. Seems like this fix has failed.

Internal piece (part number?) of the throttle body (21247) attached to the throttle plate (21465) that is held in by (2) rivets. The 2 rivets failed causing whatever was there to get sucked into the intake manifold. I have the old part with the broken rivets. This was not caused by any foreign object. The total for the repair = $1360. 00.

Tires are wearing uneven, cannot be balanced. Tires were replaced, shocks and struts replaced twice. Cv joint was replaced as well. Dealer is unable to remedy the problem. Oil leaking from front shock, shock was replaced. Banging noise on drivers side front when going over bumps. Strut was leaking and was replaced. Brakes failed while driving resulting in a rear end collison. Brake pdal feels mushy. Passenger side fog light out. Blown fog lamp bulb replaced. Replaced failed passenger front turn signal bulb. Driver and passenger power mirror will not move left or right. Mirror switch replaced. Front bumper cover is loose and rattles. Grinding, clunking and whining when going over bumps or making turns. Steering shaft replaced. Transmission leaking. Replaced rear main seal, removed 02 sensor and converter due to damage. Surging problem with the engine. Dealer could not duplicate.
My vehicle had a complete loss of power while driving. It happened more than once prior to taking it in to the dealership. No dash board lighting, no power steering, no acceleration and braking was very difficult. If I tapped on the steering column the power would sometimes come back on. I do have the paperwork from 2001 when the ignition switch was replaced at the dealership. I believe the ignition problem goes back further that gm knows.
Lost all guages after all dashboard lights came on then went out; also lost power, engine rpm's shot up to 3000 from normal 2000.
Vehicle was stopped in front of curbing, for service. Before engaging "park" engine roared and lunged vehicle thru dealership brickwork.
The metal plate on the throttle body assembly cracked causing my 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada to accelerate continuously to a speed of 100 miles per hour. The mechanic described the result as red lining. This occurred while driving on the highway. Breaking only slowed the car down momentarily.

I purchased this car on June 13,2001 and have continual problems with the engine and acceleration of the car. When you accelerate to change lanes the rpms respond, but the car does not accelerate it is as if the link between the two component is malfunctioning. I have had this car for 4months and it has been 17 days in the repair at the dealership. I have concern that with the car instantly dying that I could be the cause of an accident, and result in injury to my family, others on the highway or myself. Oldsmobile needs to research the problem and identify a solution before there is serious injury from this power train failure.
The throttle body assembly malfunctioned and jammed while the consumer's son was driving on the highway which caused unwanted acceleration. The driver put the gear into neutral, secured the emergency brake and turned the ignition off. The failed part remained in the consumer's possession. The rivets on the half moon deflector attached to the lower throttle body butterfly cracked and caused the butterfly to jam open, which kept the vehicle at high speed. The dealer stated the failure was caused by metal fatigue.
