1 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

The contact owns a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. While driving approximately 5 mph and turning the steering wheel, the contact heard a popping sound. The contact stated the sound was heard anytime a turn was made. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was a recall NHTSA campaign id number: 03v527000 (steering: rack and pinion) but the vehicle was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2005

The driver had difficulty making left turns. When turning left the steering gets hard and the driver was unable to steer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide further details.

3 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

While turning the steering wheel towards the right it locked up and caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. Please provide any additional information. The consumer was informed the problem was due to a defective rack and pinion as stated in the recall.

4 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

The consumer is disabled which precludes her from driving 30-40 miles to the nearest Oldsmobile dealer to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was included in a rack and pinion recall and the consumer wanted to take the vehicle the nearest Chevrolet dealer to have it repaired. The consumer was informed by the Chevrolet dealer's service dept that the repairs could not be done there.
