Eight problems related to gasoline engine have been reported for the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2000

At time, my car will not start; the dash lights, air, radio, etc. Come on, but the engine will not turn over. After a few minutes and continually turning the ignition on, it finally will start. This hapened for the first time 4/13/00. After it started, I went immediatly to the Oldsmobile dealership (mcgough). They could find nothing wrong. This happened again 7/26/00. I took my car to mcgough the following day. They replaced the ignition switch and said this had been the problem. Car would not start 7/28/00. Took it to mcgough the following day. On advice of technical assistance (engineer), they checked and tightened all connections and terminal ends. Car would not start again on 8/11/00. Took car to mcgough the following day. They could find nothing wrong. Mcgough told me the second time I had my car in for this problem that there were several other Intrigues in this area with the exact same problem and they had been unable to pinpoint what the problem. My conern is that one of these time, the car will not start at all even after several attempts. There has got to be something causing this problem. It is very inconvenient to leave my car for an entire day (four times so far) and have nothing done to alleviate the problem. I would like to know if you have had other complaints with this problem.

4 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2000

Engine/transmission whine reported to dealer at 31360 miles (dealer could not duplicate). Transmission failed at 40976 miles (engine revs rose and car slowed - on interstate at 65 mph), transaxle replaced and whine no longer present. Even out of warranty, Oldsmobile paid hafl of the $2800. 00 bill, but feel that failure at this mileage is totally unacceptable. Complaint to olds at their web site got a response that they are sorry, its out of warranty. Bearing in hvac motor failed at 34909 miles. Clunk in steering fixed by replacement of steering rack and interim shaft.

5 Gasoline Engine problem

Engine buring oil.

6 Gasoline Engine problem

While drinving at highway speeds engine will suddenly die. This has happened several times. Dealer has been contacted.

7 Gasoline Engine problem

This car has died four times in ten months, three of these in the last six weeks. The dealer has been unable to duplicate the problem in spite of having the car for at least 14 days. After 1/2 hour the car starts again with no problem. They replaced a fuel valve but the car failed again after that. I need reliable transportation and can no longer trust the reliability of this car. What can I do???? help??????.

8 Gasoline Engine problem

The vehicle cuts off at random times. Has to sit for awhile to be started again. Sometimes it will cut off again after less than 3 miles. Dealer cant find the problem.
