Traveling on us 278 in bluffton, SC at 8pm on 11/23/2001. Us 278 is a divided 4 lane highway with left exits. I am in the left lane traveling west at 55mph. The car directly in front of me takes the left exit lane, then changes his/her mind and pulls back into the left lane towards my vehicle. I brake and swerve into the right lane. I feel a shudder in the rear, the vehicle tends to roll to the left, the vehicle then fishtails and spins ending facing east (180 deg. ) on the grass shoulder. The left front and rear tires had separated from their rims. The front tire was partially inflated, but chunks of grass was between the tire bead and rim. The police officer on the scene remarked that he had never seen anything like it! s l e ind y in front. (tiresize: p225/60r16).
