Dash Wiring Problems of Oldsmobile Silhouette

While driving, lights including the dashboard and headlights will dim or completely short out for seconds at a time. This has happened since 2001. The vehicle has been checked by dealer three times.

The car did not catch fire but the dash started smoking. The dash was melted in a couple of places. A friend of ours had the same make and model of van that started fire in their garage and burnt down the garage. The person who worked on this said it was getting very hot and if it started smoking again to get out because it would probalby catch fire.

Engine check light and oil light were illuminating on dashboard. After inspection of engine and oil lever there seemed to be no problem with either. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.

Problem #1. Electrical harness failure resulted in repeated engine shutdowns without warning while vehicle was in motion. Problem #2 resulted in sudden loss of electrical power to all interior and exterior lamps at night while car was traveling at about 30mph.

A/c does not cool. Rear a/c does not work at all after 4 attemps to fix. Vehicle makes a load noise on cold start. Interior and exterior lights dim off and on.
