1 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 02/02/2009

I was no the freeway and there is a lot of construction so there is no where to pull over the car got really hot. I was trying to get off the freeway as I was going on the off ramp the car temp all the sudden went red then engine had stopped. I had my girls in the car. They where very scared. Come to find out the head gasket went out for the second time. It went out just after I bought the car it was at 41000 mile now at 120000 it goes out again it is now going to cost me another $1700 to fix it. I have read a lot of complaints about this problem why have you not look in to this problem. Is it a safety problem these car heat up insteadly an the engine has a fail safe that shuts it off. If it would have shut off a few moments earlier I would have still been on the freeway and I would have been hit.

3 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 09/05/2006

Vehicle started overheating on short trips to the store(1-2 miles). Thought the problem was the thermostat however when taken to mechanic found out that it was the intake manifold that has leaking and had to be replaced. I called Oldsmobile ref to the problem to inquire about TSB # 030601010 or 030601010b and was told that there had never been a bulletin.

4 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 03/07/2006

Was told that my intake manifold gasket was starting to rust and would need to be replaced eventually. Service dept. Mgr at midway chevy in plainwell, mi told me he would keep an eye on it at every oil change (this went on for at least 3 months). March 7th my coolant level low light came on. Husband checked the level and the reservoir was empty and all gummy in bottom. Said it needed to be flushed and refilled. Took to non-gm dealer since it was after hours and knew the owner would take care of in morning. He called and said the manifold had to be replaced as the coolant had leaked internally and externally. The repair cost was $607. 00.

5 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

Our 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette has had numerous issues. The issues are placed in a close chronological order. All events have occurred after 50k miles with the exception of the power door locks. The dealer took care of all recalls. The power door locks intermittently lock and unlock. This problem has been to the dealer over 4 times. The first time the dealer replaced ignition switch wiring harness and the last time the dealer replaced a chafed wire under the passenger seat. The other times the dealer could not isolate. The problem still occurred. We got tired of bringing it to the dealer. The drivers side seat heater had failed. At 66k miles, the transmission went out. It was due to a faulty sun gear. I had to replace tie rods on the vehicle twice on each side. Once around 70k and once around 115k. The fuel ascending unit failed around 90k. On the passenger side I had to replace the wheel bearings and the cv axle. Lights in the heater controls have blown and the only way to replace them is to solder new bulbs onto the control module. The blower motor failed on 1st and 2nd speed. We experienced the same engine overheating issues as seen by other individuals at mycarstats. Com. This relates to the cooling system. I had three separate issues stemming from this. The first failure was a blown head gasket. About 8 months later the upper manifold gasket blew. Six months later another cooling system failure blamed on the lower intake manifold. Many of the repairs where costly. The lower intake manifold failure was never fixed. We decided to pass this gm piece of junk on. It had 137k miles. Most of the miles driven where highway, very few city and stop-and-go.

6 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette

No air conditioning!.

7 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 01/07/2005

At 63000 miles my 3. 4 l engine began leaking coolant at the intake manifold. My mechanic and two others told me that this is typical of 3. 1 and 3. 4 l gm engines and that the company realizes that it has a design flaw because the replacement gasket has been re-engineered and the replacement bolts. The repair was done at a non gm repair shop and cost me $796. 22.

8 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 09/15/2004

There is a very foul odor that emits from the a/c unit on my 2003 olds Silhouette van. I'm concerned that this may be some sort of bacterial/fungus growth that may be mainifesting itself in the a/c unit. I don't want people getting seriously ill before some sort of corrective action is taken. What is the best course of action that I need to take? the dealership (earl Oldsmobile, cleveland, OH) is not taking this problem seriously. Please advise, thank you.

Sludge in radiator and coolant expansion tank on my 2000 Oldsmobile silhouet the owners manual states that it should be replaced every 5 years or 150,000 miles but now I'm faced with repairs that I don't know how much they are going to cost me. 11 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 03/20/2004

My 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette, with 48k miles on it, has had a slow coolant leak for the past few weeks. I plan to contact the manufacturer.

12 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Failure Date: 03/19/2004

Overheating/cooloing system/intake gasket failure on a 1998 oldmobile sillhoette van with a 3. 4 ltr v-6 engine. Low coolant light first came on about March 12th, 2003 during a long cross-country trip. Engine not overheating so I purchased some dex-cool to add to system. No visible leaks. Engine overheats in February of 2004. Changed thermostat assuming it to be problem (no heat but hot engine). There were no other warning lights. Weeks past and system not working properly but not getting overheated. Finally taken to mechanic were he immediately suggested the intake manifold gasket as a common prolem. Van taken to gm dealer for several repairs ($1700) including intake manifold gaskets, water pump, complete cooling system dex-cool flush and other maintenance. We drove the van about 30 miles and experienced another severe overheating episode. The van was towed back to the dealer and I began doing some research on the internet. Research led me to this site. It is obvious this is no isolated incident and I feel general motors has been grosely negligent in accepting resposibility.
