Front Seat Recliner problems of the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Four problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2001

Seat back frame broke near hinge bracket; hinge bracket spot weld broken also; failed as driver was entering vehicle in a parking lot, with very little weight on seat back. Evidently the seat back frame was progressively cracking for awhile prior to incident. Parts were saved and are available for inspection.

2 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2000

I was stopped with my foot on the brake. A truck hit me from the rear and knocked me into the car in front of me. My head hit the steering wheel breaking a small bone in my nose and brusing it and my upper lip and gums. I hit my left inside knee which was bruised and hurt. Xrayed, both mouth and knee and neck. The belt did not restrain me. The seat was thrown to a reclining position and I could not, after I came to my senses, make the lever work to upright the seat. The officer had to get in back seat and push it up with his feet. I have a report with that officer's name on it. The report did not mention this problem. Air bag did not deploy, but may have been the kind of hit it was. The van is totaled. Thanks for any information you can shed on this so no one else has this problem. Thank you, jm.

3 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 06/29/1998

Vehicle was rearended. Upon impact, the middle bench seat was dislodged from tracks and anchors. Manufacturer has inspected the vehicle.

4 Front Seat Recliner problem

Failure Date: 03/19/1997

The bench seat release levers failed.
