Speed Control Springs problems of the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Four problems related to speed control springs have been reported for the 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Springs problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2002

Clock spring failure caused inoperable horn and cruise control and air bag light to stay on. These problems prevented the vehicle to pass utah safety inspection.

2 Speed Control Springs problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2001

Air bag light on the instrument panel is illuminated and will not go off. Cruise control feature fails to operate, and horn does not work. Dealership examined vehicle and determined clockspring assembly in the steering column has failed, and was causing these problems. Please provide any additional information / documentation.

3 Speed Control Springs problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2001

While driving at 65 mph cruise control and horn stopped working, consumer not sure about airbag light. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly.

4 Speed Control Springs problem

This clockspring assembly failed over a period of time, begining in about 2000 with the cruise control failure. This was followed by the airbag failure, as manifested by the airbag check lamp remaining on. Finally, the horn failed to work. I subsequently replaced the clockspring assembly this month, which repaired all the above problems. I have the defective clockspring, and am willing send it to you for analysis if you so desire.
