Received recall notice from Chrysler dealership with corporate program headquarters postmark notification # cjd62709 for 1998 Plymouth Voyager but neither customer service at number indicated or manufacturer has any information regarding problem. Driver(s) of this vehicle left clueless and is now safety hazard operating vehicle.
Air conditioner failed, needs new condenser took in for air conditioner repair, mechanic found rusted strut towers and rust through on plate on driver's side. Recommended vehicle unsafe to drive. Mechanic said even if it could be repaired, he would recommend "scrapping" the car as he wouldn't want his family driving something like that. Vehicle was purchased new in 1999. It is a 1998 Plymouth grand Voyager, espresso. It has fairly high miles (150,000), but should not have rusted through in only six years!!!!!.
I returned to the van after grocery shopping, got in and buckled my seat belt. I turned on the ignition and placed the van in reverse to back out of the handicap parking spot closest to the store. Before I could react, the engine began to race at high speed sending me and the van backwards! I was trying to reach for the key to turn off the engine while turning in a circle twice knocking down a tree and coming to a stop when the rear of the van hit the brick building. I was then able to turn off the engine. No earlier problem like this has ever happened but there have been repeated attempts to repair our cruise control which never worked during the time we've owned the van. The van has yet to be checked by the insurance company.
Air bag light stays on and horn does not work.
Water entering rear interior though speakers and power adapters.
The headlight assembly has become very cloudy significantly reducing visibility at night thereby creating a safety hazard. I work in the automotive textile fabric division of a company that does business with Chrysler, as well as other mfg. And our fabrics must meet stringent lightfastness requirements as specified by the oem. (by the way the seats look great) the plastics industry should be subject to even higher requirements as this poses a significant safety hazard. I consider Chrysler liable for not having stringent enough requirments to prohibit this from happening. Just think $ 550 to fix this, replace headlight assembly is obsurd when the manufacture didn't do their homework!!.
I'm having a problem right now concerning the van's ignition or fuel component. Since June, 2003 the engine will all of the suddent die or the compression goes down to a minimum that will allow the engine to only run; this has happened four times. Then when I let the engine cool down for awhile, I can start it up and it will run ok for a while. Mechanics are telling me that they can't tell what the problem is until the problem shows itself; also they say it could be some kind of ignition module of some sort. On two of the occasions, I was on a major freeway with my three kids in tow and we were stranded in the car pool lane. If you have any ideas of what the problem could be please let me know. Also, my windshield wipers go on at any time on their own and my paint peels in the back top of the van adjacent to the back hatch.
A/c evaporater no good. They replaced them up to 1997. Rear latch has been replaced twice & it does not work again. Hole rusting from the inside out just behind driver sliding door.
1999 Plymouth grand Voyager I bought it on 11-16-01, it had 32739. 5/03 it started to squeal under the hood then I was driving and the belt broke so I had it towed. They replaced the belt. Then about 1 1/2 weeks later the same thing happened so I took it to the bill walsh in streator illinois where I purchased it and they put a new belt on. Around 5/10 I started hearing the squealing so they checked the pullies and replaced the belt. The squealing stopped and about 3 weeks later again the squealing started. The same thing as last time, they replaced the belt squealing stopped. It starts squealing again. So instead of bringing it back for another repeat(big mistake) I drove it with the squealing until 2/10/04 when I heard a big clunking sound under the hood and it was half the belt breaking. It wore through so they replaced belts again and charged me $140. 86. The clunking started so I called them and they couldn't get the van in for 2 days so I had to miss more days off work because they said they didn't have a vehicle for me to drive. So again they checked everything and said the power steering pulley pump was crooked on the bracket so they adjusted it and put another belt on. Well I was still calm and on 3/11/04 again I was on my way to work and I heard the thumping under the hood so after what happened last time I turned around and went straight to the dealer and nicely asked them to get a car so I could get to work. They did lend me one and they changed the belt again this time they changed the belt tensioner and they tried to make me pay for the tensioner saying they would split the cost with me. I pay for the tensioner, they pay for labor & belt and so I told them no, he said he would talk to his boss when he did call me back he said they would pay the bill under goodwill for customer satisfaction. My van has only 68056 miles on it and its VIN # is 2p4gp2433xr108148.
I was changing my front driver's side tire in my driveway using the jack supplied with my 1998 Plymouth Voyager. I had just removed the tire when the "jack screw" snapped in half. The van fell towards me, hitting me and knocking me backwards onto the pavement. The force of the impact caused me to break a molar in half requiring a cap to repair it. Since then I have also experienced occasional blurred vision. I contacted daimler Chrysler corp. Via their internet site on 02/10/03. I did not ever speak to a csr until 02/18/03. I was told that Chrysler had reviewed my complaint and determined that the injuries were not a direct result of the defective jack and refused to assist me with my dental bills. Further more they said my car was out of warranty, so they could not even replace my jack. I am an engineer by profession and thought they might want to analyze the failure, but I was told that since they have never heard of this happening before, they did not feel that it was a major issue. I was lucky that my injuries only involved a tooth and blurred vision. The next time somebody might be crushed.
Numerous repairs on this vehicle in the last year. We have had to replace the air conditioner and have repaired at least a half dozen leaks caused by failing seals. We have paid approximately $4500. In repairs in the last 9 months alone and now there is another oil leak. This vehicle has been well taken care of. We were planning to keep this vehicle for at least another year but cannot afford these repairs. Help!! we may as well have a car payment. Any suggestions, besides Toyota or Honda??.
Lower control arms of my 2000 plymonth grand voyenger se minivan.
Tensioner freezes up and has to be replaced. This has happened twice in one year. Each of the two different dealers charged me different amounts, one charged 106. 00 and the other charged 275. 00. I have been told this can be very dangerous by the dealer and needs to be fixed. I wonder why then if it is so dangerous and so many people are having the same problem it has not been recalled.
This auto has a numerous/expensive repairs, we have not been notified of recalls for this car. Help what do we do? dt.
The airbag light on the instrument panel stays lighted additionally the horn does not work. This is, in my opinion a serious safety issue and should be corrected by Chrysler. I have read several incidents of this same issue reported on various web sites of these failures so this is not an isolated case and should be regarded as a serious safety issue. Dt.

There seems to be more than 120,000 or more going bad. Maybe a recall is in order. Whats acceptable 1, 2 , 5 or 10 percent? mr.
While traveling on the highway he press down on the horn and it wasn't operable. Please provide additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
It is June of 2003 and the car is currently in the shop again for the transmission problem. It has had a power steering pump failure, serpentine belt failure times 5 and now a computer problem. I have contacted chrystler corp at least 5 times regarding the problems with this car. Their answer is well, if you don't like the care trade it in.

While driving 65 mph vehicle suddenly downshifted a couple of gears, went from 65 to 35 in a matter of moments. Vehicle experiences a loud thump in the engine compartment, dealer has not been able to correct problem. Malfunctioning electric door locks. Malfunctioning electric windows. Incorectly shifting transmision. Keyless entry failure. Dash gauges fail. Poor gas mileage. Wind whistling through failed window seal.
Dahsboard has cracked.
Cup holder located in front of control panel defroster; fluid leaked into panel & short circuit unit. Vehicle warranty didn't cover damage at the time because dealers felt it was consumers fault. Consumer states the rear window and front window defrost are inoperable now.
The engine locked up on me while driving. The oil pressure light came on and before I had the chance to pull over the engine locked up. According to the owner's manual the warning light will come on for 4 minutes then go off. My engine locked up before the warning signal went off indicating that I had less than 4 minutes to respond. Daimler Chrysler has agreed to pay one half of the repairs costs, however, I feel that the oil screen in the oil pan became clogged as a result of mechanical failure. I have maintained my vehicle according to the owners manual. I feel that this engine design is defective and would like for daimler Chrysler to stand behind thier product by completely paying for the new engine that I had to have. I firmly believe that a 1997 Plymouth Voyager with only 53,865 miles should not need a new engine, when the van has been properly driven and maintained.
Transmission would not shift gears, vehicle was losing power, and check engine light was coming on. Consumer has been to dealer 3 times.
My engine has had several problems, and every time they "fix" it, something else happens. It is still sputtering and the check engine light came on again even after I spent 650. 00 to have it fixed a few weeks ago. Now, yesterday they did yet another fuel system recall, and today (4/15/00) the check engine light came on and it is sputtering again. I am sick of sinking money into this van and it is not even paid for. Also, the number of fuel system and engine recalls they have had is dangerous. Most of their recalls have had to do with the possibility of the van catching fire. I hate to think about what could happen to my children while riding in this vehicle. They need desperately to put out a recall on the head gasket leaking oil. I had to have a $1,000. 00 head gasket job at 60,000. That is ridiculous. I think it was due to improper repair of the oil galley plug recall, but they say that is not related, even though in the recall notice it states that "engine cylinder head oil galley plug does not seal properly and engine cylinder head oil is not adequately retained. Inadequate sealing and retention of the plug can result in oil leakage. . . " how can they say my van leaking oil from the cylinder head was not related? please respond. I need some help on this matter.
Engine check light comes on due to bad vibration, won't shift into gear, like it's running out of gas. The dealer replaced the oxygen sensor as a possible cause but it wasn't. Then, fuel filter was replaced but it wasn't again. Finally, the #3 spark plug wire was replaced and the problem was solved.
Engine check light comes on when driving long distances. Fan belt has broken more than 5 times.
Engine light stays on, airbag light stays on, horn and cruise control inoperable. Suspect defective clockspring est cost to repair $250-400.
