Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 1997 Porsche Boxster

Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Porsche Boxster. The contact stated that that the vehicle gear failed to engage in park therefore, contact was unable to start the engine up. The contact had to shift the gear into neutral to be able to start the engine up. The gear indicator also advised that the gear was in reverse while it was in park. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The manufacturer advised that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 98v112000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000. Li.
