There are thousands of complaints/postings appearing on the internet, including fixes, (many of which may be equally dangerous) whereby the vehicle's central locking mechanism fails, making it impossible for passengers to egress through either door or window. The locking mechanism on the driver's side door has a cheap part that is known to commonly fail. When it does, neither the driver nor passenger door may be opened from either inside or outside of the vehicle. The central locking system is tied in with the door lock, and the windows may sometimes also fail when the lock mechanism fails. We had to remove a fuse from her car to reset the windows so we could extricate her. The internet is replete with unofficial fixes for this problem, frequently using home-made parts, and Porsche representatives commonly acknowledge the issue and charge a great deal to repair using the same flawed parts. In the event of a crash, both driver & passenger may be trapped with no possible means of egress, without disassembling the driver's side door, which would be impossible in an emergency. I am shocked and outraged that this condition has been allowed to go unaddressed for years, despite being so commonly known that there are literally hundreds of internet posts and videos telling owners how to temporarily fix their cars using either Porsche parts, or in many cases, home-made parts which would also be seriously dangerous. It is unbelievable that NHTSA has never acted on this issue to compel Porsche to make so many thousands of vehicles safe. Merely googling "Porsche Boxster lock problem" will produce literally hundreds of videos demonstrating the problem and several home-made fixes. The american driving public deserves better than this from NHTSA and Porsche. Please do something about this while I look for a replacement car for my 16 year old daughter, whom I pray will not ever be in an accident in this car and become trapped, causing her death!!!.

The door panels are warping and detaching from the door. I'm sure the airbags should be affected as well. I have contacted porche America but no one calls except customer service who keeps no records of previous calls.

March 5, 2019. (xxxx). (xxxx) 2003 Porsche Boxster 3. 2 engine with brand new michelin ultra-high-performance tires. On December 31, 2018 about 10:30 am, I was driving the car going east, about 80 to 100 miles per hour in the middle of three lanes. When I reached the top of the hill, the front end of the car wobble in the air, one side went up and then it came down: and then the other side went up and came down alternating for few seconds; and then the whole front end started to go up like it or taking off as an airplane. I applied the brakes lightly and it came down on the front right tire, then started to pulling me to the right immediately. I turned left to correct and the front tires lost traction and so the rear tires lost traction immediately. The car spun around twice and sideswiped against the curb on the passenger side and the front ended up facing eastwardly, just the same way as I was heading. I was the only one in the car. The left side door airbag opened up. My left arm and side of my body got all bruised up and sore for several weeks, because of the car and airbag impact. The rear passenger tire went over the curb and did not have any damage. The front passenger tire went barely over the curb and the lower arm broke. The driver front wheel did not go over the curb and upon the impact broke my steering arm and the rim outer side on around the rim broke at different places. The driver rear tire never made it over the curb. It impacted the curb so hard the whole wheel came off and laid on the ground facing down; the rim was badly bent and one spoke broken. The half shaft came completely out and was laying down on the ground and all the other mechanical components were broken and all the oil leaked out. This is a midsection rear wheel car. It means that most of the weight is in the rear.

I rented a 2013 Porsche boxter conv. They droped it off to me at store, due to my car being towed away from being hit. Was quickly shown the outside to verify no body or wheel damage' few days later, driving rental, I pull up behind a pick up truck on the coldwater cyn in los angeles, (one way, each direction} traffic came to a standstill, and then my engine shut off, tachometer went to zero. Odd, and as I was reaching for key to restart, I gently put my foot on the accelorater, and wow, car comes alive and lurches into truck in front of me. Now damage to car can be repaired, but if I had been at a crosswalk when this happended, I could have killed or seriously injured pedestrian. \ dealer latetr tellls me car has option of auto stop. \ should be required of rental car companies to inform renter of this feature so as not to have accidents.

On the 2013 Boxster the tailpipe can burn your leg if you're not carefully when you go to open the rear trunk. It my view that the tailpipe extend to long from the bumper of the car and therefore, when someone goes to open the trunk your leg will touch the tailpipe. My wife was burn on her leg from the tailpipe. I made a complaint to north America Porsche. I got the feeling from the senior rep that it happen and so what. I someone can take look at this issue and see if something can be done about this.
We own a 2002 Porsche Boxster with approximately 66,000 miles. We purchased the vehicle, used, in late 2003. On three separate occasions we have experienced total loss of use of the vehicle due to water leaking into the interior compartment and flooding the control unit, rendering the car totally inoperable. The incidents have taken place in October, 2004 at 33,000 miles, April, 2008 at 61,000 miles, and currently in February, 2010. The repair has initialed replacing the control unit and having to pull out the carpet so as to inhibit mold growth. The first incident was repaired under the vehicle's warranty, the second time was repaired at our expense of approx. $1,600. The estimate for this current repair is $1,500. We believe this poses a severe safety risk because the first incident took place while the car was in use. We were driving up a hill. Suddenly the vehicle became inoperable and we had to maneuver the car using the handbrake, to reverse down the hill. The car had to be towed to the dealer. We have investigated the problem on the internet and found that this is a common problem with certain Porsche's vehicles. There is a defect in the vehicle and/or the restrictive filters that cause them to become clogged with debris and cause the water leakage. In addition to this problem recurring domestically, we note that the NHTSA, was informed via frcl-09f028-2453 dated April 5, 2009 of a similar problem in non-u. S. Markets. We would appreciate your investigating this defect.
