The contact owns a 2004 Porsche Cayenne s equipped with hankook tires, size: 275/40r20. The contact stated that the treadwall separated on all four of the tires. The tires were inspected but were not diagnosed. The tires had not been replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 129,000. The tire failure mileage was unknown.
- the contact stated that while driving the 2004 Porsche Cayenne at 35 mph the vehicle in front of her stopped abruptly and she rear ended the vehicle. The driver's side air bag did not deploy. The contact sustained chest and neck injuries , bumps and bruises, and was transported to a hospital. Tischer Porsche requested that the contact take the vehicle to collision works, inc to investigate why the air bag did not deploy. Tischer Porsche towed the vehicle to jeff at collision works, who determined that the driver's side air bag did not deploy because she was using the set belt. The passenger side did deploy because there was no seat belt in use. Updated 2/22/2007 - prior to this accident at 4085 miles the vehicle's air bag light illuminated. The dealer installed spec order air bag and resoldered connection for side air bag. The consumer heard excessive noise while braking. The dealer replaced the brake pads. The steering wheel vibrated at highway speeds. The dealer recommended replacing the tires because they were chopped.
The consumer's 2004 Porsche Cayenne was uncontrollable with the slightest snowfall. When the consumer approached an intersection he was unable to stop and consequently he hit another vehicle. The manufacturer has acknowledged there is a problem with the tires. The consumer also stated the abs was erratic.
There was vibration that affected the steering column, and it was felt through out the steering wheel. One could feel vibration when the vehicle only had forty-two miles on it. One could hear a noise when making a right or left hand turns. This vehicle was purchased on August 28, 2004, and was at the dealership on August 31, 2004. The dealer balanced the tires. On September 27, 2004 it was back at the dealer for vibration, and the dealer said the tires were worn out. They attempted to fix the vehicle six different times. They removed and replaced the steering column, and put on new tires and wheels. But still was having this problem. Consumer is a private investigator for the state of California, and he wanted to add that during an arbitration hearing Porsche was upset with the mentioning of NHTSA.
After 7500 miles, tires are bald. Porsche representative claims this as a normal wear and tear. Other independent/liscensed mechanics all concur that the tires are bald at 7500 miles. After several attempts to rectify with pcna, regional rep and service department state that bald tires at 7500 miles are normal. The tires have always been properly inflated, and never driven off road.
