Five problems related to air bag have been reported for the 1999 SAAB 9-3. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Today, shortly after starting the car, an airbag deployed. The car was parked in my driveway and not in motion, and there was no impact. The airbag deployed from the outboard side of the passenger seat. I was seated in the driver's seat. The passenger seat was unoccupied and its seat belt was unfastened, however a laptop and some other lightweight objects were in the passenger seat.
I was traveling along on the interstate and all of a sudden the side curtain driver airbag deployed for no reason. It nearly caused me to wreck from the loud pop which blurred my vision as well.
Tl-the contact owns a 1999 SAAB 9-3. The contact stated that while backing out of the driveway the drivers side seat air bag deployed without warning. The contact also stated that the drivers side seat belt had fractured as a result of the air bag deploying. The contact stated that she sustained burns on her left arm and did not seek medical attention. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000. Sw.
Got into my car, turned on the ignition and then the passenger airbag deployed and cracked the windshield. The car was parked, the airbag just went off for no reason.
The air bag alarm is "on" in the car, for no apparent reason. This is the third time it will be in the shop for repair of this defect within the last 15 months! apparently, there is a problem with the driver's seat?? since there is no way to determine if the airbags will work while the light is "on", and since this is a recurring problem with a safety feature, it could be a serious problem. After all, the car is still drivable while the light is on.
