7 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 06/19/2015

This is a serious issue known to NHTSA and gm under pe 08051. It needs to be addressed and a recall issued. Backing out of garage I heard a pop from right front area of car when put in reverse. Drove about 200 feet before I smelled burning rubber. Car became very difficult to steer. I had car towed to independent service garage. It is determined that the right front spring broke and became entangled in front suspension, steering and tire. Had I been going at a speed greater than 20 miles per hour I would have not been able to steer the car to a safe stop. Both gm and NHTSA know of the breaking front spring in salted road areas including missouri. This vehicle has only 55000 miles and is stored in a garage at home and work. Please put out a recall issue immediately, this is a very serious issue. Also a front seat belt recall went out last summer. I have contacted the manufacturer several times, the replacement seat belt is always several month out. Mine has become knotted and does not lay flat across my body but is more like a rolled rope. Gm needs to address this issue and get the parts out ASAP as well. Again gm needs to recall the known issue on the front springs on 2003 - 2006 SAAB 9-3's and fulfill their current recall on the damaged recalled seat belt.

8 Suspension problem of the 2007 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 03/19/2015

Well known problem with SAAB - suspension springs breaking. They warranty it for '03 to '06 cars only. Mine is an '07. My front right spring broke. Dealers say they see a ton of them in '07's and see the posts online from '07 owners with broken springs. SAAB/gm needs to get behind this and do the right thing.

10 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I took my vehicle in for a blower motor malfunction and a brake job to my regular mechanic who works on all my vehicles. While they had the vehicle up on the lift, he noticed that the right front spring had broken and gouged the tire leaving the tire damaged and the car inoperable. When they called the dealership to order a new spring from SAAB, the parts department said that b/c of mileage and age it would be covered under a service bulletin. Yeah! so, I called dealership and inquired about having the vehicle towed (100 miles) and the SAAB dealership do the work. Mileage on 9-3, 94,484 good! 6 months past the "time" limit! bad! needless to say, after $700 later I have replaced both front springs as well as the $175 damaged tire. The spring could have caused serious damage to the car, occupants as well as others if I was driving while the damaged tire gave out, due to the spring breaking! the vehicle drove perfectly & I was not aware of the broken spring! this is not my only vehicle and I honestly feel that SAAB should honor the mileage before the "time" b/c the amount of the vehicle being driven is what seems to be the cause of the failure of the springs.

11 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

The left front strut spring snapped and the right front strut spring is moving (circular back and forth motion).

12 Suspension problem of the 2003 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

Driving down street at 30 mph. Left side front spring broke. Spring stuck out and shredded tire. Left side of car dropped, which then caused right side spring to come off and cut right side tire. Had to replace both front spring / strut assemblies, and replace 2 tires. Researched problem, found that gm manufactured these cars in 2003 - 2006 and was offering a warranty to fix this problem. My SAAB is several months past the warranty dates but not the mileage limit. However, my understanding is that the original parts were faulty or defective. Very dangerous, as if car were traveling faster it could have been a serious accident. I would hope gm would correct or pay for a true safety issue.

13 Suspension problem of the 2008 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Front driver side spring broke while driving. Loud bang and sudden drop in ride height. Some loss of steering control. This is a recalled issue up to 2006, it should be extended to cover 2008 models. This is a serious safety risk.

15 Suspension problem of the 2008 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

SAAB 9-3s have well documented issue with the front strut springs breaking due to corrosion caused by road grit and particulate scraping away anti-corrosion paint. Gm owned 100% of SAAB from 2000 through 2010. Gm offered to cover cost of repairs for model years 2003-2006, but has declined to cover costs for 2007 and beyond. My 2008 9-3 has the faulty springs, and one of them just broke. Repairs costs are substantial ($700-$1500) and the issue presents a potentially significant safety issue as well.

16 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

Heard strange noises in front end while turning. Had mechanic check it out and found right front spring broken. I understand there is a recall. Concerned with how to get this handled before it breaks entirely and causes an accident.

17 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

Front right tire started smoking, followed quickly by blowout. After removing tire, discovered the spring part of the suspension had fractured into 2 pieces, one piece loose and unattached, the other still intact with the car. The piece still attached to the car was out of place and in the way of the tire which caused it to rub up against the tire and caused it to blow out after cutting through the entire circumference of the tire.

21 Suspension problem of the 2005 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

While backing out of my driveway, I heard a loud noise that sounded like a spring. After taking the car to the dealer, I was informed that the passenger strut spring required replacement. Several hours later, I was informed that the part was only available from SAAB in sweden and the eta was unknown due to SAAB bankruptcy status. A day later the dealer was able to locate a used part with a 30-day warranty but I was responsible for all repair costs. Fortunately, no damage was done to my tires, as I had just replaced the set only two weeks prior. Also, I appreciate the dealer telling me of the risk in continuing to drive the car with the broken spring. They also provided a loaner car for the period of the repair. Still, if this is a known defect for this model and year, the repair cost should have been covered and/or consumers should have received some type of notification of the potential problem.

22 Suspension problem of the 2005 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

To whom this may be concerned: I just called SAAB corp and my local SAAB dealer, and they're acting like it's no big deal???? I think it's a very big deal and according to my personal non-SAAB mechanic, this could have been a life-threatening ordeal if the coil-spring would have broke at a higher speeds. . . It's just plain wrong that SAAB-corp is not making a bigger deal about this issue??? why??? any and all info will be appreciated. Also I'm thinking about reporting this to my our local congressman and state senator?? thank you and safe-driving:: sincerely, ernest j. Culp - national sales director national chemicals, inc. 24 Suspension problem of the 2004 SAAB 9-3

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

In Feb 2010 I received a letter from SAAB saying that the front springs of my car could fail due to corrosion. They said could cause the height of the vehicle to decrease by an inch or two. What they neglected to say was that the broken spring can hit the tire and cause the tire to fail, which is what has happened to me and may other SAAB owners. Their letter should have mentioned this since tire failure caused my car to break down in the middle of a busy road which had no shoulder and I had no warning that this could happen.
