SAAB 9-7x owners have reported 21 problems related to headlights (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of SAAB 9-7x based on all problems reported for the 9-7x.
One headlight goes out while driving. It can be drivers side or passenger side as it is not specific to one side or the other. Both headlights went out at the same time during a night drive. By turning the lights off and back on, they will usually come back on. There seems to be no pattern other than they just turn off. SAAB stated that there were no recalls for my vehicles lighting.

There is a recall for certain 2008 97x models, recall number 15v519000. The headlights come on when driving, but then flicker and go out, causing a huge safety issue . This is happening to my car, but SAAB tells me my VIN is not included. The recall should be extended to include all 2008 97x model. At this time, some owners are getting it fixed for free and others, like me will have to pay for it.

Filed a complaint about this issue before (03/2015) and having the same problem, headlights flicker and sometimes go complete off while driving on highways and city streets. I received a recall notice when this issue was first known, after that I did not receive any other paperwork concerning this issue. The SAAB north America office and the local dealer keep on telling me that me vehicle does not have the hid headlights (this is stamped on the headlight housing and when I searched the VIN it does show it was installed on this model). I have tried to change the headlight drivers module (hdm) but still the same problem, thought maybe because I purchased an oem product it could be also be bad. Purchased an aftermarket hdm and still the same, I do not know where to go with this, I was employed by dod as a fleet manager so I am not stupid when it comes to a vehicle with issues. Think that gm is just trying to get over and do not want to accept it is a problem with the electrical system.

The contact owns a 2008 SAAB 9-7x. After starting the vehicle, the headlights failed to function when activated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the lamp control relay fuse was replaced on two separate occasions. In addition, there was damage to the fuse box and the head lamp driver module melted. There were no flames present. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v755000 (exterior lighting); however, the vehicle had not been serviced due to the remedy being under development. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
As I was driving my low beam headlights will turn off. They will not reset or come back on. Fog lamps and high beams work fine. I have seen recalls for this issue in the 2006 model. But it seems as if the 2005 model has the same concern.

The contact owns a 2006 SAAB 9-7x. While driving at various speeds, the passenger side air bag inadvertantly deployed without warning. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the air bag was repaired; however, the diagnosis was unavailable. On another occasion, the headlights failed to operate intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical system failed and the fuse and head lamps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact also stated that the front driver side door failed to unlatch, causing the contact to be locked outside the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed, but the latch was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000. The VIN was not available.
As my daughter was driving in elon north carolina, both headlights failed. She was able to get the high beams to work. She took the car the following day to a garage. They confirmed the lights worked intermittently. Meaning - they would turn off for no reason. We called SAAB, at the 800 number to be told that we had xenon lamps so it was not a recall item. I explained the issue was identical to what had been reported on other models. The reply = gm had not told us we have to recall those yet. She gave me the name of a dealer 30 minutes away and told me we were responsible for the charges. Ok that is fine- but I have a hard time believing this is not related to the recall. Read the posts on the internet - it is all over it for the same issue. Something is wrong and someone is going to die because of it. My daughter was lucky. Please look into the lighting issues in all of the 9-7x. Thank you.

While driving at night the headlights were set on automatic mode when all of a sudden they went out and I tried to turn them to the regular on position and they did not come on, the high beams did not work either. This has happened on several occasions and from what I read on line I'm not the only one that has this issue. I believe the recall should include my 2005 model as well. Other electrical issues! (instrument panel-gages) most tacked out, also speedometer gage issues (gets stuck at one speed and when yu slow down it doesn't go back down but if you get back up to speed it will continue to climb showing a false speed of 95-mph but actually only going about 55-mph.
A headlight recall exists for this model but my VIN number does not confirm. My headlights are failing while driving at night. There seems to be an issue with the VIN on this vehicle.
Similiar to NHTSA id number: 10667221 event , where the headlights blinked out. In my situation, I was able to turn them off, and then back on. This happened multiple times, but stopped for the winter. It ha returned. I can not go a mile without the lights going out. . . . I also looked at the net and discovered the recall for 2006, but not 2005. . . . . I also agree this recall should include 2005 my.

While driving at night the headlights were set on automatic mode when all of a sudden they went out and I tried to turn them to the regular on position and they did not come on either so I turn on the high beams to make it home that was pretty scary since the it has being doing it intermittent every time so I can't drive at night for the fear of getting pulled over or wrecking I don't know what else to do I did go on the internet and read where there is a recall about the SAAB. 97x 2006-2008 I think the recall should be on the 2005 model also I would appreciate your help in this matter.
Takata recall the headlights will not stay on one go out to the other go out and they come back on then they go out again all through while I'm driving headlights will not stay on come on and off.
While driving home our headlights flickered and turned off. I was able to pull over and restart the vehicle and the headlights came back on. Once driving again, they flickered and the passenger side headlight went out. I was able to drive the vehicle home with the one light (luckily). When I went to replace the headlight, it was back on again. I checked all connections and was unable to find the cause. A couple of weeks later the stabila-trac system light and air bag light came on and went off (5 min period). A couple of days later the steering locked up and would jump, we brought it to the SAAB dealer and they had to replace the awd actuator needed to be replaced ($788). We replaced it and the steering and awd system appeared to work fine. Two days later the airbag light and stabila-trac system light came on again and went off. Dealer was unable to pull up the codes (not logging codes?). A month later while driving, the windshield wipers would come on and turn off on their own and when their on the washer sprayers for the headlights and windshield turn on on their own. This vehicle has major safety issues due to electrical issues and should be investigated. This vehicle has become unsafe and untrustworthy.
Headlights flickered and I thought they were going to go completely off but they did not. Checked the internet and with dealer for this incident and was told this was a normal occurrence with this vehicle. Since then, the vehicle now has 145,746 miles and there are more instances of these happenings. Also have a problem with the electrical system due to interference coming through the stereo system and creates a humming/buzzing sound coming from the back speakers. Had a certified SAAB technician troubleshoot this problem and found a problem with the ground system (electrical) in the rear speakers/equalizer. I am presuming that this may have something to do with the whole electrical system (to include the headlights, equalizers, speakers) of this vehicle. Just had a recall taken care of to replace the front drivers door power window module.
Headlight low beam (h11) wiring harness was melted SAAB 9-7x 2005 4. 2l.
The contact owns a 2009 SAAB 9-7x. The contact stated that right headlight was brighter than the left one, when the headlights were on, the right headlight would point downward, making it difficult for other drivers to see the vehicle and for the contact to see oncoming vehicles. Furthermore, when the high beams were illuminated, the light would move too far up in the air making it hard for the contact to see. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who attempted to adjust the light and change the light bulbs but the failure was not corrected. The dealer also referenced other models from the same year but did not find similar failures. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 15. The current mileage was approximately 5,500.
