2006 SAAB 9-when fuel tank is filled with gas, the fuel gauge in the intrument panel reads empty and the check engine light illuminates. Will be uncertain as to how much fuel is in the tank. After approximately 100 miles, the gauge will swing between full and empty and may begin to function normally. However, there is no clear indication of the amount of fuel in the tank. The local SAAB dealership indicated the cause is a faulty fuel level sensor and is common with this year/model vehicle. Only recourse is to utilize the odometer and refill every 250 miles travelled.

Less than 100 miles after the manufacturer warranty ended, after filling the gas tank, the gauge dropped to "empty" and the gas light came on. After driving for several miles the gauge started fluctuating between full and empty, and seemed to be accurate after a while. This continued for a few weeks, but eventually stopped fluctuating and now always shows empty, regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank.
