3 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 04/24/2006

The check engine came on recently and I took my 1999 SAAB 9-5 to the dealer. After several attempts to correct the problem , it was found to be a crack in the fuel tank. The car was stored outside with little gas in the tank while waiting for SAAB to locate a new tank. It has taken over 5 weeks and SAAB claims no responsibility for the problem. My question have there been other reports of cracked fuel tanks made for SAAB cars from 1999 to 2005 which all use the same tank?.

4 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 03/14/2006

(1) due to a manufacturing defect in the design of the car, a hole has developed in the top of the plastic gas tank of 1999 SAAB 9-5 sedan. (2) a "smoke test" has revealed the hole in the top of the tank. The car has developed a gas evaporation leak. There are prominent gas fumes and smells in the car's cabin, and the check engine light has come on. (3) this is the second gas tank on the car, the first tank was replaced by a SAAB dealership after it failed to pressurize properly, a related issue.

5 Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 03/01/2006

We own a 2001 SAAB 9. 5 2. 3t. My wife is a commuter user of the car and car has very low mileage. Her gas tank has lost the coupling to the fuel tank twice and lost all the gas on the road. She was stranded both times. This is completely inexplicable and the dealership has never answered why this has happened. Due to safety concerns, we felt it appropriate to report. We will have to confirm the incident dates in our records.

6 Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 11/16/2005

The contact stated after a short drive there was a fuel smell. He looked under the vehicle and found a spot of fuel. He inspected the vehicle, and found there was a leak where the fuel pump comes out of the gas tank. The dealership has been contacted, but the problem has not been corrected at this time.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 09/02/2005

Leaking fuel tanks. I have replaced the fuel tank on this vehicle twice. The tank is now leaking again. The leaks cause the check engine light to come on (small evaporate leak code) and occasionally cause fuel vapors in the cabin. The tank is made of plastic, making it impossible to repair - must be replaced. Without replacement, vehicle will fail emissions testing and I fear fire hazard.

8 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 SAAB 95

Failure Date: 02/28/2000

Fuel tank is defective--fuel rushes to front of tank upon braking and thunks the entire vehicle. This stress on the fuel tank could pose a threat, such as a fuel explosion, in a crash. Problem exists when tank is 1/2 to 3/4 full. SAAB is aware of the problem, and states that it is caused by compliance with CA emissions standards. No other manufacturers have had such problems in complying with CA emissions. I have spoken by the internet with over 10 other SAAB 9-5 owners who all report the same problem. This is a design defect, not an individual complaint.

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 SAAB 95

The fuel tank makes a unbearable loud noise. The fuel is banging against the walls of the tank which could eventually rupture the tank or loosen the connecting components.

10 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 SAAB 95

Consumer stated the gas tank was 1/4 full, he then filled the tank, and shortly afterwards, he made a stop, and when he went to start the vehicle, the fuel gauge was reading emmpty, consumer then turned off the engine and restarted it, the indicator was still reading empty, as consumer drove the vehicle, the average fuel economy dropped from 32. 8 to 31. 9 mpg, at approximately 30 miles the dte feature restored and indicated 528 miles, at 64 miles the fuel gauge restored to service indicating full.

11 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 SAAB 95

I hear fuel sloshing/thunking sound when the tank is 1/2-3/4 full. I am not sure if this is a safety hazard, but it concerns me. The mfg. Has told me it is not a safety issue.
