general problems of the 2008 Saturn Aura - part 2

My vehicle began with service traction illumination a couple of years ago. Took it into the gm elk grove dealership and they informed me that I had a bad catalic converter and fuel injection cleaning needed. Items were replaced and service completed. Within a couple/few years, my service traction light came back on with the check engine light and car began to stall, same issues as before. Took it back to gm elk grove dealership and they stated my catalic coverter needed to be replaced, my fuel tank, my air mass flow sensor replaced along with intake shaft sensor and another sensor. I fixed all items. Today not even 6 months later, my service traction light is back on, check engine light, and engine power reduced while driving on freeway. Speed reduced as low as 45miles per hour and when you come to a complete stop, car shakes.

I was parked in my driveway and I had my foot on the brake, I noticed I could not see the brakes lights illuminating. I had my friend push the brake pedal and I got out and looked at the brake lights. All three brake lights are not illuminating when the pedal is pressed. If the car is running they still do not work, just the led's in the tail light assembly get brighter when the pedal is pressed. We have recently taken the Aura to the gm dealer for the bcm recall, they put in a spacer and added di-electric grease. It was functioning properly since the recall. On may 4th I realized the brake lights were no longer working. Also the power locks work intermittently on the car. Some days the locks work, other days they don't (very erratic).

The body control module recall repair was completed but now the rear lights do not illuminate when the headlights are on. Although the brake lights now work as intended, there are no other lights working on the rear of the vehicle.

My wife was driving to work on the highway. All of the sudden the check engine light came on. The car reduced engine power. A message came up on the display saying to service the traction control. I took the vehicle to a gm dealer. They said it was the throttle body position sensor. The exact same incident happened to an acquaintance the week before in her 2012 chevy malibu with the dealer determining the cause to also be the throttle body position sensor. The incident in my car almost caused my wife to be rear ended due to the dramatic speed change from going into limp mode all of the sudden at highway speed.

Was recalled for a electric power steering assist. Not even two months later the power steering system has completely failed. I cant even go a quarter mile down the road. It will drive a little down the road and power steering will flash on the dash and turns are almost impossible. I have to shut the vehicle off and turn it back on. This is very dangerous especially if there isn't a place to pull over without making a tun. I called gm and they told me I would have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed and they would not reimburse me for what it costs. I don't think this is right considering that this was the one thing that they were supposed to fix I cant afford to fix it. I have put over two grand in this car all within a year. Mind you this is my only car and I cant get another one. I think that gm should take some responsibility and fix this because this could cost someone their life if they aren't willing to take care of this issue.

After getting all the recalls on my car fixed I assumed it would stop the steering wheel of my car from moving by itself. Wrong. My steering wheel still moves by itself, happens when I'm stopped, parked, driving above 50 or below 20. The steering wheel itself feels jerky. Doesn't feel smooth or tight. I'm assuming because of the recall of the steering wheel module it somehow affected other parts of the steering but that's not a recall yet. I don't feel safe driving this car. I'm afraid to drive it especially on the highways. The problem of losing power steering might of been fixed but what about the steering shaking and moving by itself? there's other people with this problem, there's you tube videos of it. When will this be recalled? probably not until someone likes me crashes because of it.

While driving, the door locks engage and disengage repeatedly. Fuse continually blew. Had to pay for a body control module repair, only to have another bcm repair pursuant to a recall regarding the brake lights. Dealer said the repairs were distinct and would not refund for the door lock repair. Currently, the door locks still do not work as expcted, as the passenger side rear door does not respond to any electrical signal to open or close.

I was sitting at a red light when all of a sudden all my dashboard lights/radio etc. Went out (I always have them on) I actually thought the car died. (which it did not) I played around with the inside dimmer switch and the lights came back on and I drove off. But it got me thinking about the latest recall that I have on this car. Recall no. 13036. I actually spoke to someone at your place yesterday (reference no. 663360) since I was leary of driving a vehicle with a recall as such. I was given gm phone no. And upon speaking with them they still do not know when the part will become available and told me that they would not approve me for a loaner car. So if any of this recall should happen it certainly imposes the risk of a crash. I do much highway driving (everyday for work) so if I drive and my brakes do not come on I cannot imagine the impact at 65mph in a rear end collision. I am so nervous about driving this car. How can I get them to approve a loaner until the parts are available and I can actually get a appointment with dealership. Thank you for any input you can give me.

As I was driving to work after being in the car for no more than 15 minutes, my rear brake lamp went on while I was driving and would only shut off if I tapped on the brake pedal. Also my cruise control would not engage. This has continued to happen ever since. I feel this is a very serious safety hazard especially in traffic and the drivers behind me do not know when I am actually coming to a stop! ironically, we received a recall notice last week regarding this problem. I have contacted both a local dealer and gm directly and neither party can tell me when the repairs will be made as there are no parts available. I am feeling extremely frustrated and helpless. There is also a recall out there # 14118 for loss of power steering dated last month and still have heard nothing further on this issue.

My 2008 Saturn Aura, the brake lights would come on when I wasn't pressing the brakes, sometimes when I did press the brakes they wouldn't come on. Most people think I'm being silly when I tell them that. "well, how do you see them?" I work at night so most of my driving is done in the dark and I have pretty dark tinted windows, I could see the reflection plain as day. Even stopped and got out just to make sure. Couple days after I noticed the brake lights, I noticed to radio lights (radio buttons) were not working but when I rolled up the windows or adjusted the power seats they would flicker on and off super fast along with the dash board lights. My speakers when out soon after this. I called gm numerous times about these problems and there not willing to help at all. I'm sick to death by the thought that there just gonna get away with this. It's a problem that I think needs to be addressed very soon. I was driving to work last night and I noticed this burning smell kinda like burnt wires. . . All gm has to say about it is "I can help you find a local dealer but, we cannot pay for the charges. I don't have the money at the moment to fix it. It's like $200. 00 for the test alone! I've called gm eight times in the past three months and there doing nothing. I need help!.

My vehicle losses power steering at low speeds. When accelerating or at full speed, the steering is fine. I had my vehicle checked. The power steering fluid remains full. I have trouble getting in and out of parking spaces, the manual steering is very tough to use.

Vehicle is involved in gm safety recall #13036. The vehicle started, intermittently, displaying traction control and ecs tell-tail lights and not displaying brake lights when brakes applied. Approximately one month ago, the warning light indicators increased. For the last two weeks, the lights flash off and on continually and consistently every single day. In addition, the traction control off and ecs off tell-tail lights display consistently, as well. The lights are so consistent, I can only check my mileage when I turn off the engine. I am never sure if my brake lights are illuminating when I apply the brakes. The sound/notification informing driver when any warning is displayed, "door ajar, seat belts not fastened, trunk open, etc. ," and sound from the on star and front stereo speakers is at a level so low a person with excellent hearing can barely here it. It is a barley audible "scratchy" noise. I am self-employed and use my car a great deal. I am very scared to drive my car and have limited my driving almost entirely which has seriously affected my business. I worked very hard to become a successful small business owner, which, as a result of this recall, is quickly declining. I took my vehicle to ed bozarth Chevrolet and was told it could be months and months before the parts became available. To repair the vehicle. Are there any other alternatives you may be able to offer me? possibly a loaner vehicle? I do appreciate the fact gm stepped up and re-called the affected vehicles. Regarding recall 13036. Performed at ed bozarth Chevrolet in nevada on 9/2/2014. Vehicle is continuing to illuminate tell-tales "service traction, service esc, traction control off & esc off" approximately 96% of the time while driving. Lights will go off briefly when applying brakes but come back on after coming to a complete stop. As soon as the vehicle is started, the warning lights come on with audible warning as well. I returned to the dealer & they stated the recall was performed correctly. If it was, why are theses lights still coming on? prior to the recall, the lights came on, but in a different pattern. Currently, the lights go off when the vehicle is in reverse. Any assistance or advice would be much appreciated.

Update to complaint filed 08/04/2014; NHTSA id 10618873. Due to the fact I received a notice indicating my vehicle was involved in gm recall 13036 and my car is experiencing all of the problems as outlined in the recall, I took vehicle to a local dealer who informed me my vehicle was not included in the recall. The affected vehicles, according to the letter to you from ms. Nancy lewis of general motors dated may 28, 2014, 2008 Saturn vehicles manufactured from 04/24/2007 through 06/27/2008 are affected by this recall. My Saturn was manufactured in "08/07. " due to the fact the vehicle is experiencing every problem associated with the recall and it falls within the manufacture date, please outline, with specific information, why it not included in the recall. Thank you.

On 9/2/2014 I took car to ed bozarth Chevrolet to have service on recall 13036. My car was returned with no change in the problem; "service traction control, traction control off, service ecs & ecs off" tell-tales lights were still illuminating consistently. The invoice indicated they fixed the following under the recall; 1) a06396 adh promoter, 2) 13596990 (s) clip 3) 13596991 (s) retainer 4) 15188763 (s) retainer 5) 11509086 (s) strap and "108420 campaign 13036 performed bcm & bpps harness & connector repair. " the invoice indicated I declined service on "ses light and traction control diagnosis also shocks, struts, engine leak diagnosis, broken panel replacement 1064 c. " the best part was they told me I needed to have my oil changed, which I personally did 3 days prior to bringing the car in! they shattered the fuse compartment cover located inside the vehicle, tried to glue it back with a blue colored glue which did not work and then indicated on the invoice I declined having the broken panel replaced at a charge of $86. 00. All they wanted to do was sell me service which was not needed. I asked the service adviser if a blown or missing fuse could cause the tell-tales lights to illuminate and he said no. When I returned home yesterday, I looked at the fuse compartment and found one bad fuse and one missing fuse. After replacing them, the check engine light went off for the first time in over 3 months. I did still receive one "traction control service and one service ecs" light. I am going to return to dealer today to attempt to have them remedy the issues. A follow up complaint will be written in an effort to assist. Thank you.

Experiencing issues with the esc, transaction control sensors, and power locks. We have had the sensor in the gas pedal replaced without success. We are experiencing issues daily with our speed control, locks, and esc and traction sensors. Contacted gm and they stated our vehicle is not on the recall list due to it being manufactured in NY. We need to get this resolved ASAP as we have a newborn on the way.

I have had my car for about 1 year now and I have been having issues with it since I left the dealer ship. The car has begun to give me a traction control light, engine power reduced light, and check engine light. I was driving down the road trying to get to work when I came up to a hill. I started going up the hill as usual and the car all of sudden lost all power. It would not go above 45 miles per hour and was struggling to do even that. It took me about 10 minutes to get the hill where I shut my car off and waited about 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes I turned my car back on and it functioned as normal. If there is a problem going on in the car why would be cleared after 10 minutes of being off? this car needs to be recalled before someone doesn't see that the Aura in front of them in being forced by the computer to slow down. The break lights do not come on when this occurs. I had to shut my car off 3 times just to make it 5 miles where I could get it looked at. The power steering in my car is also whacked out. I will be driving down the road and it will start turning the wheel back and forth. I have seen this happen in older cars, it is usually caused by a bad u joint. In this particular case it is not. After this occurred I slowed down and pulled over on the side of the road and placed my car in park. The steering was still shaking back and forth rapidly. I have taken it to many dealers and asked if they could determine a cause. All of them have said the same thing, "I have never seen that happen before". I wish I would have looked into all of the reviews about this car before I bought it. There are hundreds of instances of this happen to Aura owners and I think it time gm pays for it!.

Brake lights come on when peddle is not pressed, also the cuts the cruise off without warning.

Passenger side door locks. First the front door lock actuator open circuit. At 50,079 miles Nov 2012. Now at 60,000 miles the rear passenger door lock actuator has failed. If manually unlocked it will not lock with the fob or power door switch. If locked it will not unlock.

There is some sort of short in the electrical system. The cruise control is randomly disabled, any the brake lights are functioning backwards. They are on when not pressing the brakes, then go off when pressing the brakes. A few miles down the road, and the my cruise works again and the brake lights go back to normal. A few more miles, and the issues return. This is definitely some sort of electrical short. I just hope it doesn't wind up in an electrical fire. There are several reports of the same issue. Right rear lock stopped working, replaced it, then left rear stopped working, now drivers door locking part time, so that will soon stop. On 5/25/14 when driving on highway entire instrument panel stopped working. After key was turned off and removed it reset. Thank you.

Noticed that the brake lights stay illuminated all the time regardless of brake pedal position.

I pulled over on the expressway to investigate my tmps coming on for no reason, once checked and found no issues, I attempted to merge back on the expressway, but the speedometer shot to 70 mph and was stuck as well as the rest of my gauges, they all showed faulty readings, and the issue was not self correcting after starting and shutting off the vehicle repeatedly. The only way to fix the issue was to pull the fuse controlling the instrument cluster, this has been a recurring issue happening when it is raining or the humidity is high.

First, let me start by saying that I traded-in for my 2008 Saturn Aura in April 2011. Since that time, I have had continuous problems with the car. Today, my car is in the shop to fix the brake lights, cruise control, and traction/esc. Brake lights: on my way home Friday, a concerned citizen had me role down my window en route to tell me that my brake lights stay on the entire time I am driving. After this warning, I did some investigation - sure enough, the lights engage when the brake is not being pushed. Worse yet, the brake lights go off when the brake is pushed. Thank goodness for the person who alerted me to this. Truthfully, I am lucky that I did not get rear-ended or get a ticket. I truly hope the brake light issue is recalled because it is very dangerous. Cruise control: my cruise control does not work all the time. Sometimes it works; sometimes it engages then randomly disengages; sometimes it just plain does engage at all. I can live without cruise control; however, I really don't think this should be happening, as the vehicle is not that old and is very well maintained. Traction/esc: occasionally, my dash will display a warning that says "service traction, service esc, esc off. " it doesn't do this everyday. It just displays the warning at random times - I cannot distinguish a pattern. Overall, I am very displeased with how this vehicle functions. Not only does it cost me money to fix, it takes time out of my day - I get paid hourly at my job. My main concern is the brakes lights, as someone could get seriously hurt, and the problem is very difficult to detect unless another motorist warns you or you do night driving (which I do not). Was driving on freeway with cruise control on then suddenly the cruise control disengaged. When I looked in the rear view mirror I noticed that my 3rd brake light was coming on by itself and staying on and I was not pressing brake. Brakes come on and stay on when not pressing brake pedal and turn off when brake pedal is pressed. Makes other cars behind me think I'm braking when I'm not and when I do brake it looks as if I'm not braking. Risk getting rear ended because of this. Safety issue.

We have not been able to get our recalls repaired. We have only been able to get the brake sensor repaired. We are still having issues with the esc sensors, speed control and power locks freaking out whenever they want. Every time we call the dealership we are being told that the parts are not available. This issue is getting worse and need to be corrected ASAP.

Rear door lock unlock mechanism malfunction. Locks but won't unlock and will not open from the inside. In the event of an emergency someone can get stuck inside the car because the door wont open. And no, the child safety lock is not engaged.

First was door locks kept locking by itself resulting in dead battery. 2nd was traction light coming on at a stop light. 3rd was car alarm goes off when its not set. Most recently esc active came on during light acceleration merging into traffic car would not get up to speed very nearly causing being rear ended by a semi. This happened 3 times luckily no one was killed. 5th the radio turns volume down by itself and you can hear computer or something electrical in dash. Dealer says no codes present. There may not be a code but all this is happening. Please help before someone is hurt or killed.

I was driving on the highway with my cruise engaged. When all of a sudden, my cruise turned off. I look in my rear view mirror and I saw my third brake lights on. That's when I found out that my back brake lights come on randomly when I drive. When I use my brake pedals than my brake lights turn off. And when I accelerate, my brake lights turn on. I need some help. I have a 6months old in the car and I feel this could get us into an accident.

The dealer stated that all four door actuators and the two front door locks needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
